At 6:14 the Vf of 1.13 Volts indicates a Darlington transistor, 2 Vbe voltage drops. Indeed, when you look it up, it is a Darlington, not just a single transistor.

Good video. I'm surprised the electros didn't need replacement with the age of the unit. I love the old receivers from the early 70s to early 80s. They changed looks when they went from linear dials of the 70s to digital readouts of the 80s. Anything from the late eighties onward were just black mono-blocks, with red or blue digital numbers and no character. Receivers in the 90s were so much the same, you'd have to look three times to work out what brand they were.

I've got one of these guys in my antique stereo section in my living room. I made the mistake of leaving the power button on on this unit years ago for an extended time maybe a month I didn't realize it and the output audio was terrible so I had to take and have some work done on it it's fine now.

This is a great video. I inherited my dad's unit and the left channel power amp fuse keeps blowing immediately. The shop said it is most likely the audio output transistors have shorted and it would require a rebuild and they don't have time for it. Do you have any advice or videos on how to fix that?

I repaired one simliar to this it came from a scholl and they had removed the volume controll and placed it inside the machine with some wires running to it. I can imagine som kid turning the volume to Max and they where any good idea to stop this from happening a yeah we can put volume controll inside the machine and have the screws removed i think its really silly solution when the could have locked the amp in a cabinet you can lock. I did put the volume wheel back and now its fixed i also foundsome new screws for it so now its restored.

Bought mine in 1971 and just hooked it up again after many years at least 25. I'm getting a lot of loud static even with the volume turned down. Any ideas? Probably needs a good cleaning. Thanks for the video!

Clean all the pots and switches with DeOxit D5 and see if that removes the static. Get back to me!

@@norcal715 Got the Deoxit yesterday and did a quick spray on the pots I can reach. The worst for static was the balance and the bass adjustments. It seems to have cleared it up a bit but will do another round of sprays today. Also it seems the left channel drops in and out and has lower volume. Phono and Aux inputs seem ok and the tuner will pull in some channels. Thanks again! Also get a loud crack when you select a speaker pushbutton A & B.

What’s the power resistor’s purpose? And at what temp would be concerning for that transistor? Thanks
@norcal7155 жыл бұрын
Just a voltage drop so the transistor does not do all the dropping. Less heat on the transistor.
@BigEightiesNewWave4 жыл бұрын
I'd put some 120mm fans in it. Even a 140. Too much heat. Needs air-flow.

Do you hear a speaker relay click? Worth it is very subjective, Your receiver looks to be from the early-mid 90's. It may not be worth too terribly much now unless you find the right person. Not working I would say $40-80. Working perfectly $ 100-200
