I had the great ddj sx but for me was to big to bring to the club so i started to look around for a new smaller but good powered option. After a while and too many time invested in my research, my decision was between the ddj rb, the old but still great vci 380 and the powerfull denon mc6000mk2. I left behind the ddj rb because i read many complains about rekordbox issues and im a serato user so i ended choosing the MC6000mk2 and i can not be more happy. I think at the moment the best mobil four channel controller with dvs , video capabilities, great and powerfull dedicated sound card. Best option for my needs! I think all of them are good for specific uses but my best advice is choose what you like n makes you happy!

I feel that the DDJ-SB2 is kinda out of place, its a 4 deck controller, would it not be more able to compare to the Mixtrack platinum since it is a 4 deck controller. I have both the DDJ-RB and the Pro 3 pros and cons to me. Pro 3 has the track seaker at the top, it can also control the affects as well when you hit the TAB button on the top, also the tempo controls are much bigger, cons, no trim controls, i have hit my tempo control when i spin the jog wheel, and the pad at the bottom only has 4 buttons to use, the bottom 4 are for hot cues. The DDJ-RB has the trim controls, an an 8 button pad for samples rather then the 4. also the DDJ-RB has a better sound card compared to the Mixtrack Pro 3. So far i like the DDJ-RB in terms of features over my Pro 3 but i love the Pro 3 for the control bar at the top and for the longer tempo control. these two controllers are really close to each other, its all about how you want to play.

You can actually kind of do an auto loop on the fx channel. Just select "slip loop" and use the beat buttons to make the loop longer or shorter.

I love my RB's converting from Traktor to Rekordbox was a very smooth transition. But Serato is the industry standard. For mobile dh's I recommend rekordbox (RB) for club use the (SB2)

+Prajwal Rao you would have to map the controllerout. I think all the buttons are mappable but I've heard that the jog wheels can't be mapped. If you want to use traktor I'd recommend looking into the S2 or S4 to start with.

The platinum is flawed. I sold my pro 3 and got the platinum, very first impression, heavy and more solid built, LOVED the weight / resistance on the wheels, then i plugged it in and saw the nice screens and ...... REALLY bad buzzing that was not there with my old controller. found it was a very common issue due to the power draw of the additional screens. a week later some of the screen sections stopped working. I sent it back for a replacement but it buzzed even worse. so i sent that back too. now i'm here looking at the pioneer and wanted to see how it compared to my old pro 3. think i'm going to get the pioneer.

Great video :) It's 's not completely true that you need a laptop or computer for these controllers. I've been running my Mixtrack pro 2 through my ipad with the Dj Player pro app (various other apps exist too) for years now. The software is just as good-if not better than serato and at a fraction of the cost. It's saved me hundreds of pounds. Great for beginners or intermediates on a budget if you already own an ipad and can't afford the full serato package and a capable laptop.

I am looking to buy a DDJ SX2! Well before I hvnt used any other controllers. but I hv got my hands on CDJs and I really want to try Serato before I used Rekord box to manage my playlist to usb drive but I am fade up of my tracks disappearing for no good reason from my play list when I reopen it after a week. so I decided to get my self a Controller and I feel I could get much more comfortable with them then the CDJs.

Like to point out some cons with the SB2 he didn’t mention The knobs start to wear out overtime not centering properly The jog wheels will wear out as well and feel a bit cheap Don’t bother 4 channel mixing it’s a disaster The search knob is way too close to the load buttons I’ve accidentally hit them way too many times Other than those It’s a fantastic controller would definitely recommend

+Money Nifemi so you don’t have to buy Serato DJ to use these controllers. The intro version comes free. It’s only if you decide to upgrade the software to unlock more features. You can download Serato DJ intro for free without any equipment but you won’t be able to do anything with it without hardware.

I am looking for a new controller! I use my DDJ-SB for almost 2 years now and practiced a lot. But now i want more features and with the SB2 u can use 4 decks, you can trim and see if u are redlining or not and it's just the newer version of what i have now. With the DDJ-RB it has the nice "que" and 'play' buttons. It comes only with rekordbox what's nice if you have to dj in a club on cdj's, and u can adjust the effects like on dj mixers in a club. But can you go +6 and go WIDE with the pitch faders or not? and wich one is better to go if you have dj experience?

