@@eduardochavacano I take that as a compliment, not the "Kardashianic" moment though, having food preference is nothing similar to whatever kardashianic definition you have. @jorense3 жыл бұрын
Hi Gerard! Thanks for watching. I was 9 yrs old when I saw how a pig was slaughtered and butchered for a feast. That stayed in my mind even up to this day, I still know how the smell was. I know that the food preparation at that time was meant to be that way, I understand the cultural aspect of it all. But I guess it left a negative impression on me. but I don't mind witnessing how pork is being prepared in the kitchen, in fact I love seeing how pork dishes are being done.

@@jorense I was probably the same age when I saw a large pig being bled to death. It was screaming so loudly. I don't remember what I thought about it. I just remember that it was making a lot of noise. Felt bad for the pig but didn't have an overwhelming guilt that would stick with me. To me, it's food and it died for a reason.

@@jorense I can definitely relate to your story. When my son was about 7 years old, he witnessed a live chicken being butchered in my in-law's kitchen in the Philippines. It left a strong negative impact on him that he refused to eat chicken for many years. He is now 32 years old and still won't eat cut-up chicken parts like legs, wings or any bony chicken body parts. The only way he would eat chicken meat is when it is boneless and cubed. He said he does not want to be reminded of how the chicken looked like while it was alive.

@@Astig1110 Oh my, poor kid (though he is an adult now) at that age kids are sponges and they tend to absorb everything, at a certain degree anything they experience at that particular moment changes them for the rest of their lives, be it about food or any circumstances, it really leaves an indelible mark. Well its not super authentic. Filipinos don’t really understand the value of offering something legitimate or an authentic representation of culture.
@jorense3 жыл бұрын
@@eduardochavacano what is authentic to you then? Food is personal, familial and even regional. Adobo in the Philippines may vary per region, per town and even per family. Food evolves and adapts. Your own culture, whatever it is, expands. The reason why you are standing on your two feet because you evolved as a human being and I hope continuously. Don't give sweeping statement if your understanding of Filipino culture is very limited. You may assume you know, but assumptions are far from knowing and living it. I hope your understanding of Filipino culture doesn't stop from just scratching the surface.

