10 yard zero is the correct answer. The difference realistically is less than 3/4 of inch (assuming you do your part correctly). You should work on crushing your dominant hand with your support as that will stop the horizontal stringing you are seeing. When I zero at 10 I ensure all my shots are within a 2 inch circle (usually touching so sub 1 inch). I can take that gun zerod at 10 and go to 100 yards and hit A zone steel with relative ease, unsupported.

When making a videos like this especially if you want to take human error out, it’s highly recommended to rest pistol on something

Not the pistol. Rest the hands that hold the pistol.

I am not a steady enough shot to use the technique taught in the video, so I had to figure out a way that would work for me. I clamped my empty pistol, barrel down, under a light bright enough to see the three iron sights. I held my head so the front sight is properly aligned in the rear sights. My Sig P365XL has combat sights which mean that when aligned this way the bullet will go to the target where the center of the circle on the back side of the front sight is. If a gun uses non-combat sights the target should sit on top of the front sight. Using the adjustment screws on the red dot sight I moved the red dot so that it sits in the center of the front sight, which is where the bullet would go to. Now the bullet will go where the red dot is which is where the iron sights are also aimed. Voila! The red dot is zeroed without wasting any bullets. The results are good when I shoot the target at the range. I am open to any criticisms of this technique.

I did that to my new GDS. going to put it to the test nest week when I go to the range and see if I need adjustments. I got a pistol rest just to make sure.

Great information! I really like how you showed the data and the practical application. So many people get caught up in what the math says when real life is saying something different

I just installed a 507k on My 43x using a DPP adapter plate, I Have a dot hight over bore of 1 1/4" My plan is to zero at 50 ft my max usable distance , w/3" barrel, anything less than that I will have hold over , the reason why I'm picking that distance is, if I were to use a 21' I will have hold under at 50' ( like you showed at first ) and it will get even worse the farther out it goes causing wild high shots . The more hight over bore you have the more zero distance you need or the trajectory will get increasingly worse the farther out the bullet travels. It's the hight over bore that causes these trajectory issues.

The height over bore really only affects the hold at distances closer than where you zeroed. Once the bullet reaches its max ordnate/zeroed distance, height over bore is pretty much out of the equation. The only other place it really applies is in the adjustments. The more the HoB, the less down elevation you have. Thats why when you put a scope on say a 20 MOA scope base, you gain more up elevation. You're taking away the down elevation to add to the up.

Awesome video I have a holosun 507c acss. Supposedly if it's zeroed at 25 I can go out to 50 and 100. I will definitely try the 25 yard zero

Really interesting data points. I think I’m going to maintain my 25 yard zero. But I want to test this out on my PDP w/RMR
@TheThinkingShooter
@TheThinkingShooter 2 жыл бұрын
Could you explain why you choose the 25 yard zero? That way we can start a discussion to help others who might be wondering why they should go with one zero over another. I think if I went with a zero other than 15, based off of the data and testing it would be a 20 yard zero as it seems to give a good split between 15 and 25 with the benefits of both and not really any of the down sides
@richardwhite9235
@richardwhite9235 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheThinkingShooter honestly it boils down to just knowing that at all distances my hold over is in the same direction. I am either dead on POA POI or I am slightly low. The 20 yard zero is a good choice based on data as well with minimal/no hold over required to adjust vertically. Truthfully IMHO it really boils to having to memorize or train to the least amount of variables.

I personally agree with Richard. I use a 25m zero primarily because I tend to shoot around the 25m distance but not much further. Most of the open area distances, size of rooms, length of hallways etc... that I tend to find myself in are around 25m or closer so I know that most often I'm either dead on, or holding no more than 1 inch high

Really great points from both of y’all. I zeroed at 15 but for the reason of liability. In the eyes of the law I feel like they will say 25 yards is a far enough distance to remove yourself from danger and you’re no longer in an “imminent and immediate” threat. It’s all so scary and hard to gauge.

Personally I stick with 15. There's practically zero hold over/under from 0-15. At 25 yards you'll hit 0.25 - 0.5" low which is still so minimal that you can just put your dot center mass and shoot.

I wish you would have used a pistol you were more familiar with for better accuracy. It always seem like people make videos but be quick to give excuses saying please forgive me I have a cold, or my big toe is hurting bad or my sinus is killing me or this not really my pistol I normally use. Forgive the lighting etc. I be thinking like darn if you know this or feel like this then why make the darn video still. Why not just wait till you’re completely ready so excuses can’t be given. Ironically its not just this video but it seem like all KZbinrs give the same excuses.
