Usually when people customize dolls like this, they brush the yarn smooth before they sew it to the head so they don't waste so much. Not sure why she brushed it out after it was on the doll

It's not as difficult as it looks, if you heat up the joint. You can even do it underwater. Took me years to pluck up the courage, though. Once you master it, you can mix & match heads like Dr Frankenstein! Start with a doll you don't care about, maybe a broken one.