I suggest kung may bias ka dun sa particular food/ingredient, wag mo i-review! Hindi mo mabibigyan ng justice yung food at yung nagluto.
@jorense3 жыл бұрын
Have you seen the whole video? While i don't eat pork, I still decided to taste it to give my honest review. Clearly I said I liked it, I felt the fat skin melted inside my mouth, for a first timer it was a good experience. Honest review is giving justice to the one who prepared the food. Just because it didn't meet your expectation, I am serving injustice to the chef. And by the way pork will never part of my diet still, but I will taste it if need be. My suggestion next time you give a "comment review" on a certain content understand the context.
@LarryfromPH3 жыл бұрын
@@jorense Understand but again, it would have been a different review if you don't have bias to pork and could have been a pretty objective review. Anyway, good luck to you and your vlogs!
@jorense3 жыл бұрын
@@LarryfromPH I don' get the context of this: "if you don't have bias..." Because if I say I love the food, even if it's not, that is a definition of bias. And, where is that in this situiationt? There is no objective review on food, just to be clear. There will be biases, that's a fact. Adobo has thousands of versions depending on who prepares it, everyone would always have a different take on it. Food is a personal experience, it may be a wonderful experience for you, maybe not for me. You may like it with pepper or perhaps salt is just enough for somebody else. You maybe too allergic with dairy, or would have developed a great amount of tolerance. You may like a pizza or abhor it. A proper review is being truthful and just being honest with your preference. No sugar coating, no restrictions, but respectful. You talk about a different review, well, I believe I gave you one, coming from me who doesn't eat pork, yet loved how it melted in my mouth when I took that risk to take a bite. That is different from the usual review expectations you have, your own bias. So let met just give you a challenge, eat something that you don't like and tell me all about it after, let's share experiences. I already did one, so maybe I'll wait for your review? Thank you for the goodluck wishes!
@LarryfromPH3 жыл бұрын
@@jorense That was a mouthful of reply. Well if food reviews will always be subjective, which means everyone would have a different experience eating it, then what is the purpose then of a review and telling it to other people when you say they would have a different experience anyway? Just my thoughts. Btw, I like how you are touring this kind of places.
@jorense3 жыл бұрын
@@LarryfromPH Probably, it was "mouthful". But, sometimes you need to clear the room when it is too cloudy. Braise yourself to another "mouthful" explanation. "then what is the purpose then of a review and telling it to other people when you say they would have a different experience anyway?" You said. My answer: Well you just answered your own question in your own sentence. Reviews are meant to be about your own experience. You let people understand where you are coming from, you describe to them your feelings, you give them a picture of how it taste like. You don't tell them what to think nor it's about this general rule of what it should be: but it's giving them a relatable situation, yet different as well. I think you are coming from a belief that there should be one standard way of reviewing, but there is none. Furthermore, a reviewer would argue why a certain restaurant received a Michelin star when in fact the small eatery across the street has a better menu. That's because not all reviewers think alike. If they all think alike then there would be a slew of restaurants in the Philippines with Michelin star. But we went far from the original argument: "Me, not qualified as a reviewer because of my so called "bias". As I stated before, the very definition of bias is not applicable to this situation. My own preferences and your own preferences shouldn't hold us back giving our own personal take on certain things for as long as we have taken ourselves far beyond our limit. I have taken myself beyond my limit of not eating pork: Tried it, liked it and enjoyed the experience. I gave my truthful review on it. Imagine fellow non-pork eaters seeing me eating a pork dish, it would probably give them a different understanding. Essentially, that is a review: giving people a different understanding of a certain dish from their own experience. So, when would you have a different understanding of a different dish? I hope you'll still take that challenge, eat something you don't like and share your experience. I ate kangaroo and crocodile meat before. I didn't like the thought of it, but I liked the taste of it and I enjoyed the experience. Your turn. Thanks for this, also: "Btw, I like how you are touring this kind of places." BTW: "mouthful" as an adjective: can be taken negatively. But I am giving you my unbiased understanding of how you used it here.

Why even drag Filipino culture to Finland? The Ego and the insecurity of a few will spread mediocrity and corruption in places where they have the chance to improve themselves.
@jorense3 жыл бұрын
Why not? You just said it "ego and insecurity of a few". Few. There are far more Filipinos out there who can beam goodness around the world. Don't let this "few" overshadow your mind. Filipino culture deserves to be shared. I have met so many hardworking, kindhearted Filipinos around the world and they don't deserve that statement.

You don’t eat like a Filipino. Also to make criticism on the food to your personal preference is not respectful to the cook. I wonder what kind of food you prepare for yourself and I also wonder if you are able to take criticism .
@jorense3 жыл бұрын
What is the real and definitive rule of eating like a Filipino? Because if there is (are), probably a lot of us are going to fail in this aspect. Politely, can you sight in this segment where I was disrespectful of the chef? Stating your preference is not a criticism it is being respectful and being honest :-). It was communicated in a friendly way. If you did watch and understand the whole piece, I even said I liked it truthfully, even if I don't eat pork I still tasted it, surprising to you perhaps I even swallowed it. And the chef is a long time friend and she knows me through and through. So I don't understand the point that you raised Michael. And you wonder If I am able to take criticisms, yes, I should be, and that is by answering your statement respectfully and engaging you constructively. Cheers!

Hi Jan Michael, i’m sure you have one particular food that you don’t like and would rather not eat. Eating pork (or not eating pork) as you know (probably not) doesn’t define your nationality, other nationalities eat pork, does that make them Filipino? Not a bit. So I don't know what's your point there. The last time I ate pork I was 9 yrs old. Also, i may have my personal limitation about eating park, but hey, I still ate it and gave my reaction, didn't I? Having said that it would still probably be out of my plate. I hope next time you’ll also be respectful with your choices of words. While I respect your opinion, that doesn’t give you the license to mock a person with a negative word (arte). Sometimes, imagine to be at the receiving end of your words. Lastly, start your statement with why, because you need to know,, and not, with a scornful word because that kills learning. Dyusme Bro, Peace out!
