Just got one of these today. I don’t play gigs anymore but was an active drum & bass DJ for 20 odd years. I quit mixing for a few years and bought a cheap Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX during Covid and rediscovered my love for mixing tunes. I’ve been wanting to upgrade to a more professional Pioneer setup for a while but it was hard to justify the outlay when I have no intention of getting back in the club circuit. The thing is awesome. Most of my years DJing were on vinyl or timecode Traktor Scratch / laptop combo. Never had a home pioneer setup before but this was the perfect unit for me. Don’t need 4 channels or inputs for decks as I haven’t owned my own decks in 2 decades. Until now the only time I’ve ever played on pioneers regularly was in the late CDJ1000 / early CDJ2000 era while still playing out. As this unit has a lot of new unfamiliar controls from the CDJ3000 & newer mixers than I’ve used before, this concise and informative walkthrough will be most useful. Thanks!

Hello! When creating a memory cue, I see a red bar countdown on the left side of the player (Where you see the key of the song) for the deck where my mem cue was set while also the mem button sets the pointer where the cue was saved. I don't know if this is what you're looking for, let me know.@@EExgle

I use a DDJ800. Still love it after 2 years…. I really like the look of this unit & I do feel as a stand-alone it does a great job. After watching this video (Twice) I’m kinda jelly now…. Hey Phil, thanks a lot for the tutorial! I learned some things that I did not know this unit could do by watching the entire thing. There is one point that you mentioned in your guide that is incorrect. It is NOT required to have a second USB drive to record your DJ set. USB 2 is the only slot from which you can record your sets, but if you put your music USB drive into slot 2 you can play your tracks and record your set from there simultaneously while only using 1 USB drive. This only works with the USB 2 slot but not with the USB 1 slot. I like this unit overall, but I cant help but be annoyed at the fact that on this huge screen you can only select one extra parameter for the track information when browsing your playlists. Other than the track title, you can only choose ONE extra field to display the artist or the bpm when it could easily all fit in there. The only way to display all track information is to use the info button, but by doing so you need to change your focus multiple times while the information you want displayed should be customisable. Also the lack of simple features such as a bar count on the display is a bit disappointing. This unit, to me, feels like amazing quality outdated machinery.

@@zappers1000 Coming from Traktor on a laptop (and still using it plenty) I do feel there is a need for more info to be available onscreen while selecting tracks. A bit more of depth in this regard would make losing the laptop so much easier.

Hi Phil. You are my go-to on product reviews at the moment. There are literally hundreds of KZbin videos that do reviews and tutorials on dj equipment. Some are great and most are so annoying! With yourself, it doesn’t feel biased it feels comprehensive and honest. I myself own a DDJ 400, which is where I started my hobby. I now own a DDJ-800 and am looking to upgrade again soon to a standalone piece. I love Pioneer gear (obviously) and use Rekordbox. However, I also like the look of the new Denon Prime 4+. So many features for a fraction of the price that Pioneer can’t match. Onboard storage, analyse on the fly, streaming (I know Beatport is now featured by Pioneer), 4 channel standalone. I do like the look of the SC6000’s though, cos you get a free LC6000. Only the mixer to buy then you have 4 channels using 2 CDJ’s! However, it’s not Pioneer and that name is all over the clubs and party establishments. I’m seriously considering the XDJ-RX3, which has only 2 channels I know but, would be my first standalone and a piece of kit for sure! Great channel Phil, keep up the great work. Andy Mac. 👍🏼

Andy, if you think you are going to use other people’s Pioneer gear eg in clubs, it makes sense to stick with them. If not, Denon is better value.

Quick question! I see how to import my settings from my usb to the rx3. But how do you save those settings from the rx3 onto the usb to play on other gear like cdjs or another rx3? Are those changes automatically saved? Also separate question for anyone who can answer. On my rx3 I made several changes to beatgrids and added hot cues and want to import them into my main library. When I plug my usb into rekordbox and, when syncing, hit the left arrow to transfer the grid and cues those changes do not show up in the main collection. Am I missing something? Thanks

@@digitaldjtips I tried an XZ this weekend in a live situation and found it to be a bit more limiting in regards to the pad section while looping and beat jumping. I mix mostly house, don't scratch and just want to make sure I can mix smoothly one track into the next. And while I have only played around with my RX3 during a few home sessions, playing live on the XZ for the first time made me feel like like my hands were somewhat tied. Maybe ignorance on my part, as you can probably get away with straight up mixing on both units. But the RX3 just felt much more intuitive after a bit of getting into it. I come from Traktor, and depend a lot on looping into and out of specific sections of a track, as well as juggling my loops around in case they are off. I can understand the "more complete" part of the XZ, but I still wouldn't underestimate all the improvements that the RX3 seems to offer (at least) in the transport section. Again, Im a noob on both for now. Great video, really appreciate it! Thanks again!

