A small fact: In films due to legal reasons they never show actual explosive mixtures. They just fake it the best they can. Some insurance companies that films use. Do not allow them to use real mixtures as examples. So the special effects teams will use mostly house hold items to make them look some what real. Then the explosions you see, are controlled by the FX team. (20+ years in Film and FX Industry)

love that black powder thump... And considering it's Burt, they're probably trying to make it look like an ANFO variant without showing people how to make ANFO bombs, even though that info is available just about anywhere for the asking, as it was then. Every library in the US had at least a dozen books that would explain how to make ANFO in them, from the Anarchist's Cookbook to "Improvised Munitions Handbook By Dept of the Army" TM 31-210. Kinda makes me wonder how many times the ANFO pages were photographed from those books without even bothering to check them out... I realize that the recipe for Black Powder even made it into history books (which is where I first learned it), but ANFO is almost as widely known.
