It was partially explained already, but here is the full story: The song is about the real live cannibal Armin M. (who is currently serving life behind bars) who came into contact with another man online, who had the sexual fantasy of being eaten by another human. When they met, Armin (the cannibal) locally anesthetized the other guy, cut off the victims penis, cooked it and they ate it together (although the victim got sick). That's why the song is called "Mein Teil", which translates to both "my part" and "my thing" (yes, including THAT "thing"...). The bridge into the chorus is "Denn du bist, was du isst", which literally means "because you are what you eat". By the way: The victim in the original case was then killed and professionally butchered. When Armin was arrested, most (not all) of his victim was still in neat packages in his freezer (including the best parts which Armin had reserved as a roast for the following Christmas). So yeah - all in all we Germans are fun people.

Regarding to your questions: Rammstein mostly won’t give a clear answer to what the lyrics are about in their songs. But this song is definitely about Armin Meiwes, who is a cannibal. Funny side note, Armin was born in Essen, essen means to eat. That’s also why he is dressed as a butcher. The keyboarder is often used for the display of pyro technique and different scenes e.g. Bück dich. In this act the microphone is built in the butchers clever. They do love to shock people and being provocative. Rammstein named their Band after a fly show accident in Ramstein 1988, which caused 70 deaths and about 1000 injured. In their songs, performances and music videos they treat topics that are controversial, homo sexuality, nudity, violence and love, which made them noticeable and famous. If you would like to react purely to their music, a lot of people favour “Sonne”, “Engel”, “Du hast”, “Mein Herz brennt”, but you might as well check out their ballads like “Ohne Dich”, “Seemann”, “Roter Sand” Greetings from Germany

German is a beautiful language. Till Lindemann is one of the best vocalists of all time. The theme of the song is about a story in Germany where a man voluntarily allowed his friend/lover to cut him up into little pieces and eat him. Mein Teil means, "my piece" in German. Here are the English translations: Looking for a well-built eighteen to thirty-year-old to be slaughtered The Master Butcher Today I will meet a gentleman He likes me so much he could eat me up Soft things and even hard ones Are on the menu Because you are What you eat And you know What it is It is my part - no My part - no Because that's my part - no My part - no The dull blade - good and proper I'm bleeding heavily and feeling sick Although I have to fight to stay awake I keep eating while in convulsions It's just so well seasoned And so nicely flambéed And so lovingly served on porcelain And with it, a good wine and gentle candlelight Yeat, I'll take my time You've got to have some culture Because you are What you eat And you know What it is It is my part - no My part - no Because that's my part - no Yes it's my part - no A cry will ascend to heaven It will cut through hosts of angels Feather-flesh will shriekingly fall From the top of the clouds into my childhood It is my part - no My part - no Because that's my part - no My part - no

"mein teil" is german for "my part" or "my member" as in one's penis...it was written about armin meiwes, a german man who posted an ad online looking for a volunteer to be killed and eaten by him. A man answered...and they had wine together before armin drugged him and severed the man's penis. He then cooked it and they ate it together before armin killed the man and butchered him. He stored the meat in his freezer and consumed him over several months...ALL with the man's permission... Yer welcome for the backstory. o-o

Yup...but this actually happened. In the early 2000's I believe. Rammstein is known for a twisted and dark sense of humor and that's what you see here. A darkly comical take on it. They took it as a badge of honor when the killer himself expressed distaste with the song and threatened violence on them XD

To be clear, the song is probably about "Armin Meiwes ,a German former computer repair technician who achieved international notoriety for killing and eating a voluntary victim whom he had found via the Internet. Wikipedia" He was caught when he tried to find another victim on the internet.
@colosseo78276 жыл бұрын
Yes, their performance is based from this song. "Mein Teil" is slang for "My part" in German, as in "my penis", which leads to what the song is about - cannibalism. I also think this was based on a true serial killer if I'm not mistaken. Now that you've seen this performance, it's time to crank it up another notch and watch the live performance to "Bück Dich".

Yes its about the Canibal of Rothenburg. He invited someone over to willingly be his next meal, but the "victim" had to/wanted to eat his own fried penis ("Mein Teil" is a way to discribe "My Penis") while bleeding to death, thats the perspective till lindemann, the singer of rammstein, is singing out of in this song. and how he enjoyed his "meal" with red wine and candlelight.
@janedoex83456 жыл бұрын
It's about Arwin Meiwes who was looking for someome who was willing to be eaten....at first (as it was written in a contact they signed) Meiwes cut and cooced his victims penis and they dined together until his "guest" died because of severe blood loss. Mein Teil Stands for a mans penis but can also be understood as my portion/ part / piece so they kind of play with these words a like they often do.

Hey, Pink, you're looking fabulous as always! Rammstein is great band. Their live performances are THAT entertaining, also their videos. Some may not like it and i can't say i am really into that, but i accept it. It's their way of presenting themselves and their art. But no one can deny their music is captivating as well. I hope you reach to their ballads. It may not seem believable, but they have gorgeous ballads too. "Mutter", "Ohne dich" and my favorite "Nebel". Another one you can react to is " Keine Lust". You can go with the music video on that. I agree on how German language suits metal music, especially the kind of Rammstein does. I used to learn German and i like how it sounds. I enjoyed other German artist as well.

Hello, I'm from Germany and I'm a big Rammstein fan. At a concert it can be that you pay up to 200 € for a ticket. The show you get is really great. The singer has stage fright that's why he does a lot with pyrotechnics. The songs usually have more than one meaning.

