Pirate's Scorn - King K. Rool Smash Ultimate Montage

After the success of my last montage, I'm Nobody's Hero, I got inspired to create another epic montage. This time, King K. Rool's target is none other than Kaptain Skurvy, who comes to claim his birthright, the Crystal Coconut. The song used in this montage, Pirate's Scorn, originated from the Donkey Kong Country cartoon. I used a remixed version for this montage, created by Alestorm. I put a lot of time and effort into this montage, enjoy!

Fun fact. The stupid ape the song refers to is in fact Donkey Kong, or really one of his ancestors who's also named Donkey Kong. The song is "Pirate's Scorn" by Alestorm, which is a cover of a song with the same title from the old Donkey Kong Country animated series.

If you think about it, King K. Rool is actually one of the most formidable Nintendo villains. Bowser, Ganondorf, Wario, King Dedede, or Ridley, for example, can usually be defeated by their respective heroes one-on-one. K. Rool, on the other hand, takes a protracted effort from multiple Kongs to put down. Keep in mind also that Donkey Kong is a boss against Mario, and he still usually needs help to beat K. Rool.

Kaptain Scurvy doesn’t get as much as attention as King K. Rool does. I could be wrong about that, but Scurvy should be in the Donkey Kong games. He made it more interesting. Kaptain Scurvy is my favorite Donkey Kong villain.

This was really good! I'm a sucker for montages that time big hits/moments to the music, and the song was really great and fit super-well! Plus you did a good job with the editing on the occasional meme bits. Also, I had no idea you could reverse the direction of K. Rool's Gut Check between the point of stopping their attack and doing the counterattack. Might be good to try if and when I finally pick up K. Rool myself, haha.

Vote for King K. Rool on the ballot, get hyped when he gets revealed, and commit to your destiny. …Just kidding. Here’s some tips: • King K. Rool’s forward air is one of the best moves in the game, seriously. It can kill, string combos, and clank certain projectiles. I like the throw it out in neutral whenever I think I should, it’s that good. • Up air can be used to stall and recover. There’s no need to burn directional air dodges when recovering, as up air gives King K. Rool a slight vertical boost when recovering. Just keep in mind that up air has almost 1 second of endlag, so you can be punished if the opponent anticipates it, but it helps significantly with recovering. You can also use it high up when launched near the blastzone to mix up your fall time. • Use crown as a combo starter. Throwing crown is one of the best ways for King K. Rool to start combos. Anticipate where the opponent will be upon getting hit by the crown for a two-step kill confirm, like following up with an up air or forward air. • Down throw is versatile. When you use down throw, the best option is to quickly run forward slightly and then up smash. This can kill most opponents around 95% if they mash. If the opponent is around 65%, you can down throw, then do one jab, then regrab for another down throw to extend it, racking up damage in the process. • I like to use the cannonball as a wall of sorts. Learning how to B reverse the cannonball can be good for retreating as well, as you step back and fire away. The cannonball can also be followed up, or even end combos, so make sure you think a step ahead if you use the cannonball as an aggressive tool. • With the blunderbuss vacuum, if you shoot someone upwards and they double jump, you can up B right away and go for a kill. It’s the easiest way I’ve found to kill with the propellor. I won in a tournament bracket with it, and the opponent was only at 30% when it killed. • Armor attacks are good at winning neutral, but don’t forget that the opponent can start to anticipate them and hold shield. If they start to play around your armor attacks more, try mixing up your options. Tomahawk grab is one option, which means to do an empty jump and grab upon landing. Another option is to use blunderbuss point blank, as the cannonball will poke shield slightly and then the vacuum will launch them. • Lastly, at 0%, go for forward throw to dash attack if you can. It does 30% guaranteed. It’s just something to note.
