Almost everyone I've meet that Flys an "Antique" J-3, have long ago upgraded to at least an 85 h.p. engine. Near all of the modern J-3/ PA-11 clones use 100 or 115 h.p. These are very nice flyers !

like the video, how ever perhaps slow things down a bit and explain what you are doing. how deep is your garage for one? what type of welding equipment did you use? i have no welding experience so either i am going to have to go to school for it or hire someone to build mine. unfortunate it wont be a cub which is one of my favorite planes of all time. so, I plan on building something that is very rare but not sure were to begin.

@2FlyAmerica2 жыл бұрын
@@outcold1982 Honestly, the building of the fuselage frame was easy and enjoyable. BUT, became more that I wanted when it came time to manufacture and weld all of the little clips in place. PLUS, my wife likes to ride side by side not in tandem, so... S21!

Hello good afternoon. my name is Tony I am from Buenos Aires Argentina, I have been wanting to start a project for a long time to make a PA 18, PA 11 or a J3 and I would like to know if you can provide me with some information on how I can get the manufacturing plans for some of the models Piper's already named. I await your response, thank you very much and sorry for the inconvenience. Regards

Did you ever get this together? Kind of just left is hanging on the build. Tail section looks good but the upper cabin looks a bit strange...
@2FlyAmerica5 жыл бұрын
We have not finished it yet... Life has gotten in the way a little! As far as the upper cabin look, it is built to the plan dimensions...
@Lickety-Split5 жыл бұрын
@@2FlyAmerica gotcha I admire your willingness to assemble this from scratch. I saw it when you first post the video. Been anxiously waiting to see if you made any progress. I am building my own now as well. I worked for Airframes Alaska for a bit welding and fabricating fuselages from scratch as well. The upper cabin looks more like a j3 style but I don't know for sure.
@2FlyAmerica5 жыл бұрын
@@Lickety-Split This definitely built to look like a J3. I am much further along on the upper cabin area and it looks more correct with the "bird cage" welded up. The plans are from WagAero and leave a LOT to the imagination...

If you want good prices on 4130 tube, goto VR3.ca and talk to Don. Exact same tubing that AS sells for WAY LESS. (..and it's not from China)

I see you mig welding 4130, is that acceptable in aviation now?
@nzsaltflatsracer80546 жыл бұрын
It looked like you were mig welding but it must have just been the speed of the video making it look that way.
@DrewLSsix5 жыл бұрын
What do you mean “accepted”? Any kind of welding will work and 4130 is a common alloy for aircraft frames.

Are these “Sport Trainer” drawings/plans the same as the Northland Drawings? Do you happen to know the differences? I bought the Northland Drawings, but it takes a while to be able to somewhat digest how they’re laid out. Thanks
