Fear Factory is basically a band that influenced a generation of bands and get next to no credit for it. Growls into cleans, constant kick drums and guitars grinding together, no guitar solos, and samples/keyboards, all together as a style, was started with FF in the early 90s. They were ahead of all those late 90s bands whom were clearly influenced by them, but, since FF was never a big mainstream band, they never got the notoriety. Things they did are now deeply embedded into metal, and your common listener, and even younger pro musician, doesn't know where it came from as if it came out of nowhere. People hear FF for first time now, and will say it sounds like this or that band, when it's the other way around. The biggest benefiter of their influence would be Slipknot. The FF song in the video is from 1995. The only original member left in the band today, is the guitarist.

I got this album the year it came out. It’s in my top 10 metal albums all time. Good choice. Industrial Metal we called it.

I used to play Fear Factory in the truck when I was driving my two sons to their pee-wee football games back in the early 2000's to get them psyched. My two sons, who are now 31 and 28 years old, still like Fear Factory.

This song is a “top 10 of all time” for me. Get goosebumps during the ending every time. Cannot explain it. It speaks to me on a deep level somehow…

Right? Some very good songs initially give me goosebumps, but it fades away over time. A very few songs never stop being so chilling, dont know why.

I'm not a fan of everything these guys have done, but this album 100% gold, start to finish. One of the bands that heavier side of "nu-metal" completely bit off, and one of the reasons I was never able to get into that stuff. I'd hear it and be like "oh, this is just FF for kids on the short bus..." 😂 Seriously though, Demanufactue is pretty much a perfect album. Where I can't really even get into, for instance, the first couple Korn albums anymore because I'm so far removed from being mad about bullies in school, THIS aggression and angst still hits and resonates.

Fear Factory is a Top 5 band for me so I'm glad you liked this song! It's actually one of my favorites from them. They tend to make concept albums with "man vs. machine" themes which I'm a big fan of. I would recommend the songs "Shock" for something around this same time period or "Regenerate" from a more recent album.

Love Fear Factory! Not the song I would have chosen as an intro to the band but thats a subjective thing and maybe just my opinion. No such thing as bad FF. Cheers!

Fear Factory was freaking great. This was 90s industrial metal at its best. This album is “Demanufacture”, released in 1995. The follow up album is “Obsolete”, released in 1998, which is even heavier than this album. Another classic. Very much worth a listen. They have like 5-6 other albums over the years since then, with Archerype being the best of them IMO.

I saw Fear Factory open for Ozzy Osbourne here in England at Wolverhampton Civic Hall back in 1995 as a 15yo.

I saw them at Ozzfest 1997 in Minneapolis Minnesota. FF blew the roof off the place. Went out & bought Demanufacture and SOANM the next day.

It's heavy. Probably I'd like it when experiencing it live. For me this is new. I did know the name of the band and probably heard some songs, but it never convinced me to take a deeper dive into this band. The bits with the synth I like very much. That brings a bit more melody in the song and makes it somehow a bit sinister. Does that make sense?...

This is easily one of my fave metal albums. Even got a t-shirt of the album cover. Lol. And this song is arguably my favourite by Fear Factory. Either this or Replica. As someone that was raised Catholic and lost all faith, it just, kind of, speaks to me. The ending is powerful.

FYI, everything on the Demanufacture album is excellent. This was a nice surprise. I’ve loved Fear Factory since their debut album, Soul Of A New Machine, in 1992… yes, 30 years ago. I disagree with those who say they remained consistently good. They jumped the Nu Metal shark in 1998 with their third album, Obsolete. That album has a few good songs but, it marked the end of my enjoying Fear Factory… at least until 2005, when they kinda went back to their Thrashy Industrial Death Metal origins. They’ve kept that sound up but, the quality isn’t as good as it was back in the early to mid 90s. Too many of their songs sound alike and they really haven’t broken any new ground. Plus, the relations in the band are notoriously bad. They all hate each other and left, come back, quit, sued one another… it’s stupid and is a real turn off. I sort of knew Burton Bell, the singer up until a couple of years ago. I used to bump into him here in Santa Fe when he’d come to visit friends. Very cool guy. I just wish he was still in the band. Anyway, I’ll be here for more Fear Factory reactions. 🤘🏼🔥

Listened to FF since the mid 90's. Personally, I like the older material but, Dino kicks ass! Milo, I will give him credit. The new drummer, a bit soft but does pretty good on the drums, Gene Hoglan, DRUM MONSTER! Gene Hoglan fit FF better, IMHO.

Unpopular opinion, probably. I don't like it. When it first starts, it sounds like it's going to be good, and then it gets monotonous. Just my opinion, nobody come for me. The vocals, same. The lyrics, not a fan. Maybe I'm super picky, idk. I'm ok with that. The sound quality was way better here. Thanks Lauren. I hope you're having a great week. : )
