Thank you Evgeniy! Usually people use a mix of clay to wall the rootball but I went another way. You should see this tree next June when it will fill up the canopy nicely! Regards!

Thank you for an excellent demonstration. Your cinematography skills are as good as your bonsai skills. I am a little bit jealous of your home. The background is breath taking. The world is luck to have you share your life and interests with us. It would be great if you share a little about yourself. The trees speak for themselves. ευχαριστώ

Never thought of using drywall tape that way thanks! I use it sometimes for screens in bottom of pots.
@ArkefthosBonsai
@ArkefthosBonsai 2 жыл бұрын
That's exactly how I started with drywall tape. Screens on training pots for prebonsai. But then I needed something really thin to not take to much space on the rock. Did not have much room for clay walls. This tape did the trick perfectly. Just keep in mind that roots will get through the tape and give me a hard time during repotting in three years. But I'm going to cut the roots on the outside of the rootball anyway, so it's just 15 more minutes on repotting. Cheers!

Great video! Thanks! I really like your videos. May I ask a piece of advice? I constantly hear about keeping one branch per one stem internode (i.e. no opposite facing branches) and keeping only two shoots at the branch junctions. But it seems very hard to achieve with nursery stock material during initial styling of pines. It's if I would follow strictly with that rule, I may end up with a slightly curved thick stick out of the ground and two-three branches that doesn't resemble anything... For now, I managed only to cut off thick main leader (~ half of a tree), selected a branch as a main leader and cleaned up obvious weak and dead branches. Ah, and front facing branches are removed as well. Not sure how to proceed now. Just keep it to heal the major cut along with some branches' cuts? What I also see, is that KZbin bonsai-ers sometimes keep 2 (or even 3 incl. back one) branches for pines, as they have long internodes and normally have 4+ branches out of each - not a lot of room for selection. My pines are of group of 5-needle white pines (Balkan/Macedonian pine, pinus peuce), 4-5 years, ~ 5-6 cm at the base and the main trunk is reduced to 35-40 cm (excluding new main leader branch). So, I suppose that the practices applied to the japanese counterparts are not applicable in terms of 2 growth spurts a year, right? It's more like a mugo pine?
@ArkefthosBonsai
@ArkefthosBonsai Жыл бұрын
Really love Pinus peuce. It's a five needle pine and it should be treated as the Japanese white pine (Pinus parviflora). All the techniques applicable to parviflora, are equally applicable to peuce. Now, I understand that you have relatively young material, in the early stages of development. At this stage, it's really fine to leave more branches, even if these branches "break" some Japanese rules, like bifurcation. Don't stress about that now, inverse taper takes 3 or years to become prominent. So what I do, is leave more branches, more buds, more foliage in the early stages of development, so that the tree has more energy to develop faster and as you approach a more defined style, a more refined tree, you prune excess branches (before the inverse taper becomes a problem) and you style the pine. You know, inexperienced people trying bonsai hurry to cut back and create when the name of the game is patience. So grow your pines with excess foliage and cut back when they have developed further. My opinion. Thank you Yevhen!

I like your content so much, not just a bonsai artist but your video and editing skills are nice aswell. I only advice you to buy a pointer microphone and a deadcat. The wind and the cars in the background really ruin the feeling! but keep up the good work man cheers

@@ArkefthosBonsai From your experience, which is an easier bonsai pine, the mugo or the sylvestris? I want to try one of them, but I can't decide.
@ArkefthosBonsai
@ArkefthosBonsai Жыл бұрын
Both are quite easy. Sylvestris should develop faster but for that reason it requires better knowledge of the techniques for pine development. Mugo has a more fibrous root system and reacts a little bit better in repotting. Actually you can't go wrong with any of these. I would suggest sylvestris but barely better.
