navydiving very nice... I just refurbished a Marantz model 6170 and waiting for a Pioneer PL-514 to get here... Just bought it on eBay... Hoping it just needs a belt ant cleaning

where can you purchase the veneer with the glue. I have a pl550 that was already done but fedex damaged two of the corners so I have to redo!

I got mine at Windsor Plywood here in Victoria: www.google.ca/maps/@48.4464176,-123.5069081,92m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en If you are not in Victoria I suspect that you could find some at any woodworking finishing store. You might even get lucky and find some at Home Depot or Lowe's but usually the selection is not as good as at a specialty store.

It looks very nice now. I covered it with natural veneer PL 117. I have a question, how did you remove the stickers?
@navydiving3 жыл бұрын
I used a heat gun. Do not overheat or they will darken😉
@homerward8203 Жыл бұрын
I have a pl 112d pioneer and I am putting new wood veneer I used a blow dryer to heat the badge up and used a painter 5 in 1 tool to pry the badge off. There's 2 nipples that are glued into the holes. It's very easy to do. But heat it up so it don't break.
@MrTopsoil9116 жыл бұрын
Can sticky shelp paper work as well?? They also come in simulated wood design? Im trying to restore my Pioneer PL112D
@navydiving6 жыл бұрын
You can use whatever you want but nothing looks better than real wood IMHO
@SinnerSince1962 Жыл бұрын
@@navydiving Some of the marine grade vinyl is really nice. It's hard to tell it's not wood. For instance, Yamaha used in on their receivers, tuners, and amps in the late 70's. Before I actually purchased one of those, I always thought it was real wood.
@homerward8203 Жыл бұрын
You can use that I did on my 112d but decided to go with the wood veneer it just looks so better.

I would have disassembled the plinth before veneering it.

If I was getting paid by the hour I might have done the same thing.
@decosse014 жыл бұрын
Have to agree - especially on that particular deck, it did not look like much work to remove the plinth completely. Still, can't really argue with the results with the process used.

Hey I have the same turntable, I connected it to power to see if everything was ok (but not to the whole set up yet) but the "plate" doesn't start spinning as soon as I turn it on. Is it because it's not connected to anything else? What do I do? (Sorry but I just got into turntables and vinyls recently and I'm slowly starting to learn)
@navydiving2 жыл бұрын
first thing I would check is the belt... probably needs replacing. Usually an east fix
@SinnerSince1962 Жыл бұрын
Firstly, stop calling it "vinyls". 😘
@Tomica12074 жыл бұрын
Just a small note, you could just easily pull up plastic cover and remove it from the rest of the turntable. No need to fix it with tape, it is removable, no screws or anything.
@navydiving4 жыл бұрын
I know this to be true. I wanted to use it for protecting the tonearm from knocking it about unnecessarily and/or damaging the bearings in the arm😉
@SinnerSince1962 Жыл бұрын
@@navydiving I was thinking the same thing. I believe I would have covered the entire dust cover with Frog tape, just so nothing can scratch the lid during the process.

I took mine apart before I veneered the bottom.
@navydiving6 жыл бұрын
Veneer the bottom? Why?
@fastfreddy7826 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, I meant the lower half of the sides of the plinth, the same area that you veneered. Looks very good by the way. The 510 is a great table.
@navydiving6 жыл бұрын
Thank you - gave it to my brother as a birthday gift. He is really enjoying it.
@TheTerracide3 жыл бұрын
Why didnt you veneer all the plastic? That way it would be just awesome.
@navydiving3 жыл бұрын
Any way you look at it, it is still just a $100 turntable. Probably why I didn't inlay it with diamonds. Gave the turntable away a long time ago😉
@TheTerracide3 жыл бұрын
@@navydiving there is no diamond-inlay? That would have made it awesome! Seriously though you are right,

Why he wouldn't show the ironing and the trimming process I don't understand. just showing the finished process don't help none. It's a fine job just don't show how to do it.
