Thanks for the video! We have an Arrow we keep at KLHM and I always like to see people with PA28s flying to spots I’m interested in visiting. Big Bear on our list for this year! Looking forward to seeing your next installment.

Nice video James ! Flew right over L00... good restaurant down there. Looks like you had the perfect outing with the family. I'm looking forward to the flight back ! All the Best, Ron

I love how you began the video with your concerns about the density altitude. I've been seeing so many videos of DA related crashes lately. Love your vids.

I did a Big Bear dual check ride about 25 years ago in a Warrior out of Cable. For a Brit it was a novel experience climbing almost continuously out of the valley up to a destination at several times normal cruising height in the UK. The easterly departure after an enjoyable lunch was also an interesting experience with 2.5 on board in an aircraft past it's prime, followed by a long relaxing descent back to base. I never did get to do it solo. Nice Aircoupe in the hanger next to mine at White Waltham!

I had a Cherokee 140-160 hp before I was persuaded to buy an Ercoupe. I have nerve damages to my feet and legs, so I passed the Cherokee to my son. It is a pretty good economical traveler as you seem to know. Both designed by Fred W. I like both aircraft.

Hey Joe. I think it was a CalFire S2T that had a landing gear incident. Not sure what exactly.

this part was not what I am used from the channel. No Instrumentscanning, a tiny bit boring. But James, guess you need contrasts.. 🙂

I haven't found a good way to get a GoPro mounted for panel shots, like I have in the Ercoupe. I need to play around a bit more with that. The next part of this might be a bit more to your liking.

Hi James, I really love the footage from under the wing, which gives a brilliant view of the scenery below. Is the camera fitted to the gear leg? Graham.
@JamesGood2 ай бұрын
Hey graham. It’s actually right in front of the gear leg, upside down hanging from the fuel tank skin. Seems like a good place for the warrior. Now I have to work out a good cockpit mount!

May I pick your brain re: Warriors? I have a 1974 Warrior with an O320 STC to 160 hp. I have the Sensenich 74 DM 6-0-58 prop and get the maximum 2375 rpm static. What prop do you have and what static rpm do you get? What is your average climb rate? My STC will allow me to pitch to 60 and I'm wondering how much rate of climb I would lose vs how much speed I might gain. PS I really enjoy your videos, especially the long cross countrys.
@JamesGood2 ай бұрын
Hi Rick. Sounds like we have very similar Warriors. Mine is a '75 PA28-151 with a 160HP O320-D3G. I have a 74DM6-0-58 as well. I'm sure climb rate varies based on load and elevation, but if you let me know what you'd like me to try at, I can give it a go, and give you numbers. I did have a quick look at one of my videos, climbing out of a 500' elev airport, with full fuel and 3 of us on board, we were at about 80mph, and about 600fpm. I don't remember what my static RPM is at 3200' elev, but will get that number for you as well if you want.
@rickunruh81322 ай бұрын
@@JamesGood That static RPM number would be handy. Thanks for the reply.

Nice trip. On such a long one why do you not fly higher at 7 - 9 k ft. where you're faster and more efficient?
@JamesGood2 ай бұрын
Hey Lee. I can't remember what the winds were that day, but I would have picked an altitude suitable for winds, terrain and the VFR rules. There was probably a headwind up higher. If I can go high and get a good tail wind (nicely leaned out), I certainly would.
@leeoldershaw9562 ай бұрын
@JamesGood I've always been biased about high altitude. The day after I soloed in 1960 I rented the Cessna 140 and took it to 14.5 k ft. I was a recent college sprinter so the altitude was well tolerated. I wasn't there long as I spun it down to 8k ft. over the airport. Spins were practiced before solo then. The highest I ever flew was FL 390 in a Lockheed L 1011. Mostly 21 years at 350 in a DC 9.

How's the Warrior fly compared to the Ercoupe?
@JamesGood2 ай бұрын
Hey Michael. It's more of an SUV, heavier on the controls. Carries a LOT more. Lots more fuel. A little faster (120mph compared to 100mph). Burns a bit more fuel, but not a huge difference. Still fairly simple maintenance. More comfortable to ride in due to more sun protection. Definitely more 'useful', but I do miss the uniqueness, vintage appeal and motorcycle-feel of the Ercoupe!
