So inspiring Pippi as always. Are you putting one on the other side too to sit under? That is going to make your RV much cooler. It's nice that those guys helped you and even put you on TV. Now you're even a great star than you already are. I do believe you could take that whole RV apart and put it back together again....Blindfolded...LOL..You rock girl !!

14:45 Anytime you run an electrical wire through sheet metal it is best to run it through a rubber grommet to avoid the wire chafing on the sheet metal. Can't see if you had a grommet in place. Hopefully part 2 is out soon!

It may be fiberglass, I don't know. I think I would still use a grommet even in fiberglass.

This is ABSOLUTELY THE BEST diy video I have ever seen...and I bet I have watched hundreds. That smile and cheerful attitude is contagious! This production is well thought out, concise, well spoken and focused on the point of the video with great camera positioning. Congratulations Pipi and anyone who may have assisted you with video production. I was only planning to replace my manual awning shade material but after watching this I am totally exited about just replacing the entire thing with an electric from Carefree.

Congratulations again on this COOL project, ha ha. As simple as the job may appear, it does take some serious planning to ensure you have good attach points, ensure you have clearance from any thing already on wall, like heater vents and people to assist. Funny, I used duct tape also at same point you did. I also chose Carefree to match existing units when adding one to our slide out to shade windows. My problem was I needed a custom length that was different than their custom length offerings. After a phone call I found out I could get exactly what I needed but you need to call. Anyone doing this needs to pay close attention to "How to calculate required length".

nice! on my roof, part of a top side corner is bulging loose so i drilled it w a long bit assuming thered be a top plate near to screw it back down but nothing so i added a stick on patch bc it seemed the membrane might tear being stretched out.
@JeffJohnston
@JeffJohnston 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, I apologize for jumping in on Pippi's thread, but bubbles in a rubber membrane roof are fairly common. A bubble means the adhesive has failed in that spot. The membrane is really tough material that doesn't tear easily so as long as the bubble stays small it's not really a concern. Now that you already drilled a hole in it, you can try using some type of large hypodermic syringe type of tool, such as a syringe sold for livestock treatment at a local "Farm & Fleet" or "Coastal" store, to "inject" some adhesive under the bubble area, use a roller to spread it around in there, and hope for the best. Patch the hole with something like EternaBond tape and you'll be good to go. -- Jeff Johnston, for Rollin' On TV
@sticksbass
@sticksbass 7 жыл бұрын
thanks... its actually part of the rounded corner of the roof that runs along the top of the wall which the membrane lays on that popped up. i filled the hole w sealant and added a self sticking membrane patch i bought on ebay.

Pippi I just purchased a new 20' roller tube and awning to replace one that got damaged. The arms and drive ends are both ok. I am trying to figure out the best way to install it. Can I leave the arms up and just replace the roller tube after sliding it into the track? Not sure if I can just slip the old roller tube out without taking arms off? Any suggestions?

Hi Pippi Just wondering what happened to the insulation you put on the roof? I liked the idea but I don't think it would stand up to Arizona wind, or any wind for that matter. Any ways what I have been experimenting with is Homedepot self adhesive duct insulation, model #FV516. I use premium foil tape, model #1207794, to seal the joints. Take a look and see what you think.

Great job of installing the electric awning. I am just curious as to why you did not opt for a manual awning that would not extend out so far but would come down to cover the windows? The electric awning (it seems to me) is more for providing extended shade area on the active side of the coach. I am not criticizing but am just curious.
