I find it to have a nice feel personally, not flat by any means but certainly sufficient for this authentic looking style. I can see where he might not like the tip shape tho, some pipers are very particular about that!

@@hobbitonpiper they sell Aragon’s called aragorns pipe with a briar bowl beautiful beech wood stem yes can’t get them but people are selling them on Ebay ect for loads of money but I’ve been doing tons of digging and talking to someone right now who is thinking of letting his go for a wopping 500$🤣 so maybe but not sure but definitely want Aragorns if not I’m just gonna get the Macquenn ranger pipe most likely will be doing that but it’s is tempting as man vauens are beautifully crafted 😩❤️

Great looking pipe! I also have one from the Auenland series (Almar, sandblasted). It's a great smoker, though it needs a little getting used to the mouthpiece and the draw and also that you have to adopt a different filling volume. Some say that the cool smoke in a churchwarden is a myth, but it's certainly true in this case; the smoke is really cool to cold when it reaches the mouth. Brilliant pipes!

The Almar is gorgeous! Yes all pipes smoke differently and take getting used to, but the round small soda-straw feel is strange for some at first :)

Kevin...I have had my eye on this particular pipe for some time. I have two Macqueen pies (Mage and Ranger) and one Flogglewerks that my wife finished. With that I don't care for the lip feel of the wood stem.....I put a small piece of heat shrink tubing on the end and it solved the lip grab. It does not detract from the look or the smokeability of the pipe. Thanks AGAIN for taunting me....

Mr Bróg from Poland makes similar pipes. Obviously, not licensed. But they look quite similar and are definitely inspired. Costs around $50 for a pear and $87 for a briar.

I have the Eron regular, not sandblast. She‘s a great wee little yoke. I have a Sungard sandblast as well. Nifty as well but a wee bit finicky alright. Very thin walls - tis hard to keep her cool. Ever so gentle puffin regime highly recommended with that one.

@@hobbitonpiper same here. That’s what enjoying a pipe is all about. Ye‘ll always get the nicest taste when smoked so slowly the pipe is nearly dying on ya. Just now I am puffin away merrily on my Sungard with that tasty caramel Caro Mio by Dan Tobacco’s Michael Apitz. Still she has the tendency to get a wee bit hot around the front there. About halfway down the bowl the briar is only about an inch thick I‘d say. She really wants gentle love.

Two things, First, you do have the pronunciation of Vauen correct according to Jean Panzer. Second, do you know Eron stands for? I do not think that it is a character in the books. Have the same pipe, except I went with the smooth finish. Was torn for a long time but chose the smooth for the darker finish. The sandblasted is really beautiful though - will try to resist the urge to get a second lol.

I feel strange hearing people in the KZbin pipe community and elsewhere talk about one day getting an Auenland in the future, as the Eron was actually my first pipe (or one of my first, as i bought a Peterson bulldog at the same time). It’s my favourite out of the handful of pipes I currently have, so much so that I’ve got my eye on another one of the Auenland pipes (probably the Doran or the Sungard). You could say I dived headfirst into the hobby and I’m not looking back.

But I recently remembered the pipe I bought 9 years ago to save for my 50th birthday (a Peterson straight pipe from the Sherlock Holmes selection) and realised I had forgotten how much I paid for it. That, and the thought of pipe tobacco being illegal or at least more restricted by the time I'm 50, gave me the pipe bug on the spot. So I made up my mind and decided to break it in 5 years early. Now I'm waiting for a selection of pipe tobaccos ordered online, as well as cleaning kits, and two more pipes - including a Vauen Shire, the Hugg. And, of course, I'm doing a ton of research so I won't mess up either my pipes or my experience. Mind you, I never smoked anything before in my life. I always did like the aroma of pipe or cigar smoke in the room, though, and I am determined to like this.

Amazing pipe my friend. I realized very quickly a quality pipe can go a long way in this hobby. ESPECIALLY one you love. I am living in France, in Versailles, and I bought a year ago a Vauen pipe : the Doran model… Beautiful box, beautiful pipe, very fine to smoke😊… À must for pipe smokers 😊… But expensive… A detail : for a best longevity of the pipe, the extremity of the pipe is not wood but acrylic… It is a pity but in France it is impossible to find Vauen tobacco…😢 And not possible to find too the mythic Tolkien prefered tobacco : the Capstan navy cut😢… Amitiés à tous 😊!

That is a nice looking pipe. I got myself the Doran version and while I enjoy the shape, it gets uncomfortably hot almost immediately while smoking it. To the point where I’m considering sending it in and getting a different Auenland. I think it’s because of the hourglass shape and where the hole is drilled in the shank. Does this happen to your Eron? Is the hole drilled in the middle of the shank? Thank you!

Many different variables could be causing your bowl to get too hot: packing/tamping too tight, insufficient cake, rapid cadence…smooth surfaces can also feel hotter to the touch much faster than a rusticated or sandblasted finish. I doubt it has anything to do with how it’s drilled.

I reached to a couple other people that have this pipe and they both experience the same thing. I love this pipe but it is uncomfortably hot to smoke. Does your Eron have any issues with heat?

I'm really leaning towards a Vauen Auenland Eron for the last spot on my pipe rack, but there's one logistical issue that's been keeping me from picking one up. Namely, "How the heck do you clear out gurgles when smoking it?". At about 14" in length it seems like it would be too long to pass a 12" churchwarden length pipe cleaner from the mouthpiece down the stem and into the bowl. I've also seen that the draft holes in some Vauen pipes are drilled off center, so even if you did have a pipe cleaner long enough it still wouldn't be able to get down into the bowl without removing the stem. Is that the case with the Eron or could it pass a pipe cleaner (assuming you had one long enough)?

If you’re worried about that, buy pipe cleaners in coils (rolls). You can cut it to whatever length you want :)

@@hobbitonpiper That's a smart idea! Expensive, but smart. I think I may just go with the Toman instead of the Eron, since it still looks fairly nice and Middle Earth'y but is short enough to clean with a standard 12" churchwarden pipe cleaner. =)

Is the stem runs a plastic tube all the way for it's full length? Is the tip long enough fir the wood not to get wet from saliva?

Yes the tip is long enough to keep the wood dry. Yes it is my understanding that the plastic tube runs the length of the wood stem.
