Great, quick work-table base, easy to build, simple parts, with minimal tool work, will move around the shop easily, adjustable to uneven floors. And the size could be changed easily with different length pipes. Like it!

Nice video! Just what I needed for my project. Computer desk. Where did u find your butcher block top? Local big box or internet? I'm cheap! LMAO😀 Rock on! Keep video ideas coming. Thanks.
@TGWoodworking10 ай бұрын
Thanks, I made the top using different domestic and exotic woods. But you can buy butcher block tops at home Depot and Lowe's for really affordable prices. They're typically acacia wood, but they should have maple too

How heavy is the frame? Can I use this as a computer desk, not sure about the correct height? I also have a thick glass table top from an old metal frame desk which got misplaced. I like this concept so I can take it apart and move as needed.
@TGWoodworking2 ай бұрын
You'd have to figure what lengths of pipe you need to make it work, but you can buy many different lengths. I think this table was about 34" tall, for a desk you want to be able 28"-30" tall I think. Not sure how much it weighs, but it's not bad

Would it be possible (advisable) to use those casters with the expandable rubber insert to avoid having to drill and thread the cap pieces?

how sturdy is this type of table...can you use a hand plane on this? I ask because I have a big box brand workbench top only hence, I need leg options
@TGWoodworking11 ай бұрын
No it can shake and wiggle a little bit. You'd need more support to keep it sturdier

Is there a cost-effective way to make the pipe taller (like around doubling the height) that is quickly adjustable? I'm looking to make a computer monitor mount for watching TV lying in bed.
@TGWoodworking Жыл бұрын
Yeah, you can just buy longer pipes. But as far as being able to adjust it to whatever height you want, I don't think there's an easy way to do that. I'd just buy an adjustable height desk frame

Excellent video. Thank you for sharing. I've seen others include wood cross-braces on the underside, and then attached the flanges to the brace. Instead of attaching directly to the underside of the table. Can you comment on when and why this would be important, or not important?
@TGWoodworking4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that'd be better, because you're always going to get some movement. I've somehow gotten lucky with this table, because it's stayed the same this whole time. The frame with cross bracing would definitely provide better support as well. Again, I'm lucky with this, that the table has remained flat. I don't know how, but maybe because there's so much glue and thin strips of wood. If it was wider solid pieces, I would definitely expect it to sag in the middle without support. Thanks, and good luck on your projects
@DavidHunterinOttawa4 жыл бұрын
@@TGWoodworking I appreciate the detailed reply. Thanks! I have not attached my legs yet, so I'll put some bracing in on the underside first. Especially since the wood didn't glue together *perfectly*!

Excellent video. Any ideas on how to make this adjustable, dining to counter height?
@TGWoodworking4 жыл бұрын
I guess you'd just have to get longer pipes

Nice project! I made a tabletop out two sheets of 3/4" red oak plywood glued and Brad nailed together. It is 84" L X 32" W. Do you think I would need center supports given the materials and length of the table? Like this design and no one will be sitting on it but want to avoid leaners and the like causing the table to bow in the middle.
@TGWoodworking3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that might sag a little.
@nanettehoover31192 жыл бұрын
How long of a span can the center pipe be without additional support? I want to make a work table out of 8’ or 10’ long butcher block countertop.
@TGWoodworking2 жыл бұрын
Wow, that's huge. I would think you'd definitely need a center support.

Any suggestions on if we want it to remain flat on the floor? Planning on using this as a desk for my sons room.
@TGWoodworking4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you can get flanges that screw onto the pipes. And you can turn them to adjust the height of each one

Hey would this work for a table roughly 70 inches long and 40 inches high? Want a nice bar style dining table that can seat 3 people each side
@TGWoodworking4 жыл бұрын
You'd need to add to the height. I think this table is like 32" or something. I can't remember, but it's the same height as a sawstop tablesaw
@aaronstrange40363 жыл бұрын
Great video, is the 32” height just the base or is that the finished table height?
@TGWoodworking3 жыл бұрын
I think that was the finished table height. It matched the height of the tablesaw, which is usually around 32"

Is it safe to use 1/2" pipes instead of 3/4"?
@rytas4 жыл бұрын
If it is a normal use dining table, or end table, it will be fine. However, the 1/2'' will look a bit too scrawny IMO. If this is for a work bench, or something more utilitarian, I would definitely go with the 3/4'' or even thicker for extra stability. You are never going to crush this pipe either way, so it's personal preference to save a few more $$, or to have a specific look.

Not sure why you'd make the project 80% harder by assuming absolutely everyone wants it to roll around on casters and imply they HAVE to go through this immensely complicated drilling process. You could mention that as an alt, but show people how easy it is to finish by just using end caps w/ padding or more floor flanges, which is prob what 90% of people would prefer to do. #KeepItSimple
