Grammy nominated composer and musician Steve Roach has sensed the music of life even as a small boy. Inspiration drawn from experiential sensations and nature have fueled an incredible and vast body of compositions. His music is mostly known as “ambient” or “new age” but he doesn’t like to categorize it.
Immerse yourself with me and Steve Roach as we explore the sound realms of this phenomenal composer and musician.

Steve's music is a whole new experience of sound, it's a cosmic force capable of reconnecting the listener with his true essential nature providing a protecting shell against the toxic and inauthentic mental environment we're forced to live in, to me his music is as important as water or sleep

I started listening to the music of Steve Roach in the mid 1990's on my local radio station, running Hearts Of Space. I became enthralled by the ebbs and flows of sound, the structures, how sounds overlay on top of others, etc. I was drawn to those pieces without beat/drums. Some time after, I thought to myself, "I would love to create my own ambient music". A lot of that was due to the influences of Steve Roach. It wasn't until much later in my life that I began a fledgling attempt of my own using a relatively inexpensive Roland keyboard and a DAW to piece it all together. I've learned that it takes many years of creating ambient music that really speaks to people and being a beginner, I have found the creation to be exciting and rewarding, even though I have much to learn as a beginner. I do it mostly for myself. I don't have anything for sale. And I do recognize how difficult it is to break out of a similar sound [which many of my projects fall victim to]. I'm working to branch off and create new sounds all the time. I'm always dumbfound at the hardware Steve Roach has acquired over his many years of creating. I hope to expand as well, but I think it will probably always be a fraction of his collection. hehe Thank you, Steve, for taking us all on such amazing journeys of sound and thought. I always look forward to your next projects. David

The Mastery in Steve Roach's music is realized in its profound impact upon his devotees' lives, and the sheer weight of goodness he has done for people...even the world. If there was ever a "Lifetime Achievement" award for the greatest good done for all men, it is the one that awaits Steve Roach. He himself can't know what he has done for me, and if I was ever to have the honor of shaking his hand, I'd embarrass myself by weeping in gratitude.

I've been listening to Steve's music since the early 90s but this is the first time I've seen him speak. He seems just as awesome as I thought he would be. Thanks for transporting me all around the universe from my listening room Steve. I think I've probably played Dreamtime Return more than any other album in my collection but they are all great. As a guy who is very much into the digital aspect of things it's very cool to see all the analog gear. Steve's music has been the soundtrack to much of my life.

He who knows his soul knows this truth: " I am beyond everything finite; I I now see that the Spirit, alone in a space with Its ever-new joy, has expressed Itself as the vast body of nature. I am the stars, I am the waves, I am the Life of all, I am the laughter within all hearts, I am the smile on the faces of the flowers and in each soul. I am the Wisdom and Power that sustain all creation. "

Excellent. I love the way Steve translates his inner realm into language and soundworlds. Very gracious and authentic. I'm 64. I love heavy guitar-oriented blues, prog, progressive metal, Beatles, and the list goes on. But the artist I "own" the most pieces from is Steve Roach. As far as I'm concerned, Steve is a singularity, unlike any other artist. Humanity is blessed to have him walk the earth.

I choose Steve's music when I need to go into my waking dream ( a sort of free-writing I do in pursuit of self-knowledge). It's the only kind that I've found that allows for this (my other preferred kind being Psybient, but that's more active in nature [also no, I don't do any drugs, nor do I consider myself a hippie]).

Absolutely amazing composer! His Music is really amazed me once I heard it late night of the 2004 during the our legendary radio program about the electronic and progressive music by Martin Landers! Steve Roach for me just like an American Klaus Schulze but with his original style!

I have spent nearly 15 years with Steve's music, using it mostly as a soundtrack to my journeys in the nature. Other artists and genres came and went, Steve and the whole ambient genre stays with me since day 1. One of the most powerful audiovisual experiences will always be slowly moving clouds in summer sky while laying in the grass and listening to Fever Dreams 1. I hope I can one day make it to Tucson, and maybe, meet Steve in person.

Hi Steve (that's my name too). In the Heart of Distant Horizons 2 - how in the world did you bring that sonic dream into being? I live in Tucson and if the landscapes of the desert southwest could be turned into music Heart of 2 would be it. How long did it take you? Did it come together quickly or develop over a long time? Did you use primarily hardware or software synths? Samplers? ...a combination? Did you have to do a lot of sound design or were you able to rely on some minor tweaking of some stock sounds and/or plugins? The combination of evolving textures and effects moves me in some deep way... and it's been doing so for YEARS. I was at the Banff film festival at the Fox theater a couple years back and some random fellow was wearing a shirt with Edward Abbey's face on it. The guy told me who Abbey was (I'd never heard of him before) and when I looked him up on wiki he had a quote about southwestern landscapes (four corners area in particular I believe) in which he used the phrase "indecipherable significance". I rather like that phrase and for me it is a good way to describe Heart of 2 and the effect it has on me. Did an advanced alien race collaborate with you in the creation? :-D Like nothing I've ever heard before... or will ever hear again, I dare say...