GEMINI isn't as bad as you can think; before TECHNICS 1200 MK2's; my 1st PAIR were GEMINI PT 2000'S; I haven't found space to TEST the 'XDJ-RX3'; However GEMINI MDJ-500's play WAVE (NTFS format) and KEY LOCK 🔒; However difficult to organize your LIBRARY; FINDING FOLDER; XDJ-RX3 (LARGE TOUCHSCREEN DISPLAY) 😂; LOOKING FORWARD TO TRYING IT; I JUST CANNOT STOP LISTENING TO MUSIC 🎶 ❤; and I JUST LISTEN (UNFOCUSED on STUDIO SETUP); However have 'PLANNED DJ SETS IN MY HEAD (then constantly change them) *and still haven't made the them *perhaps CREATING 'PLAYLISTS' will stop me GOING INSANE too many 'SONG TO PICK'; VINYL IS MORE SIMPLE; LIKE 'BASKING ROBBINS 'ICE CREAM ' TOO MANY FLAVOURS; CANNOT MAKE A DECISION 🤔 😂

Thanks for the video loved it! Additional info from my side: You can bypass needle lock by just touching the jog wheel (vinyl area) . Then you can "scroll" the track by touching the wave form like it is pause mode. Btw. can you give any information about the "matching" part in the browse area? For me this list is always empty. I was hoping to get a key and bpm filtered list of the current playlist.

I really love how Pioneer is developing gears for the DJ industry. And their price is not too much expensive given the fact that they produce good quality products with lotta features. However I do have a gripe with this RX3, well basically 2 things I dislike. (1) the placement of the USB drive. Looks like its an invitation for my USB stick to be broken when I decide to act the fool while mixing.... (2) the screen mannnn. I like the idea that its large but it doesn't look favirable for storing and transporting. Maybe Odyssey propably already have a case for it.

USBs have always been in that position - you can buy really small ones though so that would largely solve the problem. I agree that having them more "hidden" would be better. Screen is robust, that won't be a problem.

Mainly i bought theae controller because i can use serato and reckordbox plus the usb as backup, want to get familiar with BOTH dj program as we don't know what direction pioneer will go with serato

Thinking of getting one to take out to gigs save having to faff disconnecting my CD3000’s. On the 3000’s when you are looking at playlists on the right hand side columns it displays the key and BPM. All of the videos on the RX3 playlists this doesn’t show??

If this unit had WIFI capabilities I would ditch my Denon Prime 2. The RX3 is a great unit.

I noticed the RX3 doesn't have that 'EXTENDED ECCO'; Like the DJM-400; If Playing the 'WRONG-SIDE (non-vacal);??? Use the 'LONEST ECCO'; the 'FLIP VINYL TO VOCAL SIDE'; Adjust ECCO (shorter&shorter).... NICE DELAY ❤

Thank you very much Phil for making this video. Super instructive to use my RX3 to its full potential! I really admire the quality of the production and the clarity of your explanations. By any chance, could you give me your opinion on an issue I have with this unit? I bought an entry level usb drive 64gb from PNY for 10 GBP and the XDJ-RX3 has frozen several times during a set at home. The only thing I could do was to turn off the unit and turn it back on again. The only reasons I found online regarding this are that either the usb is not good enough (too slow or incompatible with the unit) or that my library contains bad/corrupt files, either with missing data or wrong tags. However the solution is not really clear. Have you ever experienced this? I have ordered a new sandisk extreme pro and will test it when it arrives. Thank you in advance!

First thing to do is see if the Sandisk fixed it. If it does, job done! Also make sure you’re on the latest firmware for the RX3.

Sorry new-by here, why when you spin the jog wheel the track stays in that position, in mine, when I release the wheel. it always return to the beginning of the track
