Reading the Catena Aurea's commentary on the daily Gospel is one of the most fruitful habits I ever took. I wish I can do it more often, and even everyday. Recommend to anyone who can.

It’s good to remember that the saints were people like us too. Also, I recognized that thumbnail from your book! Thanks for this video

Matt. You should do a video on whether or not Michelangelo was supernaturally divinely inspired. Some of his work seems to indicate so, it would be an interesting discussion

Something I found interesting while reading about the history of university education - until the printing press - professors would read out the works to their students and the students would have to essentially take dictation. By the time of the Second Scholasticism, students were able to purchase copies of the great works and it was then that the professors would assign the reading before class, that way they could teach in a true Socratic way during class. Yeah, all in Latin.

What do you think ... If Aquinas had the internet would he have written more or less (due to cat videos etc.)?

@@danielsullivan7541 Catena Aurea lol; In English a fellow commenter said it's "The Golden Chain", but I'm not sure how the book is sold, probably Catena Aurea is the way to go. Marvellous work indeed, recommend to every soul. It has 4 books, one for each Gospel

Aquinas is in heaven like "Why are you hoping I was fat???" Especially if it turns out that he wasn't.

_Catena Aurea,_ in English _The Golden Chain;_ a collection of explanatory notes (or "glosses") by various Church Fathers about the Gospels.

Why Aquinas? Why not St Basil, or one of the Cappadocians, or St John Chrysostom? Why a Scholastic? Even St Gregory Palamas would be a more fitting role model. Scholasticism led to the splintering of the West and yet another Schism which was the fountainhead of many thousands of schisms that seem to have no end.

Because Aquinas was the greatest theologian the western world has produced. I understand that Aquinas is often despised by Orthodox Christians (especially those who haven't read him) but examples instead of hand waving would be helpful. The notion that schism is a merely western phenomenon brought on by scholasticism is clearly false. *cough* Moscow-Constantinople schism.
