Piraeus Athens Port City | Spring 2024

Piraeus and the various bays of modern Piraeus from Phaleron, Mounychia(Mikrolimano), Zea and Kantharos(the main port today) were historically the main ports of Athens, the ancient Kantharos is Piraeus harbour today and we still see remnants of the ancient Athenian fortification which was connected with the city Athens via the long walls. In this walk we start from Zea Marina and via Lampraki and Vasileos Georgios Avenue we see various landmarks of Piraeus like the municipal Theatre and Piraeus Tower skyscraper. Zea Marina in Classical antiquity was the main military port of Athens where most of the Athenian triremes were kept and we still today see remnants of the walls and the ancient docks.
