@ArtbyBrooke4 жыл бұрын
Just now seeing this comment, unfortunately KZbin doesn't seem to notify me when I get a comment under another comment. I will try to show that more in my next video! The vase is sitting on a cup, so I try to very carefully lift it by holding the cup. I usually try to move it while the paint is still flowing because I often touch the lip of the vase and leave finger marks, so the flowing paint can cover that up.
@ArtbyBrooke4 жыл бұрын
Hello :) I don't do an exact ratio, I usually start with 1:2 paint to floetrol but I mainly go by consistency because every brand of paint is different (I need more floetrol for thicker paints). I break down my mixing process in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2PNdYh8j8-Veas (as I show in the video, I sometimes add some water, but often I just add a little extra floetrol instead if I want to thin it a little).

@ArtbyBrooke3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! If you click in the description below my video, you can see which paints and pouring medium (floetrol, in this case) I use. It'll depend on how much those cost in your area (though you can totally do this with just craft paints) but I would guess that everything included costs less than $10. I look for sales on all of my favorite materials before I grab them. Also, the glass vase is from my local Dollar Tree for $1, but you could also keep an eye out for any glass vases at garage sales or thrift stores.

I love what you did , I think the colors are so pretty. I wanted to know do you add water to the acrylic Paint?
@ArtbyBrooke2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I add a pouring medium, in most cases I use Floetrol, at about 2 parts Floetrol to 1 part paint (depending on if the paint is thicker or not) and I sometimes add a tiny bit of water, but not every time. I have a video on how I paint a geode and I show my paint mixing process if you are interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2PNdYh8j8-Veas

This looks really nice. Did you prime your canvas before you started your pour?
@ArtbyBrooke3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I honestly can't remember if I primed that one. If I do anything, I like using gesso on the canvas but I only do that for maybe 30% of them. Usually canvas comes pre-primed so unless I notice holes or bare canvas, I mostly just skip that step.
@tjscrafts79533 жыл бұрын
Good morning beautiful did you use a medium in all the colors ir so what is your ratio. Can I use a spray sealer? Thanks Terri
@ArtbyBrooke3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I use Floetrol (the U.S. one) as a flow medium. I usually start with about 1/3 paint to 2/3 Floetrol but I mix to a specific consistency so it can differ depending on the thickness of the paint. I also sometimes add a little bit of water but usually not a lot. If you would like to see a video where I walk you through my mixing process, you can check out my How To Paint A Geode video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2PNdYh8j8-Veas You can use a spray sealer! I only have experience with Rust-oleum Crystal Clear Enamel. You will need to spray it outside/in a garage/in a well-ventilated area because it has a STRONG smell. I like Liquitex Varnish too, but I use brushes to paint that on instead of spraying. Thank you for your comment!

Thank you very much! If you look in the description you can see a list of all of the brands and colors I used. I try to do that for every video if I know which paints were chosen (sometimes I use leftover paints and can't remember what it originally was). I mix my paints with Floetrol (mine is the US version) unless they're already pre-mixed.
@racvlee66502 жыл бұрын
did you mix each paint with Fluetrol before pouring into the cup? and could you use a container to save the extra paint and pour the excess on another vessel?
@ArtbyBrooke2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I mix each color paint with Floetrol and sometimes a little tiny bit of water (not required, just depends on how thick your mixture is). And I have a playlist with some tips and tricks, including a couple of ways to store your paint for later: kzbin.info/aero/PL1XeEzqCLcbV3T_Q2EP2UCnLl_GwKBez0 I've had paint last for a couple of months even, as long as it is sealed well. I just usually have to add a little more Floetrol and a little more water to thin is back out again. Stir well and check for clumps before pouring.

Beautiful....how did u remove the vase
@ArtbyBrooke4 жыл бұрын
I didn't leave it in this video because it's often precarious and awkward, but I will try to include it in my next vase paint pour. The vase is upside down on a cup that is wider than the vase, so I gently and carefully pick it up by the cup but sometimes my fingers hit the vase. I try to move it while the paint is still moving/flowing so the paint still rolls down the side and covers where I touched it (if it doesn't, I add a little more paint).

I love it! I’m new to pour art, how much of the floetral do you add? Is there a certain type of pour paint that you use, or can you use any acrylic?
@ArtbyBrooke3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I'm so excited you're starting, it can be really fun :) The amount of floetrol I add depends on how thick the paint is (craft acrylics are thinner and more watery than heavy body acrylics). You can use any acrylic as far as I know, and I like trying all kinds of brands to see what I like best. Most of my paint pouring videos list the brands I use in the description so you can see from some of my more recent ones, I have tried most of the paint you would find at a local craft store at one time or another (I have just heard to avoid Apple Barrel white because it can crack as it dries). Here is a video of how I paint pour my geodes if you would like to watch me mixing paint: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2PNdYh8j8-Veas . I hope that is helpful, feel free to ask any other questions!

@ArtbyBrooke4 ай бұрын
I have used (and liked) Rustoleum Crystal Clear Enamel spray, like this: amzn.to/3Xh3gLN (an affiliate link, I make a small commission off of purchases). You would need to spray it on the outside, and be sure to hand wash the inside of the glass only because I don't believe it's dishwasher safe. You can usually find it or something similar at local hardware stores :)

what's happens if there is too much paint on the vase will it dry thick and how do you stop the drips from the opening of the vase?
@ArtbyBrooke4 жыл бұрын
The paint keeps moving for quite awhile until it dries, so I have never had it dry thick. Luckily because of the glass, most of the paint slides off (but this means your vase changes a lot as it dries too, so don't get too attached to the look haha). As long as the vase is on something (I use upside down cups) and not sitting in paint, I usually don't have trouble with drips going inside. You could take some sandpaper once the paint is all dry and just gently sand out anything that gets inside if needed.

My colors come out so dull,ive done 4 acrylic pours so far and my compyrs is just not glossy at all..Some of it seems "stodgy" on the canvas. HELP lol
@ArtbyBrooke3 жыл бұрын
I'm so sorry Yusraa, that sounds really frustrating. Dull colors can come from not having contrast in your pour (like if all of your colors are light or all of your colors are dark), or it could be that the colors are too thin and mixing together. Also, if your pouring medium (in my case, I use Floetrol) dries matte instead of shiny or glossy, that can make the colors look a little dull. For me, when I varnish my paintings later with a shiny varnish, it brings back those colors. Also, if your colors are getting muddy (like all of the colors are kind of dull and gray or brownish, or just all a similar color after pouring) then you may want to focus on only colors that work together. Colors on opposite sides of a color wheel look beautiful next to each other, but if they mix they can create a muddy look. I would recommend focusing on just using colors together that when they mix, can make something cool as well. Like blue and yellow together when mixed would make green, which is nice, so you could do a blue, yellow, and green pour. Or, you could try doing a puddle pour, which reduces the places where colors might mix and get muddy. I have several puddle pours but you could check out this one as an example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ramcpKl9YtJ9aJI I hope this helps!

How do you get it so shiny
@ArtbyBrooke5 ай бұрын
It's really shiny in the video because it's all still wet paint. But when they're dry I like using Rustoleum Crystal Clear Enamel gloss spray ( like this: amzn.to/3V0HWIQ ) on the vases (you'll need to carefully hand wash most likely) and Liquitex varnish ( like this: amzn.to/4bi00nz ) on the canvas. Those are affiliate links and I do make a small percentage off of sales through them at no additional cost to you. But you can also find the spray at local hardware stores like Lowes or Home Depot, and the Liquitex Varnish at art stores like Michaels.
