Pioneer DJ DJM-A9 - Should you upgrade ?

In this video I'm going to give my thoughts about whether you should sell your 900 Nexus 2 and buy the new mixer or just keep yours.

A9 is definitely the way to go! Phantom power, double cue, buttons for fx channel selection instead of rotary, better sound quality, nicer X Pad..!! This upgrade is welcome!

a9 is definitely worth it IF sound quality is #1 on your list. Just basing it on recorded sets alone, there is a significant jump in comparison to nxs2. Sounds similar to a v10 to me. I dare say it can hang with modern boutique rotaries like condesa, isonoe, resor, ars. I can't believe we can finally say a pioneer mixer sounds good, let alone two. Granted if you're using budget active monitors (rokits, hs7, jbl 305p) at home, your money is being wasted on the a9. Just swoop in on a cheap nxs2 on the used market, plenty of people dumping those right now.

Guys new gear don’t make u a better Dj..there are 10yr old gears that does the same thing just few new features for the new gears

The only reason why i'm probably not going to upgrade my NXS2 is because Pioneer wants you to use the latest version of Serato and if you don't have a beefy computer to run the newest version of Serato, then it's not worth it. You'll definitely need a brand new M1/M2 Macbook Pro

Just bought a NXS2 to replace my original NXS. Definitely seems like a bigger difference between those two mixers than these two

I think they missed the boat. For the difference in price, you still can’t use effects on multiple channels at once, and they should have included an isolator even if it was digital in settings, and a compressor on the output. Do people really care about effects on mic’s?

@thedjlab Just got a brand new a9 and the Orange headphone que Buttons on the right channel side channel 3+4+master, are lose and make a strange klicking sound. They also can be shifted left and right and seem to fit not perfectly. The ones on the left side are tight and sound normal when pushed. Is this on your a9's aswell and just poor production quality? or should i send it back?

If there's any "audiophiles" here, I would love to hear your thoughts on the sound quality differences between the two? Especially when it comes to the phono preamps. Coming from a DJM-900NXS I've been looking to upgrade for a while now. It's either a second hand NXS2 or the A9.

V10 is the best

Down to mixing style/genre. V10 is more suited to long mixes/layering/etc. - 4 band eq, 3/4 turn high OR low filter, 60mm faders on LF version are perfect for slow, precise mixing styles. The A9 is a all-around mixer, 3 band eq and high and low filter, 'short' faders are suited to a wider range of mixing styles.Playing progressive house/meodic techno I personally prefer the V10LF, but it's a 'love and hate' mixer. Loved for some, useless for others.

The V-10... You get proper send and returns like an Alen and Heath mixer + filters that sweep all the way from the left to right. Real, short and long delays/Reverb that you can send to individual channels. A 3 band isolater on that master. A9 is gimmicky, effects on a mic, Bluetooth (can you play that song off my phone?) locks on a filter for DJs that crank the filter, a babysitting app for DJs that don't know the basics/ stay out of the reds. Other than the send return and improved sound card. Which most will not be able to hear the difference on a small home system and that's where half of these will end up. I hate to say it but the mixer has been a let down for me. Pioneer just added a few gimicky add ons like auto makers do to new cars so they can bump the price up over the NXS2. Plus the A9 is less than an inch in width of a V10. That's a huge foot print for a 4 channel mixer.

it’s a tough call. i use my nxs2 mainly at home, but the a9 🤤 but then at $4,300 cad (w tax) ouch.

No a9 yet... but preview will work...it's just cue

Glad I stuck with my DJM-2000nxs for as long as I have. The upgrade to the A9 will be night and day in respect to sound quality and features. When comparing the A9 to the V10, the A9 seems to be the more practical choice. I really wish Pio had a more functional CDJ as the 3000 is crippled by the lack of online integration. Total BS on Pio's part. Looks like it will by an A9 and my SC6000s!
