What a pleasure to hear this interview! Mike is like distant piping family to me growing up. I grew up during the time when Mike was attending the piping school that John MacFayden and Sandy Jones ran in NC. I have many great memories of Mike warming up that bagpipe of MacFaydens. Mike was what we all strived to be like. His father in law, Sandy MacPhee, was always mentoring me at contests and invited me to FL and the TX but I never made it. On a side note, my daughter and I were over in Scotland at the time and met you, Alan, in Glasgow, after the World's. You told me to tell Sandy Jones hello from Alan, which I did.

Interesting to hear the comment about Flame of Wrath and John MacFadyen’s style in V1! I was taught this tune by John Burgess who also presented V1 that way but also the ground without the run-down style. Would be interested to know if John MacFadyen played the run-down or not.
