Exactly! Nick was mentally replaying the entire conversation they had in the sea, and having the same horrified realization that *we* all had just *before* that conversation. Plus, he's in the shower and there's a closed door between them, it's awkward and he can't immediately go for a hug, which would likely be his first impulse otherwise. And it always takes Nick a moment to process his own reaction in these situations - for example, think about the conversation before their first kiss, and the one at the milkshake place when Charlie suggests they go on a date just the two of them. It's really no wonder he doesn't immediately respond verbally. And it's also no wonder that the lack of response gives Charlie anxiety and triggers a flight response. Poor boys, such a classic, emotionally wrenching Heartstopper situation 🥹😄🍂💙💛 but also, they're so iconically wonderful with and for each other!

as an aroace person who was EXACTLY like isaac growing up, it seems so dramatic from the other side but when you feel like your entire world view/what we have been told, as kids, to expect from life has changed in such a short time it genuinely feels like your life is ending. as kids we're told 'just wait until you're older and you find _the one_ ' and that romantic love is this amazing, wonderful and life changing thing. to know, as a child and teen, that there's _something_ different about you because you don't know what to say when your friends talk about their crushes (sadly, i actually thought that picking which boy i hated the least and deciding that i would have a crush on him was the way it worked for my friends too lol) and then actually realising/accepting that _oh_ all my life i have been told that the only options i have are liking the same gender, the opposite gender or liking all genders but, then, why do i fit into none of that? it shifts your entire world view and suddenly this one thing that you were supposed to have, that was supposed to be as natural as breathing, you will never have. it's sad, but the first thought isn't 'oh, if people can like all genders, then shouldn't there be people who like none?' but, instead, 'what's wrong with me?'. and when that happens, when suddenly romantic love isn't something you'll be able to feel or relate to, you hold very very tightly onto what you do have: friends, family etc. thinking, i might not have a relationship like everyone else in my life, but look look i still have amazing friends that i love very much but_oh_, maybe they don't feel as strongly about platonic love as i do so *i* have to be the one making the effort, to show them that i'm still here. and, at some point, it just boils over. of course, this is tv so everything had to be happening at once (charlie's mental health struggles and eating disorder, isaac figuring out his aroaceness and place in the world, tao and elle figuring out long distance and self esteem issues etc.) which doesn't help with the clear communication needed to better these situations but they're kids, after all lol. love the video as always, excited for part 2

35:10 as someone who's also aromantic and asexual, maybe this will help. it's already kind of soul-crushing to have to reimagine your life from scratch without sex and romance, and at least I definitely had a phase where people's relationships made me feel bitter because I knew I'd never have that, and while I didn't want it, I didn't know it would be possible to have a happy life without it. It's similar to when grief makes you bitter before you can come around to healing. Could Isaac have handled that better? Probably! At the end of the day, Isaac just needed time and reassurance that his friends would be there for him, and that he was going to be okay. Once he gets that, you'll see especially in the second half of the season that he's a very supportive friend, and super invested in all the nitty gritty details about his friends' relationships. And Tao remembers to be the attentive, proactive friend that we've already known him to be - he just needed a little rerouting, and Isaac's outburst reminds him of that. (Frankly, it's kind of refreshing to see THIS kind of rep too - not just a self-hating aroace, but someone who gets mad at the world for being the way it is before he learns to find his place in it. I've been there, people I know have been there. I'm sure it seems unreasonable and annoying from the outside, but it does happen, and it's all part of the process.) Thanks for your insights and the laughs this episode too, though, I haven't laughed this hard in a while and I needed that

The 4th episode is genuinely my favorite in the series, it felt so raw and genuine and you can tell the writing had improved so much. My biggest praises of the episode are the cinematography and editing, the shots were so cinematic and you could tell the cinematographer got really creative. And the editing was just perfection! I love the way they showed the outside perspective of nick feeling helpless without Charlie and trying to act like he was fine, but ultimately breaking down. Then showing Charlie’s perspective of getting help and starting therapy, it obviously being a struggle but also benefiting him, it was just so good. Can’t wait for the next 4 episodes😋

15:49 yes, most "living rooms" or "parlors" have doors in older rowhouses or "terraced houses" (as they're typically referred to in the UK). In the US, they're generally sliding or French doors (depending on the size of the home). I could be wrong, but I think it's mostly intended to help with weather and draft, as opposed to privacy, kind of in the same way a vestibule functions

