I can only cry when I see those. I used to own a pair (new ones) for about 20 years. The foam was rotten of course. And moving out of my house I couldn't take them with me. They ended up ... (you don't want to know). Best pair of speakers I ever had. Great work!

Those were made here in Portugal. I worked in the factory. The factory has closed now. But there were several brands of speakers made here. Mission, Acoustic Research, Mordaunt-Short and, of course, Pioneer, just to name a few.

Great Job! HPM's are very interesting. On a quality tube rig they are mind blowing. I thought that solid state would have been the preferred power but on a good tube set up I couldn't believe my ears. We were comparing them to a much higher end speakers that completely out classed them (and should have for the price), yet when we switched amps to tubes these speakers destroyed speakers many times their price point. Synergy is a big deal. Great video, thanks for sharing

Thank you for your comments, that's really interesting observation, I have never tried them with tube gear although I have more than dozen Pioneer tube machines. I've played them with SX1250, SPEC1&4 and SA-8800, they sound best with SPEC. Definitely have to try!

Surprisingly HPM150 don't sound bad even in hifi therms. My favourite pioneer speakers would be HPM-100 however as they are also happy to provide casual listening and are more compact.

I have a pair of vintage Sansi 12 inch speakers from the 1970s. Same era of these. They have the 3X7 inch horn loaded compression tweeter with L-Pads on the front. Normal and high settings. The cabinets are a little banged up and the sharp corners are dinged from years of moving. The casters are a good idea. Keeps them isolated from the floor and are much easier to move around. I'm gonna get the trapizoid cabinets from parts Express and rebuild them into those new cabinets. I'm gonna use the old ports and cross overs. I have to replace the 5 inch mid range drivers cause they were poked by my son's finger when he was a baby. But they are still the best sounding and highest output of sound and bass I've ever heard. Very high sensitivity. But they can still take a couple hundred watts of power. I'm gonna install real wood veneer on the cabnets. They remind me of the JBL L-100s.

I have HPM 100s and I can't believe how cheaply they are made. Absolute minimal crossover... just single caps on the tweeter and mid and the tiniest coil on the woofer. No internal bracing and magnets are the size of checkers. The mid driver actually behaves like a tweeter because it crosses over at 3khz. It's essentially a two way system with three tweeters.

Nicely done! I’m getting a set of these tomorrow and I’m gonna use this DIY process. Question: if Inwanted to make a solid walnut cabinet using half blind dovetail joinery, would there be any drawbacks? I know in the guitar/bass speaker cab world, there are some things to watch out for. My entire system is being re-housed in solid walnut enclosures/racks etc. Thanks for your time and a great video series!

i think they are the problem, one used to scream at me and i only turn up the volume till i only watched her mouth moves without any sound coming of, the second loved the loud sound then when inside after 4 monthes she used to tell me "use the phones my head is hurting" but with a smooth voice ,a year after again ,turning up the volume till only saw her mouth moves so no woman compatible, i know some but they are crazy mad so doesn´t count, i sold everything and bought what they call now bookshelf speakers ,regards

where those clarity caps not to much ,..?.I have used them already ,and in some speakers , especially the ones with old tweeter technology they tend to sound a bit to sharp, paper in oil capacitors tend to work better , and they don't need to be expensive ones. (no critic just my experience), Nice job.

мало того, что из баллона красил, так еще и перед лаком. лак наносится одном направлении по волокон древесины. шлифуется либо машинкой круговыми движениями, либо в ручную по направлению волокон вверх-вниз. не надо хаотично возить наждак по детали.
