Scene comparisons of the biopic "Pistol" (2022) with "The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle" and "The Filth and The Fury".
Mini review:
"The quieter moments shared between Chrissie Hynde and Steve Jones provide a nice counterbalance to all the noise emanating from the band, both on and off stage."

Enjoyable series. I thought it could have been more "real" from a filmmaking sense, rather than too smooth and nice in its appearance, but overall the actors were fantastic. Special mention to Anson Boon as Lydon and also Thomas Brodie-Sangster as McClaren, who were awesome.

I actually enjoyed this show, not as bad as some people are making out. Better than sid and nancy. I feel like people are jus hating just for the sake of it. I thought the performances on stage was amazing, the actors actually playing the instruments and singing instead of miming makes the show feel authentic and real. Sure the show has some problems, it's not a perfect show, some things seemed rushed and glossed over especially the finale which i had a problem with but overrall it's a very enjoyable show, not awful by any means. It's entertaining. I like that they did not shy away with the swastika symbols also. I wish they stretched it a little bit tho. At least three or four more episodes would have been better and covered everything better.

Not even remotely close.....not to mention none of what they said in the trailer was never even said by any of the band or Jordon or Vivian Westwood. As a person unfortunately born as a millennial but whose life was changed as a teenager by the sex pistols, when I went into binge watching this, I had to prepare myself to Haidet just in case Johnny was right. He was the complete opposite of right. I said there with my eyes glued to the screen for 6 1/2 hours blown away by every shot in every line and every moment that had the old 15 year old Punkin me jumping for NRK joy during the concert scenes and catching little moments from the sex pistols folklore that only could’ve come from the band members own accounts instead of fifth hand accounts from journalists. The guy who played Joni rotten while he took a good 10 seconds of warming up too, he captured everything that we loved dearly about AND were scared shitless about Johnny Rotten to this day. The guy who plays Glenn does a good job at a train a guy who is kind of a snobby prick but he’s not that bad of a guy after all, Cookie is the great ride or die at the end of the day, and it’s terrifying how much better the kid who played Sid was in this then Gary Oldman was in Sid and Nancy, and Nancy by the way, after all the stories I had heard, The mirror site of her as a character made me sick to my stomach when she came on screen. And I don’t say that to put the actress down, because that means she played Nancy the right damn way; a sickening dreadful girl. And the music is great too! We gotta give it to the actors for actually putting the Time in to learn their instruments and learn to play as a band to at least reenact even just a smidgen of what it would’ve been like. Forgive me for rambling, I’m just a really pleased pistols fan, and the more Johnny rotten hates it, the better it’s gonna age, as well as the drama they keeps em suing because of it just keeps adding pages to the Sex Pistols story.

I grew up watching the Sex Pistols notoriety grow, and I know the band members' personalities quite well from the countless interviews I was fascinated by. This bio-series captures it all PERFECTLY, in my opinion...couldnt be better. The actors are phenomenal, especially Sid & Malcolm. Bt they all are spot-on. Love the emphasis on the Chrissy Hynde relationship, and the heart-t-heart Jones and Rotten have at the end (which was made-up for the film, but perfect in summary)

One of the many things that make the Pistols so interesting was the volatility of relationships within the band while also being a tight unit provoking the Establishment. Another key factor were Vivienne's brilliant clothes which they interchanged, there was a high art concept overlaid on them, the same but different as Roxy Music, Bowie and even the Clash who came into their own later. Great band, great times, sadly gone.

Not really, the American tour looked way too hostile, I’ve seen the Longhorn Ballroom show several times and it was nowhere near as violent as portrayed in the TV show. It was a pretty fun series. A little bit cheesy, but these things usually are and obvious artistic license to dramatise things and change the story where it suits, but that’s nothing new. Loved it! Loved it!! Binged watch it and as a Pistols fan will watch it again and again. Biopics in essence are phony by nature, but this one is done so well, it's full of the spirit of rebellious youth and feels raw and real. "Pistol" will endure, it's an excellent telling of their tale with great attention to details, and very entertaining. Yes, facts were dramatized, and artistic license was taken, but done with great creativity. Episode 2- "Rotten" and 3-"Bodies" were my favorites but loved it all. Excellent acting, each actor was superb, the voices and accents believable. Boyle's decision to have the actors perform the music live was a smart choice. The dynamic cinematography, graphics, recreation of concerts and scenery was brilliant. Well done, cast and crew - the haters and critics sound like boring old farts. Give it a chance, it's a blast!

Apparently Glenn Matlock told Jones when asked what he thought about the series and said Jones had a "lousy memory" so that tells you it isn't very accurate. Didn't like the whole Jones and Chrissy Hynde love story like it was some Disney romance. In the series they make a big deal of Glenn being sacked and he says he walked and that never happened. Made for those that think Bohemian rhapsody was good when that was totally inaccurate as well.

The series was not meant to be downright 'historically accurate' or another Sex Pistols biopic/documentary, but an adaptation of Steve Jones' biography which, if you read it, you'll see that the series did in fact a great job of staying true to. Now the thing is, a biography is the story of the person who writes it, the way he remembers it, so whoever doesn't like it can go out and write their own, as 45 years down the line I'm pretty sure everyone will remember everything just a little different from everyone else.

ok I don't think it was THAT bad. The thing is, Danny Boyle could've done something great and he rather did something fun but forgettable. Also, I hate that some of the stories didn't happen to Steve, but to Sid and John and they were given to Steve to make him more interesting

I see these scenes and it seems to be a good biopic of the Sex Pistols, at first I thought that the series was going to be half bad. And another thing: for me the actor who plays Glen Matlock in this series is more like Steve Diggle (guitarist of The Buzzcocks) than Glen 😅😅😅 but the series and the performances of the actors are very good 🤗🤗🤗

*LOVED* this series, i keep rewatching it over and over cuz i'm just so pleased with how many facts they got right and didnt give in to the hollywood gossip, they kept the facts and acted it out. finally someone worthy portraying sid and nancy, and not going with the most famous theory that he killed her cuz ion believe he did i think she either did it herself in a desperate manner to get his attention or the dealer did, not sid. loved how they kept the clothing as real as possible too unlike in the '86 movie where they removed anything offensive, here they made it all raw real. perfect casting for malcom aswell, perfect all around truly.

Not really. Most of the reviews are about how Rotten's portrait is the most interesting and entertaining aspect of the series. Love Steve, but his persona was kinda bland. Also Chrissie never asked him to get married. It only happened to Sid and John, but they added Steve, since it was his aeries

In music history its the 'small but essential differences' that means you can turn out to be the Rolling Stones or the Pretty Things....or the Doctors of Madness or The Damned .......& if the actual Sex Pistols looked or sounded like the fictional versions here they would have been supporting Slaughter & the Dogs or the Vibrators at the Marquee....

Cannot stand biopics purely because of the fact that directors invent scenes for dramatic purposes - the camera wasn't on Steve Jones when he started abusing Grundy so why invent that footage? Oliver Stone did the same thing with The Doors when he showed Jim Morrison coming right up to the camera during Light my Fire which never happened.

Just because they invent scenes for dramatic purposes that does not mean that it is terrible. Get over it.