Okay actually finished the video now, but i actually really appreciated the conversation you two had about Isaac. One of the things that makes being ace or aro so difficult is that romance and sex are just EVERYWHERE so trying to figure out if thats what you want is soooooo much harder. Of course you would want that, everybody wants that! The lack of attraction is so much harder to recognize than attraction. But obv all this is impossible to know if you aren't ace or aro, or even if you are and just haven't learned the words for it yet. I was just like, screaming internally while you were arguing about Isaac, and then the understanding you were able to come to about his situation was just like, really lovely to watch. Thank you for leaving that whole process in the video ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ the aro/ace author said in an interview that Isaac is their way of shoehorning asexual representation into nore people's lives 😈
@PinkPopcast21 күн бұрын
I think if there were more platforms where ignorance could be talked out into understanding - or just willingness to be vulnerable - the world would be a better place. I (Rizzo) felt “attacked” and “annoyed” only to realize that no one was “attacking” me, and my annoyance stemmed from nothing. Keeping this conversation in is a way of holding myself accountable as well as opening the doors for other people having conversations to understand you are NOT always going to understand right away - but that shouldn’t stop you from evolving your perspectives!

As an asexual and aromantic it can actually be extremely stressful when everyone around you was in a relationship I don't envy them and I understand that they love and want to be in a relationship but when they start ignoring you and become annoying/cringy when they're in a relationship. and so when they distance themselves from you it's a harder blow than you think, we don't yearn for a partner so we rely on our friendships and families to be there for us. Benji described it really well and Rizzo got there💀 I just really relate to Isaac and appreciate seeing a character like him in a show like this.

Some people are totally sex-averse, others might be up for it but only under certain circumstances, etc. There are a lot of “microlabels” in the ace community that basically break things down in terms of who, when, how often, and why. Personally, I just say I’m somewhere in the gray area and leave it at that. And you probably know this by now, but on GCSE scores, a 5 is a passing grade and a 9 is an A+. They did use a A-F system until just a few years ago; none of the British people I talk to online seem to know the reason they changed it.

As a person with almost 30 years old who has never been in a romantic relationship (I'm ace and maybe aromantic, still figuring out), it can be very lonely when most of your friends are in romantic relationships. I see and understand Isaac A LOT! Honestly, I just accepted the defeat, I will watch movies by myself, go to the cinema alone, write in my notebook when there is nobody to listen to my crazy theories...When they have time, we'll meet, I guess 🤷

18:00 Brit here! The exam grading system is from 9-1 instead of A*-U. 9 is the best and highest grade you can get, equivalent to an A* or A+, a 6 is like a B and a 4 is a C (the passing grade). So Nick passed all his exams with perfect grades for PE and French, and Tara got perfect grades across the board!

I am happy that you decided to do some research about asexuality and aromanticism. I am just speaking for myself (a pansexual aroace), but I didn't think Rizzo was an asshole. Benji was correct, but Rizzo wasn't actually wrong either. Isaac admits that he was acting out a little because he is still coming to terms with his newly realized idenities and is a bit jealous of the others. Everyone is still wrong for ignoring him. I never acted like Isaac mostly because I did not realize I was on the asexuality spectrum and aromantic until I was in my 30s. It took me a while to actually realize, but I had already been living it for years and years. It is still very new to Isaac and he is "just a kid" so I don't really fault him.
@PinkPopcast21 күн бұрын
I like that perspective! And we were for sure on his side like, “please, don’t fully ignore me or cancel plans or use me as a couch to make out with your partner on” lolol

oooh ooh aroace here-- its kinda hard when you don't understand why people would rather not hang out with you. you kinda feel like maybe they just don't like you. when the only baseline for enjoying someones presence is friendship and someone prefers another;s company to yours, maybe they just don't wanna be friends. only found out i'm aroace after a three month relationship because kissing isn't fun when i have an emotional connection. it can take a while and a lot of people are in denial.

