Paaji these kind of valleys are called glacial valleys(U-Shaped), these are carved by glaciers during millions of years, these areas are not green because of the height and usually where glaciers are formed trees are not able to grow. More stones, rockes and almost no trees! The border you mentioned at the end of Parvati valley is a morain(pile of dirt and rocks at the end of a glacier) .

It seems maine khud mantalai lake k darshan kr liye. I have one query i.e. what would be the total expense of the trip for a person? And is it mandatory to take guide. Also provide your contact no.
