She really was. A lovely lady who also was a wonderful actress. How sad she was suffering from terminal cancer while appearing in this one season TV sitcom. Sadly, she''s looking gaunt & thin here. Poor soul. Only 51 when she passed! 😞

A comical spin about the old west. Pistols and Petticoats, what an awesome name for a tv series. This show had so much potential. It’s a shame the show wasn’t picked up for a second season with another actress.. It’s obvious Ann is gravely ill. She carried on like a trouper tho until she couldn’t.

As a TV history buff, I've known of this series for years but have never seen a single episode or clip from it. I'll delve into these soon. I know it was short-lived. Many of these failed 60's sitcoms now seem too exaggerated in their premise or plot-execution, the characters too silly, often just plain too unrealistically stupid, overbearing laugh-tracks, etc. I'll give this one a shot, though, after knowing of its existence for years!

Ann was slowly dying of esophageal cancer. She passed away on January 21, 1967. Her death made it virtually impossible to continue the series for a second season (she only appeared in 21 of the 26 episodes filmed).

Maybe you're misremembering it? the actor who played Grandpa Hanks lived well into the 1990s and appeared in all filmed episodes, but Ann Sheridan herself was nearing death during the filming of this show - you can see it already in this episode compared to how she looks in the opening theme music scenes. This was episode 7, she filmed 12 more (so we can assume 12 more weeks) the last episode (episode 19) aired the day she died. She really gave it her all in a "the show must go on" tradition. She was the heart of the show and the only big name, so they cancelled. Can't find any ratings information for this show. I don't remember it being a big hit. She was an A-list Warner Bros. star who starred multiple times opposite (and often with top billing) Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, George Raft, John Garfield and the Dead End Kids (see a theme here?). Not sure why she isn't better remembered today, her movies have held up very well. King's Row is remembered today as Ronald Reagan's best film, but actually it was Ann Sheridan who had top billing there.
