Per CBS News and Weatherford College coach Jeff Lightfoot, pitcher Owen Woodward is "no longer on the team" after he absolutely decked North Central Texas College's first baseman, Josh Phillips, as he was rounding third base after a go-ahead two-run home run. Woodward's uncalled-for attack led to the dugouts clearing and a scuffle ensuing with multiple suspensions dolled out between the two teams. Rick Strom breaks it down. Give us your thoughts in the comments below!

Emotional maturity of a 5 year old. Most of us who played pickup basketball or football in grade school often had to deal with a kid who either resorted to randomly punching a guy in the stomach, crying, or just played dirty because he hadn't learned to properly deal with his emotions. Here it is in college. Goodness knows how many times he's done something like this over the years.

That is felony assault. All higher level learning institutions need to be investigated for incidences like this one. The entire sports departments in every school need to take serious steps to totally ban this kind of behavior. My understanding is that sports is about civilized competition. Not having any previous incidents is exactly the same as saying. Well no one’s reported him before. He’s probably messed up plenty of times before but they were minor enough for the coach to overlook or cover for him. He’s probably always been angry and volatile when he competes. Behavior like this is learned. You don’t just suddenly become super violent because your pitch got crushed. At least not without a brain injury.

As usual with TYT, they don't give you the whole story. Their "reporter" did the bare minimum of investigation. Ask yourself, "Why did the sports governing authority suspend the hitter for two days and the pitcher for four days?" Maybe that doesn't make much sense to you. So now you have two choices... 1: Be an arrogant Dunning Kruger poster child and assume you are an expert based on a video or... 2: Have some humility and assume that maybe the experts who actually investigated the incident know something you don't. If you think this pitcher rushed the player simply because he hit a homer, you are a moron.

2 things... 1) If things don't work for that pitcher in baseball he probably just got himself a football scholarship. 2) That is how a conference should handle all fights in baseball. Too many times the umpires and the conference sugar foot around and only eject/suspend a couple of players from each side when the rules call for anyone leaving the dugout/bullpen or their position to take part in a fight are REQUIRED to be ejected so basically every time a fight occurs everyone from both sides are ejected and the game is a forfeit. That is what should happen every single time there is a fight in baseball because when you start hitting teams where it hurts and hang losses on them through forfeits the fighting will stop.

Listened to the end and learned that the pitcher received a 4 game suspension, the batter received a 2 game suspension for taunting. The team that was attacked then received notice that all players and coaches that came onto the field would be suspended for 2 games. The batters team will need to forfeit those games. Sticking up for your teammate that was criminally attacked will be punished 2 games for standing up for their teammate. Nothing about this story is right. Once you physically attack a player that player should be removed period and face discipline. Penalizing the opposing team 2 games for standing up for their teammate is crazy.

Get that thug out off the team, out of the league and out of baseball. Also, how do you suspend the batter for hitting a homer because that is what he is supposed to do at bat. The pitcher threw a meatball over the plate and the batter made him pay for it by knocking it out of the park. What the league did was bullshit because they don't want to hold the pitcher accountable for action because in suspending the batter, they are justifying his action by say that the batter was taunting him which lead to the pitcher tackling the batter on the third base line. All of this happen because the pitcher threw a meatball over the plate and the batter made him pay for it.

So, after tackling an opposing player, Weatherford gets 2 free wins because NCTC players ran onto the field when the runner was tackled in the middle of a game? Both teams forfeit this game, Weatherford gets the two for free, and then there's one game left in the series. It almost sounds like Weatherford sacrificed a pitcher for two free wins.

No excuse for that kind of behavior. The game should have been forfeit for the attacking players team. The attacking player should have been kicked off the team and been expelled from college and had assault charges filed against him.

Indeed, thank god the batter just turned his head in time an was at least able to prepare himself a little bit for the impact. If he got completely blindsided, this could've ended in some serious injuries.

This all around is one of the worst calls ever, he just hit a home run, he’s entitled to a little bit of cheering within the rules. Pitcher just got mad and made a mistake and the league punishes the team for defending their player. Mind blowing how NCTC is the team being suspended and not the other team for having an unruly player commit assault.

I don't get why this is not considered battery. Why do sports get a pass when someone attacks another? Shouldn't the law be involved? I think so. If I was playing a pick up game with some locals and I did that wouldn't I be arrested? So why do schools get looked over. Its fucking disgusting.

There sure a lot of comments like yours from guys who are giving a knee jerk reaction. Truth is, the runner got his comeuppance. Kinda like a pitcher who throws too many brush offs too close. The runners problem was that he was giving a low five to the third base coach instead of watching what was happening on the field. It would be like a pitcher who throws at a batter and then turns his back. Charging a pitcher or charging a runner who is taunting is perfectly acceptable in baseball.

Wrong. Actions have consequences. Just because the pitcher broke the rules in a more flagrant, even criminal, manner doesn’t mean the batter is forgiven his rule breaking. I’d say the fact everyone is ready to be so wildly one sided is the real problem… This wasn’t balanced reporting. All the information was not given. And here everyone is, ready to join in the crusade based on their immediate emotional response.

The one where he exchanged words with a previous pitcher and the umpirs gave him a warning. The one where he told this pitcher to F___ Off even as the ump was pointing and yelling at him not to. Any every player or coach that left their position to join the altercation also broke league rules and got two game suspensions. This report left all that information out though and just focused on the flagrant actions of the pitcher as if there was no backstory or build up.

Automatic espulsion for the student. There is no way that behavior fits with ANY code of conduct on any campus in America. A suspension from a few games is ridiculous. If I were the batter's parents I would be suing the entire college for so much money... And pushing the son to press criminal charges.
