Piston Stuck Inside a Hydraulic Cylinder Barrel ? Try This Hack !

Sometimes, the Piston Nut at the end of a chromed rod will come loose and fully detach. This is what we fitted onto the end of a quite large long and heavy Hydraulic Rod to centralise it and allow us to easily screw the rod back into the piston nut enough to extract it.

Got any recommendations for those near impossible piston lock nuts (tool wise?) Applied tone of heat and socket and wrench just keeps slipping off and not budging the nut

Have you checked that there are no Grub screws or Locking pins? If it is a combination piston and nut, We have found locking pins under the piston's wear bands and have also found up to two grub screws as well as ball bearings under the grub screws. Some manufacturers will use chemical thread lockers like Loctite and depending on the size of the nut they will be very tight. for example a nut with a 1-inch thread will be done up with a torque of up to 960 lb-ft a nut with a 2-inch thread will be done up with a torque of up to 4,200 lb-ft a nut with a 3-inch thread will be done up to a torque of up to 14,300 lb-ft Try mounting the rod back into the machine and use a large pipe wrench with a long pipe slipped over the pipe wrench for more leverage. @@Hydraulic.Online cheers yeah all grub screws been removed nothing hidden under guide rings. I was hanging of 1metre shift and bit of pipe and still no go with the extensive heat. We have a nut buster but I’m 1st apprentice haven’t been shown it. The nut is close to 2 1/2 inch haven’t got socket. Thanks for info
