This is Syd at his rhythmic best. Listen to how the electric guitar matches up with the vocals--perfectly in time, but with the emphasis on different beats so as to give a slightly "off kilter" feeling.

Yep, and Syd may have already been suffering fom these mental problems, and with the use of constant LSD (this also happened to Brian Jones, at about the exact same time) his demons got the better of his sanity. He simply began to lose touch with what we call 'reality'. Drugs have different effects on everyone, some people have spiritual experiences and some spend a lifetime in hell, never able to really come back. It really depends on your mental stability, physical health, and souroundings.

The black and green scarecrow as everyone knows Stood with a bird on his hat and straw everywhere. He didn't care. He stood in a field where barley grows. His head did no thinking His arms didn't move except then the wind cut up Rough and mice ran around on the ground He stood in a field where barley grows. The black and green scarecrow is sadder than me But now he's resigned to his fate 'Cause life's not unkind - he doesn't mind. He stood in a field where barley grows.

@LunaticWalrus98 Focus your appreciation of them in the 1965-68 Barrett Era. Just a recommendation. As you listen to them over and over from those years, you will finally realise what a genius Barrett was. He invented everything about that band; you will always hear traces of Barrett in stuff Pink Floyd does much later on! It's a wonderful thing!

This such an evocative number. A pal gave me a vinyl single of this around 1971/2. We'd been living it up in that contemporary 'student' way, that night. When I got home, I put in on the turntable. I forgot to adjust the speed to 45rpm, so I heard it at 33rpm, for the first time. However, such was the reputation of the Floyd, and in all honesty, my own condition, that I didn't notice the fact. Now and again, I search it out and play it at 33rpm - risking my last remaining stylus (needle). If I'm lucky, I manage to drift off, back to a time when girls valued oneself rather than your clothes and your car.

You know your rock n' roll man;) After Syd died Rolling Stone wrote a huge article about him, his life as a recluse after pink floyd, how songs like 'wish you were here' were odes to him. Roger Waters said in many ways Syd was the lucky one, forced to retire so early he continued to collect royalties all those years while Pink Floyd kept touring and working their asses off. Syd enjoyed his English country retreat in peace until he died.
@hammer44head5 ай бұрын

Did Syd have a stroke way back in his 20's? Or a lack of oxygen to the brain or was it schizophrenia?Was his breakdown brought on by overdose of LSD? Did he have memories or know anything in his later years about past family or friends or his days of fame? Luckily his family cared for him and he wasn't institutionalized. They say that the members of PF gave him monetary proceeds from their albums. Is that true, if anyone knows? His early music is wistful and even childlike in parts.

@thinginground51793 жыл бұрын
they mean what he says, but theres a few songs that he hints about himself in like Vegetable Man, Jugband Blues was pretty much about himself being aware of his mental state and getting kicked out of the band.. Scream Thy Last Scream was basically a big "fuck you" from syd to the music industry because they didnt like his erratic song writing or something. and i just realised im 8 years late so whatever
