Speaking as a hobby machinist, the mathematical calculations (found in machinists little black book) needed to design the gear take time, not just physical time, but the time it took to learn the craft in the first place, has a cost to it. When you take your car for repair, the labor cost you are paying is for the technicians experience, not just their time alone. Most trades these days, whether you're a machinist, mechanic, plumber or electrician is around a $120 an hour. So with all that in mind, the price of the gear shouldn't be materials cost only, you're paying for their experience and know of software engineering (g coding etc) in order to get that printer to have produced that gear.

I’m literally fixing this same thing right now on a PL-570x. Found a replacement gear on eBay, from a link on an old Reddit thread…. Comes from Poland. It’s metal. Waiting for it to arrive.

Wow Sr ..you have helped me so much ...I started repair on my PL-570 5 years ago.. I could never find the problem ..Today i saw your video .On the motor problem.. I rushed to take it apart ..and sure enough ..this thing is bad ..all glued up .Looks like some body has added mapple sirup..And yes a cracked gear with missing teeth in several places ...Thanks ..Now i know i am in big trouble

no I don't think it's expensive at all, if you think about it he has to assemble it with the spindle probably are not in high demand you probably lucky if he sells 3 a year. i can't imagine many are sold the time effort and you got to clean a cog as well you can't really use it straight from the printer I believe.