To answer your question on the pitch faders, yes you can go to +-6/10/16 and wide with the DDJ RB. You can also do the same with the other controllers using the complete version of Serato DJ. If you're already using the SB and are comfortable with it then the SB2 would be a natural upgrade. If you move over to Rekordbox know that you will have to re prepare all your hot cues and get familiar with a new software. Saying that however, Rekordbox is an amazing program and the controller allows you to be a lot more creative and perform more advanced techniques so maybe that transition is what you're looking for. The 3rd and 4th decks aren't the best to use on the DDJ SB2 because you have to pull the fader up and down with it only being a 2 channel controller. If you want to mix with 3 or 4 decks I would recommend looking at a controller with 4 channels.

+Trinax11 sorry I maybe didn't phrase that quite right. Yes you can use the sb2 without buying an external soundcard however the RB can take advantage of the laptops internal soundcard so you can route the master out of the laptop speakers. This means you don't necessarily need monitor speakers to be able to play with the DDJ RB. All the controllers here have an RCA master out and don't need an external sound card as well. Sorry for the confusion. Hope that helped.

+Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz not particularly. As they're designed for home use with a small speaker set up none have an amazing soundcard and output level. They all work fine but there is a noticeable difference if you jump up to something like the DDJ RR or equivalent.

Thanks for the interesting video! I'm trying to make a decision on my first DJ controller purchase. What I find tricky is comparing older vs newer controllers in the same price range. I was wondering if you had any advice on how these newer controllers compared to the Hercules RMX 2, which I'm thinking of purchasing?

Hey, so we haven't been hands on with the Hercules RMX 2 personally so can't give the best comparison. The benefit the Hercules has over these units is that it can be used with external CDJ's or turntables as it's a standalone unit also with separate channel inputs. It also has a balanced XLR output which is better is hooked up to a club soundsystem. As far as performance features go it offers up pretty similar one's to the other intro controllers in this comparison, so you can still get creative with it. One of the things that i'm personally not the biggest fan of is having the FX built into the pad modes so you have to swap between hot cue, loops and effects rather than have separate controls to turn your effects on and off. Still this is only a minor issue.

+Sub Skrill You can successfully perform a backspin on a most equipment if you keep in control of the jog wheel while doing it and control the speed of it. However if you’re aiming to just spin the jog wheel and let go it won’t go very far on the RB compared to the cdjs. Not enough weight behind it.

+James Stha like we said in the video they're both great for different reasons. If you're deciding between those two then have a bigger look into the software. Serato vs rekordbox. The serato dj intro version is a much simpler program to use if you're a beginner dj but know that you will have to upgrade and spend money at some point to get that full version. Rekordbox has so much built in to it but can be confusing for new Dj's. At the same time though if you're looking to take DJing seriously and plan to stick with it the RB and rekordbox would be a great match, purely for all the extra features. We have online courses for both controllers available. These would be perfect if you're struggling once you get started, or need some help learning to DJ with either. I am thinking about buying one from the the DDJ-SB2, DDJ-RB or DDJ-RR. I'm pointing more towards the SB2 or RB due to budget issues. I know that the RR is great, but I don't need to use my controller as a stand-alone mixer. I have also some issues about the cueing on the RB as there is no cue/master knob as on the other two. I normally mix using my headphones and not through the monitors. Does the master interefere a lot with headphones level on the RB? As regards the SB2 and as a mac user, I found some complications on the controller not being recognised by the El Capitan OSX on macs. Was this problem resolved? And what about this problem on the RB?

+Milo MHL you can manage with intro no problem but it is limited as far as dj softwares go. Once you decide to start using more performance features or even record your sets you will need to upgrade. As far as soundcards go they all have a soundcard that is able to send audio to a master out RCA. But none have any inputs. The RB is the only one that can use your laptops soundcard to split the audio from the headphones and master. Unless you decide to use virtual dj which can do that with all 3 I think. (Haven't tested personally).

+Allan Muganhiri so the DDJ RB always starts in vinyl mode. You can assign a shortcut key within the software by going to the rekordbox settings. Clicking keyboard. Opening up the deck you want to switch vinyl mode off. Navigate down to 'vinyl mode' shortcut and assign a keyboard shortcut. Hope this helps.

Hey! thanks for this video, mate. I am a budding DJ, i have done a DJ course on hardware and want to explore more and try playing for private or corporate parties. I was speculating between SB2 & RB, was in a dilemma for over a week now. I stumbled on to this video and this has answered my questions in a better way and I have ordered DDJ RB for myself now. While i know that there is a Rekordbox software which comes along with the controller and I learnt from your video that these controller will work with virtual DJ software. The DDJ RB works with Virtual DJ 8 however you will need a specific license. Either the pro infinity, pro subscription or plus DDJ RB controller license. It should map out pretty much the same however we haven’t tested it specifically on virtual Dj so can’t say how it exactly maps out. +Akinkunmi Cook were. It having any issues with the current version. I've been using it on a MacBook so can't speak for windows in particular. Rekordbox are very fast at bringing out updates too if anything needs changing.

