I've been going through an f(x) renaissance recently, and Rum Pum Pum's music video has made me realize how truly groundbreaking the Pink Tape album is in many aspects of concept work

I like the way you broke this down! F(x) is a group I don't go back to often enough, but Pink Tape is one of the more played albums in my Spotify. I've always wanted to own a physical copy because it's just so beautiful. I actually collect New Jeans albums for the same reason that I think Min Heejin is trying to top what she did for Pink Tape and just hasn't quite figured it that you can't beat the blueprint. imo fx was one of the BIGGEST trendsetters/most impactful groups of 2nd gen, in terms of the longevity of their trends/impact and its a shame i dont see more appreciation for them.

f(x) have always understood where they landed on the mainstream and experimental spectrum, hence why the rumpumpum mv is so standard compared to shadow and the actual song’s lyrical content - a pun on the korean word for love saranghae sounding like the korean word for wisdom teeth, and using that as a metaphor for one’s first heartbreak. I think the fact that the mv was so “basic” helped aid the song’s experimental nature as you one needs to be a little mainstream for success

If you think about it, Seulgi's debuts with 28 reason is all about the same. The promotion trailers, the whole photobook, the teasers, the album... Everything was crazy and conceptual. And then the mv came and it was just a huge deception.

i’d disagree, with seulgi it was still the same vibe with it staying grimy and moody. similar to the teasers, album cover, and all the way to the music video

i want kpop to to become this fun again!! ik it's a tired saying but kpop has felt like it's truly missing something special as of recent. I am only finding my self truly excited for a comeback if it's from a 3rd gen group or something unique like aespa or kiss of life.

I want everyone who is Watching this video, to stop it, listen to the album in full, watch the art film & the MV for Rum Pum Pum Pum, promise me, you won't regret it and Jimi's video will much more sense. I'm risking too much here, but at this point IDC: Pink Tape is probably the best Kpop album of all time, and arguably, music in general. Now that we're in a f(x) discussion, i don't like that Free Somebody is trending in social media for the wrong reasons.

Listen to Chu and go check the album out of you haven't yet! My favorite song is Shadow, one of the best eerie songs ever made in kpop

honestly! the art film is what made it stand out and the mv was never meant to do that so that was the job of the art film and when we finally got to 4 walls it felt satisfactory in a way and like you appreciate their earlier works. i miss f(x) and there isn’t a day where i don’t wish luna would just release music more regularly 🙃
