Great audio! I just listened to a couple of live versions of this song, and this one sounds the most like their studio version. I do like how the bass is cutting through the mix on this one...it's a great groove. A little sad not having Mary on stage tho...her vocals added a certain charm to this song .

Funny story, I saw Add N to X open for Jon Spencer Blues Explosion in San Diego, during the break I was out front of the venue chatting with this dude, he asked how did the opening band sound I said it sounded like Devo and AIR with Stereolab's drummer, I never heard or saw them before. The dude said "I am Stereolab's drummer" I had no idea I was talking to Andy Ramsey.

the groove and the songwriting is still there but they are missing another female voice with the style that Mary had to deliver the vocal harmonic hooks which were always a major part of this band's appeal
@ChiefFalque4 жыл бұрын
I doubt they want to find anyone to fill that role. Pretty sure Mary's death is the number one reason they stopped working properly in the first place.
@threedeemelodies4 жыл бұрын
ChiefFalque well- it’s certainly why their sound changed. i don’t think their sound ever “stopped” working, but the band dynamic became tiring, as laetitia described in an interview with new york times

They were a totally different band in Phoenix, were I saw them on a wonderful sold out night at a fabulous venue near the AZ state University, both women, and the band dressed hip. They played continuously for several hours without stopping and we danced and danced without a break too !! They played heavy , heavy, and smooth, cool up and down and all around , to be sure, they played as heavy as " Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" by Pink Floyd!! for real, there is nothing on any recording like what they played, and they loved it, I wonder how much the management / industry stomped on them hard to be a lounge act only...... the nothing anywhere like what they did that night. The crowd was all ages and all colors. I went out back after to cool off and they all came out to chill, except Laetitia, she was very angry for some unknown reason..... touring .. ? .... anyway I wish that .... somewhere, somewhere, somewhere there is a recording of the their heavy stuff and a LIVE Stereolab is finallly showcased... they could have been much more well known, I started following floyd in 68 when they were not known n the US . Laetitia’s live vocal delivery has improved SO much, her intonation is far better, and the new bass player is excellent, BUT - that trash piece of a digital synth!!! It just sounds horrible. This is STEREOLAB. You can’t convince me that Tim Gane does not hear the difference or does not care. Moog Inc would GIVE them a free touring new-production Mini Moog. This is the band that CAUSED analog synths to matter again. The proof is in the hearing. I wish they would tour with real gear.
