I just love the face-off from 0:33 to 0:47. Barbossa is staring at Will the betrayer, while Will stares at Elizabeth, the woman he loves. Elizabeth stares at Beckett, the man who murdered her father. Beckett on the other hand stares at Jack, the man who vexes him so, while Jack is unlucky enough to be staring at Davy Jones who is staring right back at him (LOL, probably not)

After all the irony is both Will and Barbossa are linked since they were once enemies that his father cursed him for abandoning Jack that Barbossa once attempt to kill him when his curse breaks free, Elizabeth has grudge against Becket because he once put her under arrest, he enslaved, killed her people and he killed her father as she lost all the people she trusts, Jack is worried since he still has an debt to pay to Davy Jones as captain of the black pearl and he tries to focus how he'll get out of this situation if he can at least get close to his heart

the underlying meaning of the dialogue is incredible!!! Will is quietly suggesting to Elizabeth that his father can be saved by Jack stabbing Davy Jones’ heart. Elizabeth realizes this due to Jack’s entanglement with Beckett and suggests an exchange to have Jack the closest to the heart. Barbossa realizes this as well, he knows that Jack is against freeing Calypso and that he will take his piece of eight with him during the exchange so he cuts it and keeps it to have leverage and later free Calypso. And finally Barbossa warns Jack not to tell Beckett and Jones about the plan to free Calypso, or he will tell them about the plan to steal and stab Jones’ heart while aboard the Dutchman. That’s why Jack says “first one to the finnish line then?” Jack means...go ahead with your plan and I’ll go ahead with mine...let’s see which one works out best. Just in case...I did not come up with this. This is all thanks to another comment I read in a forum. Watching this scene with that knowledge is amazing...it changes the experience

Scene breakdown: Elizabeth: Will, I’ve been aboard the Dutchman, I understand the burden you bear, but I fear that cause is lost. - Turners father is a lost cause. Will: No cause is lost if there is but one fool left to fight for it. - Jack will be the one to free his father since he wants to stab the heart and be the captain. Beckett: If Turner was not acting on your behalf, then how did he come to give me this? You made a deal with me, Jack, to deliver the pirates, and here they are. Don’t be bashful, step up, claim your reward. [tosses Jack compass] Davy Jones: Your debt to me is still to be satisfied. One hundred years in service aboard the Dutchman. As a start. Jack: That debt was paid, mate, with [motions to Elizabeth] help. - Meaning he died but was freed from the locker so the debt was paid. Davy Jones: You escaped! Jack: Technically... Elizabeth: I propose an exchange. Will leaves with us, and you can take Jack. - Since Jack will stab the heart he needed to be aboard on the Dutchman. Will: Done. Jack: Undone. Beckett: Done. Barbossa: Jack is one of the nine pirate lords, you have no right... Elizabeth: King. Jack: As you command. [takes off his hat and bows to Elizabeth] [Barbossa cuts off Jack’s piece of eight, and Jack the monkey runs over and gets it] -Fake fight to get the piece of 8. Barbossa: If you be sayin’ something, I might be sayin’ something as well. - Don't tell them about Calypso or I'll tell them about the heart. Jack: First to the finish, then? - Will you set Calypso free first or will I stab the heart. OR will I stab the heart before Turner does? [Jack and Will switch and Jack stands by Davy] I love all the hidden messages in this, almost as if all 4 of them had a plan that Beckett and Jones didn't know.

nba73 I can strongly disagree. You people did not like the 4th installment just because it was something different and it didn't have to do with Elizabeth and Will. The 4th one might had a "lame" story for some but it did NOT mess up the previous story, they did NOT fuck up and erase all the things that have been said and the actors could still perform their characters. It actually had some errors but NOT as many as the 5th one which didn't only butcher the backstory but it also was made for the money since the directors knew NOTHING of cinematography and the actors were so not into it especially Johnny. I understand it though people grow and Johnny is an old man, therefore cannot perform like he used to 15 years ago. That's why I hope they don't come with the 6th installment to ruin and insult Gore Vorbinski and his original trilogy. I know the 4th was pretty boring but the 5th was a plot hole and an INSULT. There are now 12 year olds all over the Internet saying that Beckett or Jones is nothing compared to Salazar. What a joke. Ghost sharks? Dead men tell no tales? Bullshit. Let's not speak about the compass story that they fucked up. I'm sure you've heard it. Or that scene with "young" Jack. I can assure you I can use CGI on my phone and edit better than they freaking did. Or how funnily enough the Black Pearl is the fastest ship of all and then Jack and his crew gets caught by Silent Mary (Salazar's ship). Or how William was only alive because of Davy Jones's curse since he was dying and was only saved by being the captain. And let's just say that okay.. his heart was teleported back into his body like people have told me. Who's the captain of the Dutchman now though? The Dutchman must always have a captain. The best part is Barbosa's death. Not only it was unecessary and terrible made, it was hilarious. They killed this lovely character of off Cutler Beckett's theme. That's like killing chewbacca of off Darth Vader's theme. A joke. Let's not speak about Keira's hair that they didn't even bother to dye blonde. Or how dead men tell no tales and then we see Salazar narrating to Barbosa about how he met Jack. It was a cheap rip off from the first movie clearly. The casting was eh. The whole trident thing. Eh didnt really like it. When Barbosa was cursed by the Aztec gold why didn't he seek for the trident? I guess.. the creative team behind those films is long gone... sad.

