I always thought this was a curse. The pirates come to life to show you their final fight, Where most of the pirates lost their lives, and only a skeleton crew made it back. The reason I liked these type of rides, was because you could sort of tell your own story with what was given. I HATE rides that force the story on you. No imagination, just seeing everything. Like all the new rides. The old rides kind of gave you glimpses and let your imagination run wild. Like thunder mountain, space mountain, Matterhorn, Haunted mansion, Pirates. I think this is why I liked Grizzly river run. It dsnt really force a story.

I know, that's why I hate Constance Hatchaway, with the old beating heart bride, you could create in your mind your own story. Was she malevolent, benevolent, why was she there? Now they throw the insane, gold digging, ax murderess in your face and leave nothing to the imagination. Pirates is by a wide margin my favorite ride... Not sure what it is... but I love it. I would love to see the Jack Sparrow stuff removed... I really quite loved the original one. And yeah, I guess if Disney feels pressured to change the auction scene, they've had to do it... but I definitely prefer the original!

I have vague memories of the "story in 2 parts" for POTC being something mentioned in the 1970s by either Disney himself on one of the Sunday night shows (which I watched as a child) or in the View Master or other Disney published stuff from the 1970s. Sadly, I don't think many of the Disney items from my childhood were saved by my parents or grandparents (my mom's parents lived 1 mile from Disneyland throughout my childhood - my mom remembers Disneyland when it was orange groves).

funnily enough, the story is *not* in reverse on the French park It is pretty linear. It starts with going in front of the blue lagoon, a restaurant inside the attraction, then the ship attack, the auction scene, the sack of Port Royal, then ther's fire everywhere, one of the fall represent the explosion of a powder reserve, and *then* they are all dead, skeletons, big treasures, dead men tells no tell, you know the drill.

Honestly don't mind the scene overall. I think the new animatronics all look good. My problem is the dialogue.. it feels really cheesy and doesn't fit the rest of the ride. Maybe I just need to ride it a few more times to normalize it. But for now, the dialogue just kills it for me.

the pirate scene was changed because some people were offended by it and some parents had a problem explaining it to their kids. back when it 1st came out in 67, during the 70's, 80' and even the 90's people didnt seem to have that big a problem. 2000's come in and people start having problems.

i never quite saw it as the story in reverse. more like a prelude which shows that pirating leads to death.. that a dead man cannot enjoy his loot... and then a warning that if youre not careful you'll end up like these dead men. Then we go back in time and show how that went down. with the exception of the recently added johnny depp, the pirates start out winning but it quickly goes south.. the women escape, they're stuck in jail with the building on fire, and they are about to blow themselves up in the armory. in other words, the pirating and drunkenness led to doom. of course again, johnny depp coming out ahead at the end kinda undermines that story for me. but at least we don't have davy jones undermining my theory anymore. the original ghosts say "dead men tell no tales".. in other words, if you go down the pirating path, you'll die and not be able to tell of what happened... Davy Jones saying "ah but the do tell tales.." always ruined that warning for me. I'm glad he's gone

When I first watched a video with the new additions, I completely missed the transition of the mans face because I was focused on the octopus so I think it's to distract..Maybe for younger kids to not be scared by the skeleton if they're focused on the octopus..?

I’m sooo happy that they brought back the old audio for that tunnel! I never liked the David Jones waterfall thing there because it looked super fake compared to the rest of the ride. Also, to me it didn’t make sense for Jones to be there, it didn’t fit into the ride. I was sad when I heard they were changing the Redhead (aka Redd) at first because I’m a sucker for classic Disney. I do like the idea of her being a pirate now, but she looks completely different. I get that she’s a pirate now and pirates don’t wear bright red lipstick and blue eyeshadow, but I wish they kept more of her old looks. At least keep her hair the same color!! I do think the animatronics are really good in the scene. The dialogue is pretty lame and cheesy I think. I miss the classic lines. I think they could have kept “we wants the redhead” but instead have Redd say something sassy or something. I don’t know, I think it could have been better. I do really like the new Redd walkabout character! I’m actually going to be her for Halloween. It will be interesting to see if they choose to add Redd into the new Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
