Wow. What a good teacher. Watching the video brings fun. So playing will bring more fun to me. I'm lying in the hospital for several weeks and I brought 2 drum sticks to drum on the bed in case it's boring. I'm not a drummer but fascinated from drumming. So I found this video for doing something with sense. Thank you Mister Teacher for this, my first lesson.

very helpful insight. I see a lot of pipe drummers using the resting finger (middle or ring finger or combi) to push up the stick with silent low strokes.

just stumbled upon this after struggling for weeks with traditional grip. reverse traditional happens so naturally for me and I thought I would never manage proper traditional. after watching this i actually feel comfortable using my left hand and am going to continue the grind to get used to it. thanks for the amazing tips

I’m old and returning to drumming. Learned match in high school, transitioning to traditional for pipe band drumming. In grade 5 and 4 music pieces so far, the left hand is okay. But, if I try speeding up a simple exercise like 12 on a hand, it falls apart. Thanks for the video.

Great video. Do you have any thoughts on why pipe band drummers tend to dribble the stick with the thumb rather than the index and middle finger? I noticed the latter is much more common in the jazz players and I myself play that way. I could be wrong, but it seems like both methods can more or less accomplish the same thing.

At bout 6:50, you start bouncing the stick to find your thumb placement. HOW are you bouncing that stick with your right hand?

Your videos are extremely helpful and much apprecite thr work you put in. I can't seem to get my thumb to work. I can do the bug movement. And the wrist movement bur when it comes to the thumb movement it just doesn't seem to work. My right hand is fine but my thumb just doesn't work on my left. I'm left handed also. Any ideas or times on how to get this thumb working?
