I suppose in 16:30 hand like 88, 77 is not as good calling hand as it also blocks some of semibluffing range OOP would second barrel.

Thank you for the video. I've just starting using this. My first tree I noticed that is gave IP 33% frequencies of Call/Raise/Fold however it just split each hand between the 3 options, accross the range. So eg, on J84s it had IP folding AA 33%, Call 33%, Raise 33%. Like wise for 76s. Every hand same strategy (under Strategy Button). I assume i've made an error in my tree parameters somewhere?

+Paul Hackett That's how every tree starts its life. When you click "go" as in the video the strategies start evolving in the direction of the equilibrium.

This is an awful video as the 1st video, it jumps in the deep end without explaining the fundamentals and then there is the annoying ums and errs and ums

This really takes the essence out of poker which was players wits vs players wits, now it's all bots, computations , and apps.

Studying hands has always been a massive part of improving as a player. I’ve played professionally since 2008, and back then it was just talking hands with a group of friends who you know are very good players. PokerTracker has been around for as long as I can remember, and you’d have hundreds of thousands of hands that you’d played all saved in your database. That way you could go through your database and find spots you weren’t sure about (usually you’d mark them, or take a note, whatever) and then after a week or so you’d have a bunch of hands you wanted to review with your friends. They’d also do the same, and you’d have voice chats with programs where you could share your screen, and go over all of the hands with your buddies…then go over their hands, etc. I self taught (read some forums but not much to that point) myself by starting off at micro stakes and I got up to 200NL along with some MTTs before I started forming friendships with other good players I knew were good…often people I’d played against at those stakes that I recognized as good players. I played probably 80% HUNL once I was at the peak of my poker playing career, with around 5% MTTs, 5% ring, (6 handed NL) and 10% random stuff like 8 game once that became more popular, and then HUPLO. Without having a group of friends to go over hands with, there’s no way any of us would’ve lasted and continued to move up stakes. It was massively important. A couple of my friends from that group were playing as high as 5K HUNL and HUPLO, and some 10K NL 6Max. I played 400NL - 2KNL HUNL, and 200PLO - 1K HUPLO, occasional shots at higher stakes. Live I played as high as 50/100/200, but mostly 10/25, 10/25/50, 25/50/100 NL mostly at SHR in FLL. For MTTs I played mostly the big field stuff on the side, Sundays, occasional live MTTs as high as 25K £ buyin (only once) but mostly played 1500-5K live MTTs with the occasional 10K if it was juicy. There’s just a 0% chance I would’ve gotten to that level without studying off the table using software like PT. This is basically the next evolution of it, while they’re very different and you use both, PIO is amazing. Does it make botting easier? Ehh…there’s been bots for as long as I’ve been playing. Obviously the boys get more advanced as technology gets more advanced, but that goes for the detection of bots as well. Bot rings were rarely caught back in the day, and honestly they were terrible at poker lol. Are there issues with RTA, bots, etc online? Of course, but that’s as old as time, it’s just more advanced like I said. But I see more bots and ppl using RTA get caught now infinitely more than way back in the day. But even when playing live before a lot of software was available, I’d just take notes about hands to talk about later. PIO is too hard to use in real time, and if you’re playing MTTs you’re going to be punting without using something with ICM. Cash games are way more static, MTTs are not. I’ve seen bots grinding like HU super turbo SNGs, grinding out like a 1% ROI playing a billion tables lol. But sites have their own ways to detect that stuff. It’s a large reason HU tables are pretty much extinct online, bc ppl were bumhunting to a disgusting degree, they used scripts to detect whales and instantly sat out once the fish left, etc. Also HU is just more easy to solve, HULHE is solved. I miss being able to play HUNL/HUPLO online (I occasionally get games but it’s soooo rare) but it is what it is. If you don’t adapt, you get left in the dust. I’d say 90% of the friends I came up with that were once beating 2KNL online in like 2008-2012 or so can no longer beat even 400NL online. The people I know that are still successful adapted with the times, they play all kinds of games, and we still study to this day. I don’t play as high as I used to, but I’m still able to beat 5/10 NL/PLO online, sometimes higher in private games, and up to 10/20 or 10/25 live. I went through a phase of playing a ton of 8 game but they ruined it when they caved in to the limit specialists and capped the NL/PLO rounds at like 30BB or whatever. It actually killed the games, I used to love playing 20/40 and 40/80 8g on PS. Very unfortunate. Anyway, it’s just another tool. I don’t play GTO, very few people do. Really nobody does, a human isn’t really capable of it. But you can simplify it to something that’s applicable. Your game should be rooted in game theory, and then you can decide to deviate when you want. When I play, sometimes I’m playing extremely far from GTO. Like stuff that the silver would say is pretty bad, but I know the villain and have history with them. But it’s so huge to know what the basis of GTO is so you know when you’re deviating. I still use live reads, I still use timing tells, hell I still profile people. All of that stuff is still very much a part of the game. But I promise you if you don’t adapt, you’ll get stuck at a certain point. Maybe you can beat 1/2 and 2/5 live without touching PIO, I know many ppl who do. But I also know ppl who beat 2/5 for massive hourlies and quickly move up. You can always improve. Good luck!