Hey! I’m just about to buy my very first gear, for which I’m thinking of the new SB3. However, I’d like to know whether these small decks can be connected to bigger speakers or not, because I don’t want it for home practice (I mean only) Do you know anything about it?

The output is RCA so you can get various cables that will connect to bigger sound systems from an RCA cable. It depends on your speaker set up really.

Excelent video, but i'been looking that "Numark Mixtrack Platinum " it's actually at the same price than DDJ-RB , can you tell me if i it's better than the others? thank you

+Ivo Mele I would still group the platinum in the Numark category. Yes it's basically an upgraded version of the mixtrack pro 3. They have made the interface on the hardware more user friendly by shifting the eqs and adding a display to the centre of the jog wheels. It still ships with serato dj intro not the complete version but you can access up to 4 decks on it. Still remember there are only two channels though so it will problem a tricky task to do anything worthwhile with decks 3 & 4.

Bro I am used to with Virtual dj sftware. So what is the compatible dj controller for the beginner with virtual dj?

Nearly all enrty level controllers are compatible with Virtual DJ. All of these included!

Can anyone help me out? I'm considering to buy the Djay pro software with spotify integration, so it doesn't really matter if the ddj rb comes with the full version of rekordbox, since i'm not going to use it. It is still a good option? Or does the others offer more, when it comes to hardware? From the research i've done, they should all be compatible with the djay pro software, so that's not a problem

The RB works as long as you’re using a Mac not windows. Apparently... The others work on both OS.

Well they are now all supported with Virtual DJ. I would jump to say that the DDJ RB has access to more features right there on the controller compared to the other two meaning I would edge toward that controller even though the tempo adjust is very small. You would then have the complete version of Rekordbox as well in case you ever decided to switch software. Just remember the points between the 3 different controllers made in this video pretty much apply to virtual DJ as well.

+Tejas Vij hi there. We haven't done a comparison on those units. Something to bare in mind though is that they're pretty different down to the fact one is a stand alone unit and can be used solely with usb's and the other is a huge controller which needs a laptop to work. The RZX has way way way more features but it's huge and not as transportable as the RX. The RZX is great if you're looking to start VDJ'ing as it's built with that in mind. Were there any questions in particular you wanted answering?

Thanks for writing back. I wanted to make I have a future proof hardware and size isn't the concern. Which of the 2 should be future proof. Also, I do know the standard diff of one being usb dependent and other totally independent. How much these cost ?

+Tejas Vij talking about it being future proof we are almost certain Pioneer will be releasing the next model of the XDJ RX very soon. Could be something to hold out for. As far as the rekordbox software goes the RZX is the king of it. You can literally access every single feature that's in the software right there on the controller. Plus it's got those on board displays which are great. This all makes it pretty future proof as the rekordbox software isn't going to drastically change its features overnight, and if they did this controller has enough features for it to handle any changes. The XDJ RX feels quite limited compared to this controller however the price tag matches that. In the U.K. The XDJ RX is £1319 and DDJ RZX is £2869 so a huge difference in price there.

Bro I checked on Amazon for mixtrack pro 3, it also comes with no RCA output. How to do the connection in that case? I mean do I need to have some extra audio interface for sound output?

That will be just the Mixtrack 3. The Mixtrack Pro 3 has an rca master output.

I went a DJ store recently and the guy recommended me the DDJ RB instead of the DDJ SB2 because the DDJ RB has more features compared to DDJ SB2. So forget DDJ SB2 according to the guy at the store but what about Trektor S2 vs DDJ RB rekordbox? PS I'm a beginner

This would stem down to the software to be honest. Traktor and Rekordbox are both great pieces of software. The S2 is a very solid controller with all the features you need as a beginner. Personally I prefer Rekordbox software even down to the fact that its well supported and Pioneer are constantly working on it. The only benefit I would say Traktor have over Rekordbox is that if you're a producer all the Native Instruments equipment works really well with Traktor so building up to some form of live set with extra musical elements is better and easier to set up using Traktor.

Yes they do all work with Virtual DJ now as well. Up until recently the DDJ RB didn't so you may have to make sure you have the latest version of virtual DJ if you buy the DDJ RB.
