Sheer comedic genius. Can't get better than this. Peter Cook is outstanding as always.

I was impressed by both comedic sparrers the first I watched this video. And I've watched it several times because it's Peter Cook at his best, and up against Chris Moore at around his best, the early nineties - when apparently sheer desperation or god knows made him a sort of monster of ballsy comedic ambition. But having sought out more of Chris Moore's early stuff - in particular his delightful Jam radio series, also available on KZbin, thankfully - I've found he doesn't impart persuasively that he enjoys what he's doing. There's a vigilante-ism to this sort of comedy. Doing it for a cause rather than a laugh, rather than for a cause and a laugh. There are softer, equally as funny, coevals to Chris Moore's masochist-comic movement, or you might see them as his foster-children - Steve Coogan and Stewart Lee come to mind as deserving special praise. But I like the movement less than the one Peter Cook helped found, which struggled to put down less itself, and so too its audience, than to see in its audience, and so too in itself, something more delightful, something truly hateful. Peter Cook's candid sadism tastes fresher to me than Chris Moore's audacious sadomasochism. It's funnier to watch someone being brilliant and having a good time at least doing so than someone being brilliant punching holes in his ears or an unloaded gun in his mouth. Still, the iterations of "Die. Die, Peter Cook," throughout I find deeply cathartic, almost as much as Derrick and Clive at their most unspun. It's the stale taste of despair in his comedy makes the joke suffer. Comedy at its best, like eros, is transcendent, beyond despair. If Chris Moore laughed honestly, I think his joke would stick.

That it is. Quite a comedic talent, but better at the punchline than the listening, the mark of a higher talent.

@petermorningsnow6 жыл бұрын
Do you mean I am the true intellectual? Is that an insult? Should I feel ashamed by your response to my comment to the comment I wrote to the video which I still believe, in all my self importance, to be a very good comment. But I didn't work very hard in writing what I wrote. Though I did pay attention to my punctuation.

@@fuxake As you say, lol. It's also Derek. But at least the punctuation is impeccable. Really odd.

"I hope you won't mind if I hold you to it because the next time we want to interview you you'll probably be dead." - Sadly Morris may well have wanted to interview Sir Arthur again, and then Cook went and died nearly a year later. >_
