Here's my spoiler-filled reading experience of Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. This book is small in size but huge in impact.

after reading this book there is a lot to take in. For some reason each time u analyze it smth else comes to mind so here is my take. This is the exploration of Piranesi/Matthew's mind. The whole things starts throwing hints when Arne-Sayles is introduced who surrounded himself with followers devoted to him similar to a cult. He was also arrested for kidnapping James Ritter who went through "rituals" and now is a former shell of his past which implies massive trauma after the abuse he was subjected to. The Other "stole" every idea from Sayles so we can similarly think the abuse that Ritter went through was also put on Matthew. At the time he is found by 16 he barely remembers his old self which can be a myriad of mental issues caused by trauma and being held prisoner (i go with with Dissociative Fugue) and The House is the refuge created by matthew to survive.

I've read "Piranesi" five times and listened to the audiobook twice. Each time I discovered new clues and interpretations. "Piranesi" means a lot to me. The main character reminds me so much of myself and gives me hope in humanity. Thank you for your thoughts. I love to hear from other readers who understood the beauty of this work.

Oh dear! I have to read it first?! OK, I just tried again... Got to page 20 and am too bored to read another word - lol. No more waves and halls and statues and notebooks for me. It's going completely over my head. Not my cup of tea! So glad you and thousands of other readers love this book!! Apparently, Edith Hamilton ruined mythology for me forever. 🙃🙂
