Mega Man X3 - Gravity Beetle Stage

Gravity Beetle's theme alone is enough for me to wish they had the SNES version of Mega Man X3 in the Mega Man X Collection. I wish they at least had both the SNES and PS1 versions to choose from so I could ignore the PS1 version.

Gravity Beetle was my favorite. Apparently, he only joined Dr. Doppler's army to get revenge because X killed his brother, Boomer Kuwanger.

Gravity Beetle has an awesome music, and im glad you saved it for last! I also really like the maverick himself due to his interesting backstory. Gravity Beetle is Boomer Kuwanger's brother, and one of the few reploids that turned Maverick on its own will upon learning his brother's death.

It is very nice of X to not fall into the same "oh noes,who could it be?"-pattern of his predecessor, and immediately recognise Sigma behind all this, not even considering someone else for the battlebody. Very self aware.

Gravity Beetle is actually one of my favorite Mavericks in the series. I wish the Maverick Hunter series went past X1 just so I could see dialogue between him and X about Boomer Kuwanger. Also is it just me or does the music that plays when you select a stage sound really awkward?

While dodging the giant ceiling Gravity Well is easy, apparently it hurts A LOT if you actually get hit by it. (Half your health, I've heard) So does Gravity Beetle's charge. So this whole boss' theme is "easy to dodge, but if you mess up you pay for it big time."

+BigKlingy Heck, even the regular gravity orbs he fires hit like a truck! There is no getting around it either, since you pretty well need Gravity Beetle's weapon to get the armour upgrade... without resorting to the leg chip or expoity things at least. Gravity Beetle is definitely the slow, but painful kind of boss.

If I'm not mistaken, I think this is the first Maverick with an actual relative of sorts in a previous game. I believe Gravity Beetle's brother is Boomer Kuwanger, but I'm not 100% sure. Also want to say Launch Octopus has a relative as well. Gotta say, the music in Gravity Beetle's stage is probably my favorite in the game. Sounds pretty heroic as you make your way to the top of Gravity Beetle's tower. Byte...your translating needs work. It's almost BN4 levels of bad. You very much deserved that light particle to the knee. Not like you have much use for such a chip, no damage run and all that. Admittedly, the five second guitar riff as Pink calls it worked a lot better as the Weapon Get theme in Rockman No Constancy.

+Rexaura888 Yes, Beetle is Kuwanger's brother. It's a common Japanese trope to have a kuwagatamushi (japanese stag beetle) and a kabutomushi (japanese rhinoceros beetle) in a relationship in some way, either as brothers or rivals. According to X3's Enclosed Instruction Booklet (tm), Beetle joined Doppler's rebellion solely for the chance to fight X and avenge the blow up of his brother. Shame he's the weaker of the two, not that either of them are hard to begin wth. Also, Octopus' relative is Squid Adler from X5, which is now incredibly hilarious in hindsight thanks to Splatoon.

In case it wasn't obvious, Pinsir and Heracross in Pokemon are an example of that theme as well.

BigKlingy In their case, not quite. Pinsir's bug rival was Scyther, a praying mantis. Heracross' inclusion in Gen 2 and him being a kabutomushi is purely coincidental, as they didn't really establish any kind of relationship between it and Pinsir. X & Y did try to shake things up a bit by giving them both Mega Evolutions, but since they also gave one to Scizor, the trope still isn't played completely straight.

I have no complaints about the interlude music after the last Maverick is defeated. After all, you introduced us to it when you did your LP of Rockman: No Constancy. I find it very enjoyable.

The remix of Gravity Beetle's stage sounds pretty cool actually. Also usually go to Gravity Beetle's stage much early than this. (Usually not to long after Blizzard Buffalo's stage) Not sure when's a good time to go to him if you're trying to go a route that doesn't require too much back tracking.

Some more information that could have been useful for past videos. Last video, you asked if there was anything more to Parasitic Bomb, and there is. Normally, Parasitic Bomb latches on to an enemy and then detonates after a while. However, if there is another enemy on screen, Parasitic Bomb will drag the enemy it's latched on to toward the other one and destroy them both at the same time. A cool concept, but very situational. You'll get most of your mileage out of it to kill Bilzzard Buffalo faster. The other one is Acid Burst. Remember how Frost Shield can almost always guarantee energy drops from certain enemies? Acid Burst is the same, except it gives you weapon energy. So if you somehow run low on weapon energy in a game that refills it completely after every stage, including the fortress ones, you now have a semi-reliable way of grinding for it. About the arm chip, which I think is called the Hyper Charge, in my opinion, this game's buster upgrade is the least of its worries. Even if it was X2's awesome buster upgrade, Hyper Charge uses so much energy that you'll run out before you can take full advantage of it, and having to get hit on purpose to refill it is just inconvenient. I'd stick to Giga Crush and Nova Strike.

Looking at the rough drafts of my last English class (in college, no less), I beg to differ. I was easily able to catch and correct them in the final drafts, of course, but if Capcom just has a tendency to rush through translations without a second of proofreading, then I would imagine these typos would be inevitable.

I think this game as a whole suffers from a good chunk of theme music being either too short, too repetitive or both. Gravity Beetle's is one of the repetitive ones. X2 suffered from the same thing too, but not to the same degree as this one. It's not bad overall, but it's these little things that undermine my overall enjoyment of the music a bit, so that there are less memorable scores than the first X game.
