Portal axles and lockers all round will give the Pinz the edge, but the Landy driver is skillful enough to keep up as far as possible. Great video!

Loved watching the old Rover out there getting dirty. They still got it.

Thanks, they sure do. Mine for one has been out getting dirty as recently as this weekend, watch out for a new video coming soon :)

I've owned a number of series Landies and it's always great to see them out in the rough stuff doing their thing. Looks like you were giving it hell and having a great time doing it. Were you running lockers at all? That 6x6 Pinz is a thing of beauty! Would love to find one on my side of the pond. You see the 712M soft-top versions, but the solid radio-body ones are a bit rare (and a 718 diesel is pretty much a unicorn). They're an amazing piece of engineering and are damn near unstoppable off road. Congrats on what must have been a really fun day. Thanks for posting!!

Is this a P93 with 6 cylinder or 5cylinder TDI?

what is the tire pressure of the pinz ?
@78a67h5 жыл бұрын
For a fair comparison the LR should have been fitted with some form of locking diff at least in the rear
@andyb47962 жыл бұрын
Never understood why Defenders didn’t come with locking diffs from the factory

do lower tire pressure help any of those situations?
@harveysmith1005 жыл бұрын
Massively. the Pinz 718 is about the most capably off roader on the planet. Poor technique. Lower the pressures to 18psi and it would walk up those hills.

Can you engage the diff locks while moving on the pinzgauer?

Yup

Peter Clarke Had the chance once to drive a brand new with 1200 miles on the clock. Such an amazing machine, i just couldn't believe how smooth the ride was.
@ortodoxchristian77819 жыл бұрын
Yes. Has for each axle separately. I have a 4x4. I have a lot of experience. As I saw the on video were not used.Much easier to be passed with included rear door locks. In these conditions, the last should be constantly involved.
@harveysmith1005 жыл бұрын
Fully independant suspension rather than solid axles gives the Pinz a smooth ride.
@autoculto76293 жыл бұрын
I've had a fair few 4x4s over the years but the series 3 wasn't that great off road. Best vehicle I had was a daihatsu sport trac. That thing went absolutely anywhere
@TheSlimedshady9 жыл бұрын
the series 10/10 the pinzgauer 3/10 most off road courses I use wouldn't allow that vehicle on site due to the size I am very impressed with them but that seems to be just tearing the ground up or is it just me
@SaintMarneusCalgar6 жыл бұрын
Lol just saying the axle load on the pinz is the same as on a 4x4 maybe even lower its 2.7 tons on 6 weels and 5 meters long your comment does nor make to mutch sense ;)

Pinz is a great tool but you could buy 5 landy's for the price of the transmission.

I'm surprised we did not see the "land roll over" on its roof as they often end up when driven off road.

If these idiots aired down their tires, they would have screwed the forest up less and made it through the obstacles without brining their rubber. Total Tools.
@captainclarke9 жыл бұрын
And exactly how do you know what pressures the tyres were being run at? Thanks for the very polite, informative comment.
@Qwiv9 жыл бұрын
Peter Clarke I don't know the pressure, but you can see that they are deforming very little, so its not enough. They look like they are aired down some, maybe enough to absorb some of the bumps for comfort, but certainly not enough for traction. There are many scenes where a small obstruction is run over and the vehicle bounces up and looses traction. Properly deflating the tires would have allowed them to deform, create traction and assist in forward movement and not tear of the path for the next guy. If you want education, look up how to deflate your tires for off roading on google.
@captainclarke9 жыл бұрын
Qwiv Well thank you for your well researched and informative reply. However I will point out that calling us "idiots", and "total tools" is not appreciated what-so-ever. We are fully aware about tyre deflation, usually I run my own tyres on the Series III at 16psi when being used off road. The Pinzgauer is fitted with run-flat wheels allowing it to run on zero air pressure if required. However, reasons for not doing this was that this was an impromptu visit to a designated off road site, thus damage caused to the said environment is not as greater issue as it is when in more sensitive areas. Also neither of us were carrying a compressor to reinflate our tyres afterwards because we had plenty of road miles to cover. Especially the Pinzgauer where raising the pressures back up for road usage would take a long time without a proper air compressor. Basically, it was a bit of fun so we were not taking things to the extent where getting stuck or failing a climb was a serious issue for not getting to a destination, as alternative routes were aplenty.

Maybe they didn´t have a compressor.....and just let my tell you: I have once pumped up all 6 tyres of a pinzgauer by hand after letting out about 1,5 bar and it had smaller tyres on than this one and that is something you don´t want to do if you don´t totally have to.....i think it took me over an hour
