@@Toniitony yes dude! From what I'm seeing both longevity and athleticism can be solved with modern physical training and medicine - which maybe would have kept him from retiring after just 10 seasons. We would've gotten to see him play with Bird for 3 more years, mentoring the guy, and they BOTH would've been healthy and dominant. Considering that the Pistol shot 10 of 15 after the NBA finally added the 3 point line, that would've been insane.

EXACTLY, Geron. Pete, like West and Robertson before him, was a true COMBO guard. He distributed and scored. Dave Bing, Walt Frazier and Paul Westphal were combos, too. Gary Payton, a bit later, was as well. These guys did it all, at least on offense. Now, a Maurice Cheeks, Stockton (PG's), Reggie Miller, David Thompson, George Gervin (SG's) were great, but did not take on the level of responsibility of the combos.

What an incredible performance on a team that really had no other player that was on offensive threat. There’s no question he would have made a run at 80 with today’s rules. Pete was 26-43 from the field (60.5%) and 16-19 from the line (84.2%). He also had 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocked shots. Meanwhile, the Knicks HoF guards, Frazier and Monroe, shot a combined 6-23 from the floor. In this season, the Jazz finished a respectable 35-47, and - as a long-time Jazz fan - I have to say that other than Maravich, there was very little talent on this team. Gail Goodrich was the other big name on this team, but he was out for most of the season Maravich was surrounded by Jim McElroy, Nate Williams, Otto Moore. Not necessarily household names. So it was an ideal situation for Maravich to showcase his individual talent, which he did and he lead the league in scoring with 31.1ppg. And he earned first team All-NBA.

He is the only person who has ever played that I could imagine would just nonchalantly pull up from half court and shoot a jump shot, drill it, then just turn around with no expression like it was nothing! Lol. This guy would be unstoppable no matter what era he played in. He can do everything. Shoot from 1 to 40 feet , pull up, right , left , off balance, over his head, 15 foot one handed shots after getting fouled, flip shots , turn around, fades , plus great ball handler and passer and he is a good enough athlete to get his shots. The only way he wouldnt score is if he isnt hitting. No one in any era is going to stop him.

First time seeing ‘game context’ footage of Pete. Scouting report: Great hands, great handles, can go right or left. Very subtle, but he relaxes his body for just a split second, lulls the defender, then elevates for the jumper. Really uncanny, natural instinct. And he’s an accurate shooter that needs be accounted for... To slow him down I’d bring a double although I might let him shoot all day and make the other 4 stand around watching him. And I’d prefer a bigger guard on him. As his coach I’d work to get his game incorporated into the team flow, find players he knows and has chemistry with... late in the game though I might want more ISOs for him and also run off screens. People saying he’s like Iverson, I see that but I actually see a little Jerry West as well.
