Thank YOU! This video saved me - only wished I had watched it prior to spending hours troubleshooting why my Pioneer AVH-4200NEX wouldn't recognize my phone. Going through my house to round up all of the various USB-A to USB-C cables I had thinking that was the problem based on forums and even Pioneer's website. The very simple "Smartphone Setup" steps around the 3:40 mark is what I needed. Beautiful.

Does standard and really common USB type c work with Nex 4200 mainly for Android auto . And what if you want to cast with HDMI do you really have to go in and change from USB 2 to HDMI Everytime you want to use HDMI

I'm pretty sure the USB 2.0 cable that connects my LG V20 to my AVIC8400NEX and Android Auto has either been disconnected from the back of the unit, or there's an open in the cable because I can no longer link Android Auto to my phone. Another clue is that I can't get the battery to charge when I plug the cable into my phone.

The Pioneer AVIC-W8400NEX works with wireless Android Auto in the US and some other regions. Your phone may be compatible. You can learn more about Wireless Android Auto here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6Czdmqbe51nY5I Please be sure you are using the correct USB port of the back of the receiver. The Pioneer AVIC-W8400NEX has 2 USB ports. Only USB port 2 will work with Android Auto. If you choose to replace the USB cable please be sure to connect the new cable to USB port 2. USB port 1 does not work with Android Auto. I recommend to press the in-dash receiver's microprocessor reset button. You'll need a paperclip or some other small point to press the microprocessor reset button. You can find the microprocessor reset button on the Pioneer AVIC-W8400NEX on the hard key panel to the far right. You can find more videos about Pioneer NEX in-dash receivers here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZPTfIutp7Nrq9U Please be sure to install the latest firmware for your Pioneer AVIC-E8400NEX. @@deckerdotto6035 Thank you for the reply. I bought my 8400NEX back in 2019 and have connected my LGV20 to the unit using USB port 2 as you suggest in your replay. I've had no problems connecting to the Android Auto App until last week when, suddenly, I could no longer link my phone to the app, nor can I charge my phone using the port 2 USB cable connection. I do believe the problem lies in the cable itself either being disconnected from port 2 or broken somewhere in the cable line, but I have to see an installer to pull the head unit out of the dash to check. Thanks again!

My wife has an iPhone and I have Android, we both use the car. Will the Pioneer NEX Receivers seamlessly switch between CarPlay and Android Auto based upon which phone is connected?
@deckerdotto6035
@deckerdotto6035 6 жыл бұрын
The short answer to your question is yes. Plug in the phone and you'll get either Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. There is a little more to the answer. Pioneer has two groups of NEX in dash receivers. The one you see in the video above is a built in Navigation level product. It also works with Apple CarPlay. You can see that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWbNppSBg72lb5I These receivers have 2 USB ports. USB 1 for CarPlay and USB 2 for Android Auto. That means two different connections must be used. The second group of in dash receivers also work with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay have only 1 USB port. You can see group 2 here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaGuip6pYpZqna8 It's is used for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay depending upon which phone is plugged in. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto operation will be identical in both groups of in dash receivers.

You can see that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3nTh5mlqsqie6c and you can see Apple CarPlay here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWbNppSBg72lb5I USB Port 2 can be used for Android Auto and to charge a phone, and to playback music, movies, and still images from a USB flash drive. I cannot get my Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G to connect to my AVIC-8200NEX with Android Auto - I get the notification "No Response" on the headunit. I have the most recent firmware on the Pioneer, and Android 10 on the phone. Pioneer customer service was no help. Any advice?
@deckerdotto6035
@deckerdotto6035 4 жыл бұрын
I have a few questions. You didn't mention these things in your question. 1. Are you in the US? 2. The Pioneer AVIC-8200NEX was introduced back in 2015. Is this a newly installed receiver, or is this an older receiver that has been working correctly for Android Auto with a different phone? Was this receiver moved from one vehicle to another vehicle? 3. Do you have the Android Auto App installed on the phone? 4. If this is a new phone, is this also a new USB cable being used to connect the phone to the in-dash receiver for Android Auto? 5. Do you have the phone plugged directly into USB Port 2 on the back of the AVIC-8200NEX or, are you using some type of extension cable, or flush mount USB port on the vehicle's dash? USB Port 1 does not work for Android Auto. Pioneer has identified a connectivity issue between newer phones using USB Type-C and Android Auto compatible Pioneer NEX in-dash receivers when used with a non-certified or non-compliant USB Type-C cable or USB Type-C extension cable. Just because a cable will charge the phone, does not mean it will carry the data necessary for Android Auto to operate. If you are experiencing this connectivity issue, we recommend directly connecting the Pioneer NEX in-dash receiver to the phone using only the Pioneer supplied USB Type-A extension cable and a certified USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable, preferably under 3 ft. in length. Direct connection using a certified USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable, preferably under 3 ft. in length is also acceptable (omitting the Pioneer supplied USB Type-A extension cable). Please be sure to use a high quality certified cable. A $1 cable purchased at a gas station may not work properly. Note: Connecting the Pioneer NEX in-dash receiver to the phone using Original Equipment (OE) USB ports, found in some vehicles, can produce connectivity issues. I recommend to press the in-dash receiver's microprocessor reset button. You'll need a paperclip or some other small point to press the receiver's microprocessor reset button. You can find the microprocessor reset button on the Pioneer AVIC-8200NEX on the hard key panel to the far right. Next, I recommend to do a Restore Settings on the in-dash receiver. You can see it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4u3dqRsi7CYjac Next I recommend to delete all phones from the in-dash receiver's Bluetooth Memory. You can see it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5fWl5uvjrOghtU Next, I recommend to delete the in-dash receiver from the Phone's Bluetooth Memory, and to delete the in-dash receiver from the Android Auto App's memory on the phone. Next, Restart the phone. Next start the Android Auto setup process from the beginning. Use a high quality USB cable with no extension plugged directly into the back of the in-dash receiver using USB port 2. I know you mentioned the latest firmware installed on the in-dash receiver. Please be sure to check that you have firmware version 1.08 installed on you Pioneer AVIC-8200NEX. If you need to install it, you can find it here: www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/NEX/AVIC-8200NEX#downloads You can find more videos on Pioneer's KZbin Channel here: kzbin.info

