A journey through the Universe accompained by the notes of one of the most amazing David Gilmour' solos...
My new astronomy animation, I hope you like it...
Credits: hubblesite.org/
"Marooned" is an instrumental track on Pink Floyd's 1994 album, The Division Bell; the track won a Grammy Award in 1995.
The piece was written by David Gilmour and Richard Wright. It has sounds that describe the setting as an island (such as seagulls and waves crashing on the shore). It was composed while jamming aboard the Astoria in early 1993. The high-pitch guitar sounds on the track came from a Whammy pedal which makes the guitar sound an octave higher, also known as a pitch shifter. Also in the background can be heard the wailing guitar effects from the original recording of the Pink Floyd song "Echoes," which were redubbed onto this song by Gilmour for increased textural effect.
David Gilmour has mentioned that "pretty much" all of "Marooned" is improvised and that he "probably took three or four passes at it and took the best bits out of each".
The track was given a Grammy Award in the category of Best Rock Instrumental Performance at the Grammy Awards of 1995.
This song has only been played live three times: On the two dates in Oslo, Norway (one of which is featured on the Pulse DVD) on the 1994 "The Division Bell" tour and at the "The Strat Pack" charity concert, for the 50th anniversary of the Fender Stratocaster guitar, where Gilmour played his "#0001" Stratocaster.
An excerpt of the music is featured on Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd.

Marooned is a song that reminds us that even in times of loneliness and depression, the infinite peace and bliss of the cosmos is within us and surrounding us and thus we are a part of the whole rather than being alone and marooned on the island of our own selves and our own consciousness.

This song will forever remind me of September 2022. My mother, my father and my younger brother. We are in Pineda de Mar, small town near Barcelona. Listening to this masterpiece, the guitar riffs, my family is laughing, swimming in the still-warm mediterranean sea, having a well-deserved vacation, stress-free. I am lying on my towel on the shore. I feel the sand beneath me & the autumn sun above. I feel safe, careless, free, loved, appreciative of the moment. Thank you Pink Floyd

This song represents the end of an era, the closing of a chapter in our lives. Never again will we experience this level of beauty in music. The world has changed, and we must move on, whether we want to or not. Thank you David and Richard for this masterpiece. Whatever the future holds, I will always cherish this composition, and all the beautiful music that went before.

I've always thought the same, the Division Bell was ultimately the last Pink Floyd album, and this song and High Hopes definitely capture that essence of finality. It's like we've left our mark on music history, but all things must come to an end, it truly is bitter sweet.

This song gives me goose bumps. Pink Floyd is my all time favorite band of all time. Their music transcends the physical world. It fills your soul, touches your true emotion. When I listen to them, I don’t feel so alone. I have struggled with self-imposed isolation from social anxiety, and let me tell you, when I listen to Pink Floyd, I feel most in touch with myself. I know every song by heart, and that goes for the instrumental pieces without words. Those I can play in my head like I’m actually listening to them. Pink Floyd has been and will forever be a deeply personal part of my life. When I die, I want them to play Pink Floyd at my funeral (don’t ask me which song I’d choose, because that’s just impossible to answer, I love them all). Btw, David Gilmour is my favorite member of PF. He is LITERALLY the most amazing, incredible guitarist that the world has ever been gifted with. I wish I could meet him somehow. I also think his voice when he talks is the most soothing sounding voice I’ve ever heard. If you haven’t heard him actually speak, look up the Pink Floyd documentary on Amazon prime (maybe KZbin has it too), and watch it. His voice sends shivers down my spine... and in other places as well 😉

Unicos e irrepetibles.

Pink Floyd's music will live forever! They are never old but are more concurrent with whatever is going on in the contemporary world! Thank you for sharing this one! Whoever is reading this, I know 2020 has been a very challenging for all of us, for some it's been more challenging than others .But, this will pass, this too shall pass. Stay focused on what you are doing and keep pushing forward. We have made together this far and we will get through this and anything that life will bring infront of us in any form of challenges. Sending positive vibes and love. Stay safe, take care and keep believing in yourself.

I’m 21 - i was listening to pink floyd ever since i was a little kid, this song will always be my favorite. No matter what i go through, good days, bad days - this timeless masterpiece is always there for me, it’s like the guitar is talking to you and that perspective changes as you age, i can’t comprehend how they made this but thank god they did, i’m eternally grateful to be able to listen to this.. love from 2021 and beyond

Pink Floyd is what my,32-36-and 37 yr old were brought up on! My x and I were rockers,I had no rhyme in the house, never was it played on our equip, now! I however was raised on radio, before FM in the AM days, and when I learned guitar it came from black/RnB I can promise if you raise your children on pink Floyd, there minds will develop with a peacefull, calm and deeper, non violent and above all( intelligent and poetic)Scenes.creative writing can develop as well, creative thinking, A world of magnets and miracles.

It sounds like someone was going through something rough in life in the band. The guitar is so melancholy. But it’s so beautiful. When I hear this song I imagine being strung out on heroin in a dark apartment with trash all around me, knowing I’m addicted to that shit. I’d feel like a loser and most my family would’ve probably been pushed away and gone. But that’s just something I imagine. It’s probably a total different scenario for Pink Floyd.

I remember finding this song in high school and I instantly fell in love with it and never forgot about it every since. I was in 12th grade 1st period. I was the teachers pet because it was the class my medication hit me and I would finish my work instantly. How naive I was. Little did I know I was slowly being poised over years by the thing I thought was helping me the most
