Say what you want about the movie, it still had the best live-action mermaid scene in cinematic history and has yet to be topped. In this scene, the lighting and soundtrack are incredibly magical, yet eerie; the mermaids are enticing, yet dangerous; beautiful, yet terrifying; the Jolly Sailor Bold song sets a memorable soothing, yet cautious mood for the viewers. At first everything feels magical, but then the mermaids pop up their heads in the background, waiting for the chance to pounce. Then, when the danger comes, the soundtrack kicks up a gear and the scene becomes terrifying and action packed. Truly a scene that covers all the important entertaining aspects for how a mermaid/siren should be portrayed, changing from one emotion to another perfectly all while keeping the magic of it. Not to mention it has fantastic looking CGI tails for them, which for me works much better than practical mermaid suits, which look a little silly when actresses swim in those. If you can name a better scene with at least all some of those same aspects, I'm all ears

This movie was so boring after the trilogy. "Jack Sparrow is in it" was literally the plot.
@littleredruri3 жыл бұрын
I'd argue that the fact Jack was in it had nothing to do with the plot. They literally just took the plot of a book from the 80s and shoved Jack in the middle of it.

The trilogy had some heart to it. The rest is just Jack porn.

Writer: we need to have two young people in these fall in love because they’re both attractive. Producer: Don’t we already have Jack and his ex in the movie? Writer: Oh yeah. Whoops! Producer: Whoopsie!
@ДмитрийЗеленский-ж7х3 жыл бұрын
To be fair, Jack Sparrow isn't exactly young. He was already stranded by the time Bill Turner was killed, which means he was a full-grown adult (and, presumably, Barbossa and Bill's captain) when William Turner (Junior) was born. This suggests he's actually in late fourties by this time if not more.
@Gooner1843 жыл бұрын
Jack ain't young.
@VicenteTorresAliasVits3 жыл бұрын
As the others already told you in the replies, Jack isn't that young... but beyond that, the idea is to keep the same status quo from the previous movies. Jack has to be accompanied by 2 characters that represent Will and Elizabeth. Also, while Johnny Depp is a good-looking guy, he's not made to look like one in these movies.

No, that's BAD fantasy in a nutshell. Good fantasy ensures that magic still has consistent rules that allow for some measure of stakes.

Never read any good fantasy series, have you?
@bobbyfeet22403 жыл бұрын
There are two or three options for good fantasy. One is careful, clear rules. A possible second is using known rules (like vampire mythology or fairy mythology). The last is to only lightly use magical elements. A lot of really good writers go that route as creating and explaining rules is pretty tedious generally.
@amankg73 жыл бұрын
GOT in the beginning had consistent rules
@Grasslander3 жыл бұрын
Not true. And that is not true about superhero comics either, nor about science fiction. "What, you expect LOGIC from a story that has MAGIC/LASERS in it?" The premise is that something above normal exists, like magic, superpowers or sci-fi tech. That doesn't mean logic and normal laws of nature disappear from the rest of the story. The fantastic things are fantastic precisely because ordinary rules otherwise stay the same.