@deckerdotto6035

Version 1.00 was used in the video. I recommend to upgrade to the latest version of the firmware. What in-dash receiver model are you using? Are you using USB Port 2 for Android Auto as shown here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bH3HZa2OobN2qdk Are you seeing an error message? I have the Pioneer supplied ext usb in the right option, but I want it to plug into a "switch/button" style(its a USB connection on a housing that fits standard Toyota accessories openings) connection on my dash slots provided. SoI purchased this. It would work with a normal Mini USB, but my newer phone is a Type C and does not work. What are some options and still have the flush switch style connection vs a cable dangling around? So far I updated the NEX firmware, and purchased a Pioneer recommeded USB C cable. But the switch USB is still in the middle. Could this be the cause? What else can be the cause? thanks!
@deckerdotto6035
@deckerdotto6035 5 жыл бұрын
Please note, Pioneer in-dash receivers do not support any type of USB hub. I understand you are not describing a USB Hub, but a switch. I recommend a test to be sure. Plug the Pioneer USB A to USB C cable directly into the back of the in-dash receiver into USB Port 2 for Android Auto to see if it works. If so, you'll know the "switch/button" is the issue.

I have a 8100Nex for which I just updated a S5 mini to android 5.0>6.0 to be able to check out Android Auto. Download and installation went well but connecting to the USB2 does not seem to work. There is an indication on the phone that it tries (audio sound on phone) but the phone message is cannot connect, unplug USB and try again. That did not work. I noticed you have AVIC Sync active on your car which since the firmware update is greyed out. Is that a prerequisite for Android Auto? If not any recommendations for troubleshooting?
@deckerdotto6035
@deckerdotto6035 6 жыл бұрын
Don't worry about AVIC Sync it's got nothing to do with Android Auto. First, do a hard restart on your phone. Turn it all the way off and back on. Are you in the US or in another country where Android Auto is available? You have a Pioneer AVIC-8100NEX, there have been several firmware updates for this product. Do you have the latest firmware installed? You can find it here: www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/NEX/AVIC-8100NEX#downloads Be sure to have the Smart Phone set up with the proper settings for an android device, you can see that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bH3HZa2OobN2qdk On the in dash receiver, do you have Android Auto, Auto Launch set to ON? You can see that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4u3dqRsi7CYjac Try a different cable to connect the phone. Just because a cable will charge the phone does not mean it will carry data. To test, Do Not use a USB extension. Plug directly into the back of the in dash receiver to test the cable. On the phone, is the Android Auto App, set to accept new vehicles? Clear all the vehicle data, and try again.

Hello, great video. I have installed the Pioneer AVH-4200NEX in my 2011 F150 with basic Ford Sync. I have the Maestro Rr install module as well. Everything works well with Android auto while receiving calls and receiving texts and sending, the feature that doesn't work is when I say ok Google or press the microphone button on the screen, it doesn't work and I don't hear any assistant voice. I haven't been able to find any help with this. It works on my phone when it's not plugged into the USB2 port. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
@deckerdotto6035
@deckerdotto6035 6 жыл бұрын
When you programmed the Maestro RR did you set it up to use the factory Bluetooth microphone? If so this may be what's causing the issue. Go into the settings and Car Features on the in dash receiver and work with the Bluetooth settings to change from the factory mic to the Pioneer mic. This may correct the issue. The cable that came with your phone will work. No problem. The cable must be able to carry data. Just because the phone charges when plugged in, does not mean it's carrying data. hello, yesterday I installed a avh-2300nex, every thing looks just fine, but a little disapoitment arouse, when I connect my Huawei P10 to the single USB, to star using Waze on the radio screen, it inmediately cancels the audio from the music player on the phone, I discovered that only radio music can be listen while Waze is on the radio screen. How can I listen to my music while using Waze? Should I connect another cable to aux input, and then to the jack in the phone, or I have to buy some MP3 player, The reason for wich I bought this receiver was for me to be able to use Waze, and listen to my music at the same time ( in older receivers the voice from Waze dimms the music a little and then back to normal ) Thanks

For Android Auto to work, the phone needs to be plugged into USB Port 2 on the in dash receiver. From what you are describing, I think you have the Android phone plugged into USB Port 1. This is shown in the video above at this time: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bH3HZa2OobN2qdk You can test this by plugging a USB thumb drive with some music on it, into the USB port and changing to the USB source. Do you see USB1 or do you see USB2? Don't worry about using Bluetooth. That's no troubles.