I really appreciate this show for how it handles topics that are often heavy and personal to a lot of people, me included. So instead of getting into my feelings about it all, I'm gonna address the UK zoos bit. Yes, a lot zoos I've been to have walkthrough areas like that! In particular, I see loads with lemurs, but also there are ones with exotic birds and bats and butterflies (and I'm sure thats not extensive). The zoo used in this season is Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire. I'd personally also recommend if you ever did come to the UK and want to go somewhere, Chester Zoo in the North West is amazing - that's the place I know from experience has all the walkthroughs I mentioned above, the bat one is especially cool. But both zoos do amazing things for conservation, so either way you'll be supporting good work!

So so happy to see your reactions! This season was so hard to watch, but I think they did a great job of exploring heavier topics and reminding the audience that, yes, THEY ARE JUST KIDS 😂 and I think the Issac and Tao conversation was important for both sides! Both of them were totally valid in how they felt and just didn’t know how to voice it at first. I love how they’re exploring so many different human stories, and the actors are killing it. Excited for part 2!

"Wow, just finished Heartstopper S3 Part 1, and I can hardly process everything that just happened! The emotional depth in this season is truly remarkable. The way they explore themes of love, identity, and the struggles of adolescence feels so raw and relatable. I found myself tearing up during so many scenes; it’s incredible how a show can capture such profound feelings. Charlie and Nick’s journey always resonates with me, especially when they face challenges that hit so close to home. The character development has been astounding, and I can’t help but root for their happiness. I love how this season dives deeper into supporting characters as well, showing that everyone has their own battles to fight. It’s a beautiful reminder that love is not just about romance but also about friendship and personal growth. I’m honestly heartbroken yet hopeful after that finale. Can’t wait for the next part, but I need a moment to gather my thoughts! ❤"

I feel that identifying as anything but straight does make you go through a mourning period. You dont wish to be straight but it certainly would be 'easier' and your life is only just starting and is completely unknown to you. And society is set up for people to always have another significant other, like buying homes and starting families. Its ridiculously hard to exist alone when most other people are coupled up. And a lot of people save their emotional intimacy for their partners when they should be sharing it with their friends because community usually outlasts romantic relationships

I'm not aroace, but I am demi. I think I would get where Rizzo is coming from more so, if the couples were a lot less "IN YOUR FACE" about their romantic love. I mean, you can be in a romantic relationship and not be completely preoccupied with one another, when hanging out with a friend. In fact, having been single for a long time, I do sort of despise this creation of a combined identity for couples, where they start feeling less like individuals to me. It's why a lot of times after a breakup, people have to rediscover their actual identity.

As an aroace, I love that they explored about going through the grief of knowing that everything you know about your life, especially when amatonormativity is linked with having a "successful, fulfilled life" so just as the same when gay people go through grief about not having the "normal hetero life", it is also very similar to that There would be plenty of times I'd get frustrated why am I not just like everyone where its easy to just flirt or fall for someone, and to be going through that as a teen must have been very scary for Isaac Hence why he's very bitter about it when all he's seeing with his friends is that theyre couples I hope next season we explore more of Isaac and Tori (both canon ace characters) I know we will cause Alice is aroace themself and that gives me alot of hope unlike other ace characters that just disappeared after confirming theyre ace (im looking at you sex education)

0:38 there were so many moments this season where I was like, "if this was an American show, they'd be brutally injured/dead right now" 💀 26:25 Joe's acting here was amazing, and I'm so glad the emotions weren't rushed or "made beautiful" and concise for a scene. We got to sit with him in the stress, with the lump of tears in his throat, unable to speak... It was perfect. 27:29 absolutely hilarious fumbling of words there, Rizzo 🤣 and Benji's reaction made it 10x better. Also, for the show, I loved this scene because it felt so helpful and understanding. I was expecting the aunt to tell Nick he should move on because Charlie is too "broken" 🥺 but she was honest and realistic without being cynical and dismissive. So many people need that. 31:54 I'm so sad Mr. Ajayi got cut off here. 1) I really wanted to see how he would handle that conversation, 2) at the time, I was worried the story was gonna lead into that like: we missed the opportunity for hope and now it's all downhill from here. 41:01 I MADE THE SAME EXACT JOKE 🤣🤣🤣 The way I didn't even notice Olivia Coleman or the bully's absence 😭 45:20 I solely know this actor from Hancock and I couldn't stop laughing when it clicked because I was like "why do I hate this poor man's face?" Love him now though 🥰 Thanks for the reaction, can't wait for the rest 💕