zieglersxbryn n I agree on quite lots of your points. 5 did Screw up a lot of things, keep in mind I didn’t particularly like 5. I just thought it was better than 4 because it actually had a semi investing story, and some fun. Something 4 lacked. While Salazar was a two dimensional villain, he actually had some motivation and was a fun character. Something blackbeard lacked. I know 5 screwed up some things in the timeline, but I liked how it was connected to the first 3. On stranger tides was just some spin off adventure that had nothing to do with the other movies. Like I said, I agree with you on some aspects. My biggest issue with 5 was Johnny Depp’s performance because it was down right terrible. Here’s my ranking 5. On stranger tides 4. Dead men tell no tales 3. Dead mans chest 2. At worlds end 1. Curse of the black pearl But I respect your opinion and enjoyed reading your thoughts.

So the Davey Jones in the buckets thing is actually a seriously telling thing. Not only does it help explain the jar of dirt thing, but also explains how specific the rules in question are. As Jones cannot set foot on dry land, they are A, on a sand barge which barely counts as land, B, close to the edge so that land is not dry in the first place, and C, have him in a bucket of water because that means he has not set foot on the technically not dry technically not land. That’s a triple layer loophole, and certainly something that requires a lot of trial and error to learn but still. As for the Jar of dirt, if a bucket of water counts as not dry land, a jar of dirt certainly counts as dry land, which is why Jones couldn’t sense his heart. The rules of supernatural pirates in this world are so stupidly specific and yet so loose it’s insane and yet here we are.

The question you asked is simply 1 layer of Trollface logic, simply not enough to rules-lawyer around the curse limitations

@DaveFY
@DaveFY 6 жыл бұрын
0seconds That's hardly practical. Aside from water slipping out the rim every now and again, have you ever tried to walk around with water-filled bucket-shoes? You're not getting anywhere fast. And then there's the risk of accidently losing balance and falling over (or getting pushed). Then he has to deal with the untold consequences of touching land. The whole idea is only temporary where you can afford limited mobility for a short time, at best.

Anyone else think that part of the reason Elizabeth handed over Jack was because she knew that he would escape fairly quickly and either a) return to them or b) make some sort of a deal with Beckett that would be mostly beneficial to Jack, but in some way to them as well? In my opinion, Elizabeth, already intelligent to start with, became as cunning as Jack along the trilogy. Very few people saw it because one of her main goals was to get The Love Of Her Life (Will) back safely, a very "girly" aim in the eyes of most men. As Sao Feng said, "There is more to you than meets the eye."

Will is secretly telling Elizabeth that Jack needs to be exchanged, first, Will says "If there isn't one fool left to fight for it" that means Jack is the only one pursuing the heart and Will has come full circle thinking like Jack and has learnt his way of trickery, Jack notices this and gives a slight smile, Elizabeth catches this and then later in the scene when Davy Jones was talking about his Debt, Elizabeth understands what Jack is planning to do so exchanges Will and Jack to gain an upper advantage.

“Don’t blame Turner. He was merely a tool of your betrayal If you wish to see its grand architect, look to your left.” Barbossa to Elizabeth, Elizabeth to Jack, and Jack to realization.

This movie soundtrack is epic, definitely the best of the entire series and it’s actually my second favorite movie after the curse of the black pearl

I just love how the only thing Jones says to Jack is his catchphrase: "Do you fear death?" Hahaha it's so ridiculous, I think it was a bit of self-conscious humor from the director.

I really wished Davy Jones and Barbossa had interacted/fought, that would've been great.
