"Pinwheel" is my one, real memory of Nickelodeon as a kid. In the summer of 1981, when I was six and a half, my family moved to a new state, and our first place there had this new thing called "cable." My Mom discovered this show and Nickelodeon, and had me watching it for a couple of weeks before school began (after which, I was no longer home to watch TV during the day). It was good, and I could tell, but I was already starting to outgrow this kind of children's programming. And a year later, we moved and dropped cable, so I missed most of the rest of Nick's history. I never really accepted Nick's new direction in the mid-80's, and was a little disappointed that they dropped their educational emphasis. For me, Nickelodeon has always been, deep down, the channel that aired "Pinwheel." I'm just glad that someone else remembers.

I remember this and also "You can't do that on Television". I lived with my Grandparents from 79 till 94 who only had a small black and white TV until the late 80's and even though we had the best antenna from Radio Shack, and signal booster we could barely pull in CBS and NBC sometimes if it was storming. There wasn't an option for cable service where we lived. My Father (another town) had cable though and I would see this on sometimes if I was there (Dad was the only one allowed to use the TV though so rarely). I also think that Nickelodeon started to become trash with the introduction of Sponge Bob which many people seem to love. I seen PBS shows a lot more frequently as friends had PBS because they lived north and also on the other side of the ridge where it would "BARELY" come in on an antenna.

Back in the early 80s (born in 1980) I was often at my grandma's house in East Detroit (now known as East Pointe since the early 90s) for 2-3 times a month for 3-4 days and she would always put this on for me to watch followed by Cartoon Express on USA. I'd then go to Kmart (I believe the same Kmart where she got me an NES in 87 is actually still open) with her as it was her favorite place to visit, grocery shopping or hit her sister's bar up for a bit. Then we'd get back and watch horror/scfi movies (she got me into gory horror movies) or random stuff on HBO/Showtime.