I love Germany, some words I pronounce wrong, they laugh & gracefully correct me & switch to English. Beautiful country. Great band, time to upload some more of their songs.

It’s about the guy who put an ad on the internet that he wanted to find a victim to eat him. So, some guy actually responded to the ad and this Cannibal cut his penis, they both ate it and after that the Cannibal cut him, put his parts in the fridge and kept eating him. He actually put another ad on the internet that he was looking for another victim but he got arrested. It happened in Rotenburg, he is known as Rotenburg Cannibal or The master butcher.

The reason why I love and admire Rammstein is because they tell an interesting story in their songs. To me they are true artists unlike new pop artists who sing about nothing. And I usually don’t listen to Rock, Hard R, Metal etc. I am a „pop“ girl but Rammstein are amazing. From old songs I don’t like „du hast“ :)) Cause I am a „pop“ kinda girl I love songs „Sonne“, „ohne dich“, „Rosenrot“, „Mutter“. Actually I remember they had another amazing song and in the video they all wore white (i think) latex costumes but I can’t find the name of the song. I’d love to go to their concert.

Here's the lyrics in English: Mein Teil - Rammstein [Intro] “Looking for a well-built 18 to 30-year-old to be slaughtered” The Master Butcher [Verse 1] Today I will meet a gentleman He likes me so much he could eat me up Soft parts and even hard ones Are on the menu [Pre-Chorus] Because you are what you eat And you know what it is [Chorus] It is my part - no My part - no There that's my part - no My part - no [Verse 2] The dull blade good and proper I'm bleeding heavily and feeling sick Although I have to fight to stay awake I keep eating while in convulsions [Bridge] It's just so well seasoned And so nicely flambéed And so lovingly served on porcelain And with it, a good wine And gentle candlelight Yeah I'll take my time You've got to have some culture [Pre-Chorus] Because you are what you eat And you know what it is [Chorus] It is my part - no My part - no Because that's my part - no Yes it's my part - no [Verse 3] A cry will ascend to heaven It will cut through hosts of angels Feather-flesh will shriekingly fall From the top of the clouds onto my childhood [Chorus] It is my part - no My part - no Because that's my part - no Yes it's my part - no It is my part - no My part - no Because that's my part - no Yes it's my part - no

Most of Rammstein lyrics contains lots of social criticism. So this is important to have in mind when you analyze their stuff because they use their music to make a statement. Sometimes In a Satirical and sarcastic way.

Well for anyone interested in Mein Teil's backstory, here's a quick sum up. A man, whom i'll refer to as Armin, posted on a site named cannibal café, searching for a volunteer to be eaten. He met 1 man whom i'll simply refer to as volunteer, who was willing to be quote on quote, sacrificed. They met up, and volunteer instructed Armin to cut off his... Teil. Armin proceeded so, and volunteer screamed for a moment, eventually realizing screaming wouldn't help. Armin and volunteer proceeded to try and eat the part, aka Teil, but found it to be raw. So, Armin proceeded to cook it, refered by Rammstein's live performance, putting Flake in a cooking pot. Then, they ate it, and the volunteer was in so much pain, Armin stabbed a knife in his throat to end his agony. Afterwards, Armin proceeded to dismember his body, recording it, making a 4 hour long tape. Now Armin couldn't be punished for the acts, as he ate a volunteers Teil, but he'd serving life sentence for dismemberment of a corpse. Rammstein references these things with stuff like, sawing Till's mic-hete between his legs, burning Flake, all the lyrics, etc.

Search for Armin Meiwes, you will understand it all. I think the story is pretty interesting. Many people get shocked when they see Rammstein performances at first, but that's part of their style. No one ever got hurt in their shows. By the way the band members of Rammstein are more kind than most celibrities I know. There's a big difference between their provocative art and their behavior in real life.

I really appreciate your unbiased review of Rammstein I love the band. Their theatricals are awesome one hell of a live show with lots of Fire that's metal. I don't speak German or understand it but I sure do headbang to it it's a very aggressive language that's perfect for metal I love that you're a headbanger too!!! happy Fourth of July.
@drowsy916savelle66 жыл бұрын
You are very beautiful and well spoken from my understanding the song is based a true event of a actual cannibal an a mentally ill man volunteering to be ate by him which happened rammstein lyrics tend to be very dark with a graphic vivid poetry behind it which is at times open to interpretation

"Mein Teil" means "My Part" He is singing "That is my part" (Es ist mein teil) A part of meat. That he says that belongs to him (only the chorus) The shows that Rammstein give are one big hell of a party. A lot of fake blood, a lot of metal and a lot of fireworks. All for show and for fun. I just love it ... Oh and what Zack G is telling .... that is true. There was this kannibal man who wanted someone "for dinner" and placed an ad for a request. That request was that he was looking for someone to volunteer to eat. True story :D That is where this song is based on

Rammstein always has a stage performance linked to a popular song, for instance when playing Seemann, they pop one of the band members in a dinghy, and make him ride the crowd in it xD I dont recall if that was one specific live act or if that is a reocurring thing, but its awesome :D

You shall react to the official video of "Rammstein - Deutschland". You most certainly won't regret it, yet it may does leave you confused due to the sole reason it's a 9 minute long epic almost hollywood blockbuster movie wrapped in utter briliant art highlighting Germanys history, from the Romans fighting the germanic tribes to the most likely distant future. Showing key points what Germany has been through with stunning scenes. I may have to add it's their best song, regards many different aspects. Therefore dive into the official "Rammstein - Deutschland" video. It has over 110 Million views.
