You have done a excellent job here, I don’t think it could be done any better, it looks like a factory job. It is refreshing to see someone do a modification to such a high standard.

what an impressively performed modification, brilliant job. i’m a bit of a perfectionist myself, and, like you, i dont perform any mods that don’t look like they were done from the factory. The way you designed and created that plate actually would have anyone believing that receiver came from pioneer the way made it. I’m looking to do this myself on a newer, but still vintage Pioneer SX-V400 from 1985. The Bose speakers its mated to use a pretty common terminal cup, so I can have them done for just a few bucks and a few minutes of my time. What’s really holding me up, however, is that I kinda want to get rid of my receiver for its big brother, the one I was hunting down originally when I got the V400: the SX-V900, the top of the line AV receiver also from 1985, and, along with the V400, the last of the SX-V line before Pioneer went all-in on surround sound AV receivers in 86 with the VSX-5000. being a somewhat tedious mod, I don’t see much of a desire to do it twice. But considering I’m not sure when I’ll be able to find and replace my receiver with the one I’m hunting for, I might get impatient and get started anyway. I guess Itll be some “practice” for later, so when I do get what I want, I’ll have some experience... I guess that’s one way i can look at it

Nice update for a trusty bit of kit! I have a 90's Onkyo amplifier I need to do this for. It has a screw-tightening kind of binding post that won't accept standard 4mm banana plugs so I plan to do this type of mod. All the best, Rob in Switzerland

I hope I can find a terminal like this already made. Great work on yours, looks like it came from the factory that way.

Mike I know this is an old video but could you let us know if the new banana posts changed the sound or sonic signature of the SX-1050 ? Also since living with it for awhile would you make or suggest any changes? Thanks, Glen

You mentioned a link to where you got the terminals. Would you please post. Also how did you make the black plate you used to mount the terminals. Great job! A question, we all go to the trouble of spending too much on our speaker wire and once it's connected to the terminal the receiver uses those small wires too get the signal out to the terminals. Do you see any advantage to upgrading those wires back to the power?

how much would you charge just to make another one of these and send it to me for my sx-1050? this is a top-flight upgrade, but i have no tools to modify the plastic before inserting the new terminals.

Great video. I've decided today, since I no longer have any space to work on things, is to get a banana to banana adapter, if such a thing exists, and then pinch the end of the adapter to fit into the old small spring loaded clips. Since I cannot find a banana to clip adapter. Yes, I know I'll have less surface area connecting if I use those clips...but right now...no choice. Plus, it keeps the 1977 Marantz as it is. (and my cables were custom made and I'm not altering them......by the way, last year I had a pre DTS Harmon Kardon theater amp as a gift, which did have banana plugs, and it sounded as good as my recent Luxman, Odyssey, and even my tube amps. Now that receiver is around for $150. I was stunned by the sound, and I think because an amp like that delivered a lot of power to two speakers, (a pair of Paradigm Mini Monitors), I got the best product from those speakers. And I've have Sonus Faber Cremonas in that same room. I think it's all about power now.

Amazing piece of work Ray! I was based at RAF Mildenhall as a helicopter mechanic many years ago; lived in Ely in the Midlands. Do you have any details you could share on your masterpiece? I have the same receiver and would love to retrofit it with the same. Thanks for your incredible work!

Hi Craig. Thanks for your compliment. This was a long time ago and I had a lathe and mill which I used to make the plate but I no longer have. However, you’ve inspired me to do the same to my current amp SX-1250 which has the same speaker terminal arrangement so I’m assuming the same sizes etc. I’ll make sure and post drawings, sizes etc and parts I’ve used. Mike

@@1884mray Hi Mike. I own a SX-1250 and would like to copy what you've done here. Its an excellent modification by you in my opinion. The spring clips are really a glaring weakness for these classic receivers. Would you have any dimensions for the plate you machined? And would you have a link or part # to the binding posts you purchased?

What was the diameter of the terminal holes you drilled? I'm waiting for mine in the mail, but I'm going to 3d print the plate and I'm working on the model now. Thanks!
