Hey peeps, the dragonfruit I had tasted in-between a watermelon and cantaloupe, while the texture reminded me of a Kiwi fruit, and they charge $60 TTD per pound for the fruit at the time of this recording. You can always check their Facebook page or call them to find out more (all info in the description above)

Visited the Pioneer Dragon Fruit farm today so got to taste the fruit and bought some. It did have a nice juicy taste to it, very subtle taste between a cantaloupe and slight kiwi , but I liked it.

Really great to see the farmers in Trinidad experimenting and finding ways to cultivate different kinds of crops. Fruits are full of fiber, vitamin C, and rich sources of antioxidants which protect us from free radical damage. Eating fruits is on excellent way to boost your immune system. Eat the locally grown food, and support these hard working farmers. I admire dedicated people like Mr. Anand who has not given up during these difficult times. God bless this man and others like him.

@@TrinbagoVibes One reason for the noticeable difference in taste is because the ones in the grocery stores are picked long before they are ripened. They do this in order to extend its shelf life. Even the fruits in the grocery stores that look ripe are not ripened on the tree or plant on which they grew. The nutrients and flavors are not fully developed, and will not be as delicious as those allowed to mature and ripened on the plant. People in T&T should support their local farmers. The food grown locally is better quality, unless farmers are using harmful chemicals and man made fertilizers.
@TrinbagoVibes
@TrinbagoVibes 2 жыл бұрын
@@durgabhawanee9957 agreed we have to support our local farmers, and this fruit is not like paw paw or mango in that even when picked it will get ripe, it’s process stops at the time it is picked to extend shelf life as you mentioned.

@@TrinbagoVibes You could do all the items made from tamarind...sauce, chutney, drink, ball, jam, ice cream (...?) I am sure Trinis have been inventive with the fruit. I noticed tamarind sauce used in many of the Trini food videos. We never ate tamarind sauce with our food. My Mom cooking skills were diverse; Chinese, Indian, Trini, English, American, Guyanese Pepperpot, Spagetti and Spanish Rice. She didn't know anything about Japanese or French food.

Yup, it’s a mix of kiwi and mango texture, you’ll definitely enjoy it and they made ice cream from it already at the farm I believe as well as bread

It's amazing. I've seen it's a foreign fruit, especially in China but in our country Trinidad and Tobago, wow, would like to know how it tastes, make comparisons.

Help! Lol...I live in the states and got a dragon fruit at the grocery store. When cut it smelled like "dirt" musty smell and had no taste whatsoever. I heard it's supposed to taste like kiwi/pear. How do I know if it's ripe or overripe? Thank you
@TrinbagoVibes
@TrinbagoVibes 2 жыл бұрын
If it’s the white one on the inside, it will be bland..at least from my experience when I tried it in Canada, if you can get the yellow or red one (on the inside) then it will be sweet, in terms of ripeness you won’t know unless you pick it, once picked it will not get ripen further…hope this helps

It would have been nice to try and describe the taste or maybe compare it to a comparable fruit. Also what’s the cost range for a fruit? what are the benefits of such a fruit?
@TrinbagoVibes
@TrinbagoVibes 2 жыл бұрын
Noted, will do a follow up video on it, trying the different types but it’s similar to Kiwi mixed with a mango texture as for the benefits: rich In antioxidants, high in fiber, it strengthens your immune system and lowers blood sugar, it cost $60 per pound but you may get some discounts depending on how many you buy, lol…will definitely have to do a follow up video, thanks for the feedback

You did not describe anything about the dragon fruit itself. What did it taste like, texture. You bought some, how much did it cost? It is good to do videos but for those who have never been to visit there or even see the fruits, we would like a bit more info, but you did a good job in showing the directions to the farm.👍
