even with 50+ years of being a mechanic, the induction noise from that engine makes the hairs on my arm stand up.😵💫

Great vid as usual! Ty tons for doing this. GTS4 wins for me. Looks like the 5 needs another point of compression to really come into its own
@PenguinMotorsАй бұрын
Maybe but then again the GTS 4 is more radical so that too would probably benefit from higher compression, either way the comparison between both is valid as they were tested under same conditions

thanks, i cant afford one either, funny tho think i sold my last Ford, A running and driving reasonably tidy mk2 RS2000 for about £3500, it would be worth getting on for ten times that today

Thanks for another video Graham!! This channel is gold. It would be nice to see, starting from a well tuned engine with a high CR and a race cam, switching from RON95 gasoline to RON98, and see if there are some differences in the peak power, and also what ignition adjustments are required if any. I don't know if these gasolines are available in UK but definitely would be interesting!!
@PenguinMotorsАй бұрын
Not an easy thing to test, if the CR is too high for the fuel you will run into detonation whatever you do with the ignition timing.

Another great video Graham, every day is a school day! Do you ever get vauxhall 16v redtops in or the old vauxhall 8v cavalier engines? Would be good to see those. The rover v8 is interesting too
@PenguinMotorsАй бұрын
I’ve worked on a lot of Vauxhall engines but never much from a tuning perspective. My uncle used to have an early mk2 1.6 sr cavilier, that finished with a 2.0 8v on 45 Dellortos, it was a bit of a weapon back in the day.

Typically cam manufacturers measure from 1.0 mm or 0.050”

How much difference does the spark plug gap make performance, at what point do you not have enough of a gap to initiate combustion, and at what point to you have too much and run into misfire. I guess this will also change with your ignition system?
@PenguinMotorsАй бұрын
ive never seen a plug change or gap make ANY difference to power output. I once spend a couple of hours trying alternative plugs, gaps etc on a rolling road somewhere along the line we gained 1BHP, knowing what i know now the gain was mopre likely from the oil getting hotter! So the only time ive ever found an actual need to adjust plug gasps was on my turbo charged bmws, they needed small gaps or would missfire coming up onto boost

Love your vids watch every1 but I’d love to see you test the cheaper piper manifold against Ashley small bore and the more exspensive Simpson also what 45 carbs are best and do u use on pinto 3 or 4 progression hole and are they 152 or 152g or something else many thanks
@PenguinMotorsАй бұрын
The problem with things like manifold testing is no one is interested in lending them to me simply to test and they cost too much for me to buy just for the hell of it. For these tests it really doesn’t matter which Webers you use because it’s all full throttle running so the progression circuits don’t come into it
@paulriggers1558Ай бұрын
in your opinion, do the [quite]big valves of a standard 2ltr pinto head hurt the low down power/torque available at road-going revs
@PenguinMotorsАй бұрын
no, bmw m10s use bigger valves than pintos as standard, plus you can put bigger valves in even a mild pinto and it will pick up torque

Question Graham, what's best way to bed in a new cam , it's a burton BF63, thanks
@PenguinMotorsАй бұрын
bf63 = lots of midrange grunt :) i always prime the oil system with a drill, then make sure the carbs are are full of fuel and ignition is timed correctly statically, so when i do hit the start button it fires straight up, then simply hold rpm somewhere around 2300 rpm for 20 mins

Another very interesting film but can you tell me when part two of the P6 engine rebuild is coming out please?
@PenguinMotorsАй бұрын
which p6 engine? if its the 2000tc sorry its just a case of when i get round to it, i will do it i just dont have a spare day! Part of the trouble is video editing engine builds takes longer than actually building the engines and i have too much to do and not enough time. For every one person thats wants info on a 2000tc there are about 12 million others that want V8 and Ford stuff. if your asking about a V8, it will be when i do some more to it

Off topic , have you ever tested dcoe v dhla , which do you prefer , and why , ?? Thanks
@PenguinMotorsАй бұрын
no i havnt, back in the day (1980's) the likes of David vizard and a few others did, with the notable exception of the A series engine which definatly prefered Webers, theres was little to no difference. My boss at the time prefered Dellortos, but i think that was mainly because he got a better deal on new ones! Dellortos were perhaps easier to get really close jet wise because the jet sizes went up in smaller steps, also Idle jet sizing was less confusing than weber. Today i would chose weber but only really because they are still in production and i have lots of weber jets/chokes etc, where as my entire stock of dellorto jets is about 8

How far off of these numbers is the original high output ford cam they released with the weiand 4bbl intake? I couldn't afford to go big, and I'm curious how much is being left on the table... until I can find a dyno in my area!
@PenguinMotorsАй бұрын
I guessing your talking about US not European pinto engines as we never got Weiand intakes over here, but judging by what ford achived over here in the 1970's with a group one cam and downdraft IDF's, this enginwe is about 50bhp more

My land rover series 2 with a 3.5 V8 on su carbs I was in a Rush The fuel pump is under middle seat On the motorway I lifted the floor because fuel pump was loosing pressure and I had an outboard motor fuel primer as I lifted middle seat cover up could see the exhaust it was glowing orange I eased off a bit It was on su with standard needles but K&N filters From cold pull the choke out went well Once warm dragged it's feet Now I'm going 3.9 on su carbs ( same carbs) going fast road cam

V8 on std needles and k+n filters will be running seriously lean, enough that I’ve seen a 20bhp loss until I carried out a needle change

Any ideas why my belt is running close to the edge on my aux pulley? 200bhp pinto? Cheers
@PenguinMotorsАй бұрын
They usurp run close to the front edge it’s not an issue, but a bent tensioner can force it even further over
@keirbaldock5579Ай бұрын
@@PenguinMotors what is the trick to tension the belt without the static timing moving? As when I move the tensioner to tighten the belt the timing moves
@PenguinMotorsАй бұрын
@@keirbaldock5579 are you talking cam or ignition timing? either way tensioning the belt should NOT have a significant effect on either timing. with the cam timing you would only check/adjust that after the belt is tight. standard pulley or vernier?
@keirbaldock5579Ай бұрын
@@PenguinMotors so if the belt is coming to the edge of the aux pulley I don't need to worry?
@PenguinMotorsАй бұрын
@@keirbaldock5579 if its only coming to the edge but not running off it dont worry, i have literally done 1000's and 1000's of dyno tests on engines like that, the thing is there are two belt guides, one at the back of the cam pulley and one at the front of the crank pulley, the belt will have a tendancy to run up against one or the other
